I thought it would be a little closer.. But i guess thats about right.. Canelos punches wont bother GGG nearly as much as GGGs punches will bother Canelo.. Then GGG has the bettwr jab as well. I understand why Canelo or Oscar doesnt want to fight him
GGG is familiar with Canelo...I'm not sure he gives the counter-punching Mexican the same sort of jab-heavy respect that was given to power punching Lemieux and Stevens. Those two come in trying to come forward and take your head off. Canelo, no.
I think in the end a decision either way will be the best bet. With the Canelo judges anything is possible. Mayweather may have won 11 rounds to 1 against Canelo and he still only got a majority decision.
Canelo is far and away the best fight GGG has faced. Canelo's defense is good enough, his power is good enough, that I actually expect GGG to box Canelo like he did Lemieux.
I'm sure a decision will get better than even odds.
As far as best GGG has faced... I don't think Canelo would fare well against Martin Murray at all.
At 160 GGG destroys him unless the fight takes place after 2017.
I agree.
GGG is at the tail end of his prime, if he isn't past it already.. Canelo is just entering prime, so GBP will obviously try to delay as much as possible.
As it stands now, I think GGG's experience(am & pro)/Ring IQ/Boxing Skills/etc. will make the difference. Say what you will about his resume but you don't fight THAT many fights without learning a thing or 2..
A year or 2 later? Who knows? Dude is getting old.
So beating up Rubio scraps proves something
Well.. how he did it proved that he is more than just power, more than just the "one-dimensional brawler" many said he was. He showcased some fine Boxing skills in there. Similar to Kovalev vs BHop but a bit more impressive considering the age differences. Lemule was no push over that night either, Rubio didn't exactly "ruin" him.
Is GGG's stamina all that good? I recall him getting a lil winded vs Monroe who was making him miss (although not as much as I'm sure Monroe would have liked him to miss lol). I need to go watch some longer GGG fights I guess.
With all the missing I'm expecting GGG to be doing in this fight vs his typical fight I think there is some competition with stamina's. Although I doubt stamina decides the fight.
Golovkin has a tendency of lulling somewhere around the 6th or 7th, and then immediately picking back up again. And he does fight for all 3 minutes. He looked plenty fresh after 11 rounds beating up Martin Murray. Sometimes people think he's winded because he always takes long, deep breaths in between rounds, but that's something he always does.
He definitely has better stamina than Alvarez, and his relentless pressure on someone who isn't the best mover in the world and doesn't like to throw a lot is going to make a huge difference. This might be a more skilled version of Margarito/Cotto 1, where the more skilled fighter couldn't hold off someone who was in his face every minute of every round and eventually gets worn down.
Might be overrating GGG just a tad? Canelo will by far be his toughest opponent. Canelo has also fought the tougher opposition. This will be GGG first fight on a major stage. Odds should be closer.
This is the reason why I wanted to see GGG in with some real top level guys before the Canelo fight was made. Hard to know if we're overrating the guy based on the competition he's been in with.
As the odds stand, I'd bet GGG by KO with Canelo by decision and let it ride.
Def worth a flutter on Canelo, especially if its in Vegas. If he gets knocked out I assume they'll just ring the bell to end the round and wait til he wakes up. Canelo UD after 2 hours.
:lol1: :lol1: :lol1:

Agreed.
Even with Canelo's "experience" he will still come up short against GGG. I actually think GGG has MUCH better boxing skills and Ring IQ than Canelo.
We've seen what GGG is capable of vs LeMule, we have yet to see anything close to that level from Canelo. He could probably school Canelo using mostly just his jab. How many fights has this man been in (am & pro)? Still never even been knocked down.
Only advantage Canelo has is Youth, which allows him to drain so much.. but he can't keep it up forever and is likely already struggling.. but who knows? maybe cutting the 155 BS would actually benefit him at this point.

Canelo got some skills. I am disappointed how he acting but sorry he does. His speed and countering is impressive.
Even if he manages to stay upright, I just don't know if he's busy enough to win (legitimately).
I also don't see him knocking Golovkin unKhancious, with a single punch.
Alvarez will not win this fight unless he displays much better stamina than he ever has. He can make Golovkin miss, he can counter him, he can move, he can land great shots, but he has never shown he can do so consistently for 3 minutes of a round.
Golovkin will make him pay for that above all else.
I agree, funny thing is coming in at 160 would do him better in the stamina department.
That's a nice line. GGG being the favorite doesn't surprise anyone. I think people get confused and think lines are set depending on who will win. If that were the case the Khan-Canelo line would've been a lot wider. Lines are set to make sure the bookies don't lose a lot of money. They knew a lot of money would be coming in on Khan. So they set the line so that if something crazy did happen they wouldn't lose their shirts.
Floyd was -240 against Hatton and -700 against Cotto. Is Hatton a better fighter than Cotto? No. Hatton was also coming up in weight. Against Cotto, Floyd was moving up in weight. Hatton's line was closer because of his fanbase. Those Brits love to bet & Hatton's base was huge. The bookies had to make it close just in case something crazy happened and Floyd lost.
A breath of fresh air. This guy gets it.
Also, that's going to put Canelo somewhere in the neighborhood of like +500 to win by decision. And we all know if Canelo stays upright, he has a chance to win on the cards, regardless of how the fight plays out.
yup lol if this is in texas especially im betting canelo all day
Doesn't surprise me too much.
A lot of fans on this site try to make Canelo out to be this boxing, counter-punching wizard and the most skilled fighter in boxing ever since Floyd retired.
Once GGG knocks him out, people will just bring up Ward again and Canelo will go back to feasting on 140/147 guys. I'm sure Bradley, Ruslan, and Matthysse are getting primed as Canelo's next opponents.
Agreed.

That's an attractive price for Canelo. I think Dwyer will be picking Canelo by KO with the decision as a hedge.
I think he'll go Golovkin straight with Canelo by KO, because his logic is almost always flawed.
I assume they'll turn all the TV cameras 90º so it looks like Canelo is upright and GGG rolling around on the floor. Canelo by KO, place your bets!
hahahahahahahahahahaha that was a good one!
