What do you guys think?
Frank Warren has confirmed that an offer has been made for Canelo Alvarez to fight Liam Smith.
Speaking with Kugan Cassius, the promoter admitted the offer to fight the flame haired Mexican was being considered.
“We’re contemplating an offer from Alvarez. We’re looking at that, we’ll think about it and see where we go.”
Canelo
No specific details were given but Warren continued “We’ll see, I’m not going to get in too much detail – It’s a big fight for Liam and there’s other big fights out there for him. We’re looking at it.”
Smith successfully defended his WBO World Super-Welterweight crown in style on our December show and has made it clear he wants to fight the big names.
Canelo, who recently captured the WBC World Middleweight Title is rumoured to be seeking a catchweight bout below the 160 lbs limit or at 154 lbs before his mandated super-fight with Gennady Golovkin later this year.
Head of Golden Boy Promotions Oscar De La Hoya has previously confirmed Canelo will box on the most coveted Mexican Bank Holiday dates in May and September this year.
Speaking with ESPN Deportes, De La Hoya revealed "There are many possible opponents. We will talk and decide whether to fight at 160 or 154 pounds."
The potential mouth-watering fight would open a huge door for ‘Beefy’ to gain U.S exposure and victory would set up some blockbuster bouts on both sides of the pond.

True, but I'm curious what everyone opinion about the fight? or Canelo fighting at JR MW
It would have been a great fight if it had happened but Canelo's experience and size advantage would have been too much for Liam.
I don't think Canelo can make 154 any longer. Last time he tried, against Angulo, he missed the weight and has been fighting at 155 ever since.
Please explain
What needs to be explained??? who the hell is Liam Smith and who asked for this fight? Smith has beaten no one worth a damn, is not a middleweight nor even a top 5 fighter at 154
This is old news. That offer was made back in Jan. Canelo was looking to defend his MW title against Smith.

I'm fine with it if it means Canelo is going to try and unify the 154lbs division. After Smith, he fights the winner of Charlo/Williams for the IBF, then goes after the WBC & WBA, then goes up to fight GGG.
So he staying at 154?
He'll be fighting top competition on his natural weight, personally if he's is fight all the top fighters, I'm okay with it.

Again, everyone re-hydrates up, not valid point. If Canelo can still make 154 (I think it will be hard on him, but that's his problem) I don't see why not fight all the top 154 and be the top player in that division.
The thing is, he won't fight those top guys unless they give up something critical to their performance. Check this man's resume...he only gets in the ring with people he has to blow up, haven't stayed in shape, or way past their prime. Trout, Lara, and Mayweather were legit and WE ALL KNOW how those fights went. The rest of his resume is sh1t. He won't fight the "top" nothing. Fans need to see him for what he is.
Stop buying into the hype.
LOL...Instead fighting real competition, he does what he's been doing his whole career. Strategically take an easy fight, take no risk. Balloon up to almost a light heavyweight, win, then be called a good to great fighter. LOL...fans.
And of course he'd fight a Charlo, they're inexperienced and all he (canelo) has to do is survive 12 rounds to get his gift.

"We will not be dictated to, I will fight GGG and I will beat him" immediately send offer to another fighter lol...
Is this enough evidence to all the bidness men here to see Canelo ducked GGG or do you need more clear cut evidence?
They will need more proof. Lol...he already told us what kind of fighter he is by fighting all these guys at 155lbs.
It be for a title, since a lot of fans here care about titles, then fight all top fighter. I think that's a good plan.
One of the Charlo twins was calling out Canelo on saturday.

It's underwhelming.
I read an interview from Macklin the other day when he says he had been contacted by Canelo's people before hanging up his gloves. Again underwhelming, especially if dropping weight was a factor.
Out of all the 154 champions Beefy is the least known and most untested. We saw the top 154 fighters this weekend. I'd pick any of them, except Jackson over Beefy right now. If Canelo is moving back down to 154 the Lara fight is the biggest fight to make in that division. Fighting Beefy is not only a clear duck to Golovkin, it's also a clear duck to Lara. There is no reason Canelo should be taking tune up fights at 154
The diva has not made 154 in several years now. He will get Smith to agree to 155 and then he will have his functional 10-15 pound weight advantage come fight night.
Clear duck of GGG.......pathetic!
If he is to fight at 154, I can't see how a year or 2 more of cutting that kind of weight won't be harmful in the future. It's obvious that last lb is hard to cut and constantly rehydrating 17-20 lbs is a sign your body is having to lose too much.
