in the event of a positive test it's standard protocol for a postponement to be settled. let alone in a case where it's a clear case of contamination. 70 nanograms is not nearly enough to alter peorformance in the ring. is wilder just being a coward and having second thoughts? yes i understand that the WBC stopped the fight but its been 100% the WILDER camp that said the fight is OFF entirely! its all team wilder cancelling....why?
There are right to cancel the fight and sue the Promoter and Povtekin and WBC perfectly legal grounds to do so.
You not from a legal background so wont understand, but a contract was sign and now invalid due to drug taking simple really
Exactly! A contract was signed, you got caught cheating the contract becomes null & void. Can someone ple tell me who has Povetkin beaten? Who has he fought besides Klitchgo (which was a horrible performance)?

He doesn't want to fight a an opponent that cheats.
The problem for Povetkin is that he tested clean 3 times in April and then tested positive at the end of the month - it suggested recent usage.
This was at the end of April and we are only finding out about this now. So there was a period there when things were being kept under wraps and the parties were presumably going back and forth as to what was going on with the levels in Povetkin's sample. IDK, the fact this dragged on for so long suggest that Wilder wanted to believe the story that these levels were holdovers from past usage. He wanted to go on, but upon further examination of the previous clean tests in April, consultations with PED experts, etc....it's clear to see that it's highly unlikely a positive sample would occur out of thin air.
Maybe there is an explanation as to why Meldonium might not show up on a given test and then show up on another, I just haven't heard one yet and I'm sure Team Wilder never heard one either.

Those in team Wilder are free to do whatever they want to do...
It's a bit strange how quickly they flew home and started saying the fight was off and they wanted their money. The fact is, this case is under investigation with the outcome still to be determined. The WBC will have to get the scientific evidence and prove that he took meldonium after Jan 1st to call this fight off. If Povetkin can prove he hasn't used after that date and just had traces in his system 5/6 months later (which is likely after reading about the drug and what the manufacturer has said) then it will be a postponement and the fight goes on.
They have already gave passes to other athletes testing positive, Sharapova's hearing is in London today I believe? I could be wrong but it will be interesting to see what precedent they set with her case...
Still doesn't sit well with me knowing these people are using PED's whether they are "legal" or not. I was going with Povetkin but I hope the fight goes ahead ext couple months and Wilder decapitates him
Peterson failed the B sample before it was announced and called off.
A test isn't offical until the B sample is tested or the athlete asked for no B test.
He would have done the chicken dance for it more like
Povetkin is a slow walking fat body. There's a reason why he was cheating. He knew he had no chance in hell against Wilder. Now you can try and spin it against Wilder but it's not working.
No the 'postponement' is only to give the sanctioning body time to investigate the issue, if the investigation confirms that the guy really is juicing, then fight gets cancelled.
Wilder's team already believed Povetkin was juicing so there is no doubt in their minds that the investigation will yield positive results and Povetkin will get banned along with the fight getting cancelled.
Holy ****, I was beginning to think NSB would never get any story correct.
Finally, someone posts something accurate enough.
This is the truth. If Povetkin is found innocent--- that he took the Meldonium only at a date prior to January 1st, Wilder and Team are going to be susceptible to a lawsuit for canceling the fight/breach of contract, I'm assuming.
An important piece of information that could help this go Povetkin's way is whether or not the testing Povetkin passed in early April was blood or urine based. If it was blood, it means Povetkin has a chance at being innocent (go research the differences and uses of blood vs urine testing). Now of course, even if it was a blood test, it still doesn't mean he can't be guilty. He could have very well taken the Meldonium after said passed tests (which would be ****ing retarded).
Either way, give it time and let the WADA figure the entire truth.
YES, they have to investigate the scenario because of what I said above. Meldonium is said to remain the in body for 6 months. Hence, why it isn't an open and close shut kind of case.
^^^100% truth^^^ wilder never wanted the fight. He's breathing a sigh of relief
He definitely wanted his 5 mil and would've walked through Povetkin to get it.
isn't it standard protocol to postpone a fight if someone tests positive or gets injured???
or if USADA/Haymon where involved in it to just continue on with the fight anyway like nothing happened?

The amount of meldonium Povetkin tested for is legal under the most recent WADA revision to meldonium testing.
In other words, unless Povetkin's levels magically increase by 100x or someone spikes his koolaid, the fight is still on.
Wilder is flat out refusing to fight and blaming it on VADA. They said no such thing. He has no legs to stand on.

They're pissed that the fight is not happening this Saturday, understandably. Plus Wilder wasn't so sure he could beat Povetkin after all, so this is a convenient way out. Wilder is being ambiguous in his statements now too as to whether he still wants it or not. If this is the case, both fighters can just move on I suppose and they can settle the other stuff in court. The fans lose.
Standard protocol lol wtf. Khan Peterson didn't happen. Berto Ortiz didn't happen til 5 yrs later.
those are two minor tiny fights that hardly anyone care about!
this is the largest HEAVYWEIGHT fight in the last few years of boxing/
this fight was huge man,
Protocol for a failed drug test should be a minimum 18-24 month suspension.
Why would anyone want to see a drug cheat rewarded with a world title shot?
