"USA Boxing appreciates AIBA's continuing efforts toward the evolution of international boxing, and we recognize that the admission of professional boxers is an inevitable development. However, USA Boxing's Olympic selection procedures, on which our amateur athletes have relied for the past two years, preclude us from making the last-minute changes that would be required to invite professionals to compete," USA Boxing said in a statement. "We believe that many other countries face similar difficulties, and in fairness to our athletes who have already been selected to fulfill their Olympic dreams, we abstained from voting for the proposed change of the eligibility rules."
I think that's the right call, I read the other day Beterbiev is willing to go to the Olympics, for either Russia or Canada if he was allowed, hopefully he doesn't take that path though.
Not the Supreme Courts call.
Of course it is, anything can be challenged in court and this blatant discrimination.
If a pro wants to try out for The Olympics he has every right to.
It's no different to them coming out and saying we won't be selecting any black fighters for the Olympic team this year.
Ne?
not being able to fight pro might have something to do with it :lol1:
A lot of people are LOOKING for you. I have NO CLUE, why. But, I read a thread dedicated to, "New England" and....apparently you capture the sentiments of a good many..
USA!!! USA!!! Greatest nation in this universe
:usa2:
I don't mean to brag, i don't mean to boast but we like hot butter on the breakfast toast!
USA!!!:unitedsta:unitedsta
All time great post. Green k sent to the both of yous
I don't like pros fighting amateurs and apparently most pro boxers have no desire to compete in the Olympics. Khan is the only pro boxer I have heard of so far who wants to compete in the Olympics.
That would be the best to see Khan KO'd by a 17yo.
Cuba and ex-Soviet countries are the grossest violator. Something about communism breeds 30+ year olds fighting in the Olympics.
The UK also had two 24 year olds medalist
No they don't, they select who they send to the Olympics. Only 1 fighter per weight division.
do you mean a pro wanting to try out for the usa boxing team will be automatically denied?
thats true..and then these countries dance when some 34 year old fart gets a gold medal over a 21 year old kid LOL
Already lining up excuses if team USA comes back from Rio with zero medals? LOL

This helps, as does the WBC & IBF taking a stance of dropping any fighter from their ratings who compete vs amateurs.
Still, if you're Rigo, do you go back?

I thought there are trials ?
They can't keep an eligible guy out based on Him being a pro, it's discrimination.
What if they picked only white guys ?
I doubt any pro would want to go anyway but still.

They don't get paid well as a pro, so why turn pro. Either emigrate to America to earn $$$ or stay at home as an am.
