Eddie Hearn and Kell Brook's plan to beat Jessie Vargas, and vacate the IBF Title to duck Errol Spence Jr. are looking to fail miserably.
As you are all probably aware, when Spence annihilates Ponomarev, he will become the mandatory challenger for Kell Brook.
Moreover, with Errol Spence now #3 in the WBO Welterweight Rankings, and Timothy Bradley not able to fight for the mandatory positioning WBO International Title after losing his chance against Pacquiao...
Errol Spence Jr vs Ponomarev will be for the vacant WBO International Title, with Ponomarev rated at number 5, aswell as the final eliminator for the IBF Title.
Either way, Uncle Al has moved Spence and Ponomarev up the WBO Rankings....
The winner of Brook vs Vargas, must put both their titles on the line against the winner of Spence v Ponomarev or get stripped of both!
Al Haymon basically has the market cornered
He has Garcia and Khan for the WBC
Thurman and Porter
and Spence coming for the WBO and IBF
This is why i said Brook should sign with Haymon, more options, more doors, even if he lost, he'd walk into another fight.
Hayman will pay a pretty penny for Vargas vs DSG fight, mark my words when Vargas wins, he will also gather a Mexican following. Although I give Khan credit for moving up, I think he lost what lil American appeal he had. I might be going out on a limb here but I think Vargas vs DSG would be PBC's first PPV in association with Top Rank of course. It would be a 3 title unification between to prime Americans of 2 different Latino (hate that word) cultures. East vs West coast etc. It has Vegas prize fight written all over it, Velez vs Santa Cruz on the undercard and Id by it in a heart beat.
Khan is mandatory for the WBC. There is 0 chance that Al Haymon puts in Khan with Spence. Khan is yet to lose a single round against a southpaw. He won all rounds against McCloskey, Judah, Collazo and Alexander. Spence is a favourite v Khan, but is too high risk for low reward.
DSG will be stupid to fight Vargas for pennies, when he can fight Khan for a career high purse.

When Vargas wins he is getting DSG next. Unification's>>>Mandatories.
