This was never reported or verified by a trustable source. I personally bought the PPV 3 times and convinced others to buy it too.
The real number is not 97k. GGG is a super star selling out arena's on his name alone.
97,000 is not the real figure. Glaser left out .Y.'s buys. It's actually 97,003.
This was hysterical. I wonder if this is what happened across the board.
Kafkod purchased is 3 times, One Punch 4 times, Golovkin probably rented 6 TV's and cable boxes and ordered it twice on each one.
97k ppv's sold to 25k people.
On a serious note-BromethusBob is good dude but dead wrong. Glaser was the source for PPV totals as long as he said Floyd sold less than reported.
Do you have a source? Or maybe they just took his numbers without questioning them.
Per Mark Taffet at @hboboxing Canelo-Cotto fight did 900k on PPV. I had heard from numerous folks 625-650, but he's putting his name on it— Kevin Iole (@KevinI) December 3, 2015
@tooezzzy Prior to today, Iole, myself, and others all heard from independent sources between 600-700K. I think that's more likely.— FIGHTHYPE.COM (@fighthype) December 3, 2015
Mark Taffet reveals #CaneloCotto PPV numbers (Taffet says 900,000; Espinoza says 725,000) https://t.co/oPkTlSkmxK #boxing .@Canelo— Douglass Fischer (@dougiefischer) December 3, 2015
Bonus EDIT:
Fat dan attacking Glaser for his GGG numbers. Iole then attacks Fat Dan for being a parrot and not having any independent sources. Rick Glaser is reporting GGG vs Lemeiux did 97K buys. And Cotto vs Canelo did 650K buys. Staying strong that @danrafaelespn is wrong.— Boxing Kingdom (@BoxingKingdom14) December 2, 2015
@danrafaelespn When you have ONE and only one source on that topic and you do nothing but parrot that source, don't crap on others my man— Kevin Iole (@KevinI) December 3, 2015
People buy a PPV 3 times?
Did the person want to be sure that Lil'G won?
I support my fighters. If GGG had a paypal I would just send him money directly. I have asked on twitter.

I don't believe the 150k number was valid either. The fact that K2 went out their way to trumpet the amount of revenue that they made off of merchandise left me with the impression that the actual number was closer to 100k PPV buys than it was to 150k PPV buys.
GGG does have fans. He is starting to gain mainstream coverage on ESPN. I just don't think he's crossed that level to watch him on ppv. It's hard to get there if you aren't Latino especially. It took Mayweather years of HBO exposure to get to PPV. Wasn't his first one Gatti? He had been on HBO for almost 10 years by then.
Yeah totally agree with this.
Kevin Iole, Stephen Espinoza, and even Floyd Hype all came out to support Glaser's Cotto-Canelo numbers despite what HBO said. This new guy at HBO, Peter Nelson, is a liar.

Glaser came up with that number and it somehow unquestioned, mainly by the GGG detractors.
Yet Glaser also claimed that Canelo-Cotto did 600K. When in fact HBO released the numbers to be 900K.
There have been reports ranging from 97 - 150K. I'd say it's probably somewhere in between.

Honestly outside of hardcore boxing fans, who's really heard of GGG? And when I bring up GGG's name up to casuals, the first thing they ask is, "who has he fought"? I have no good answer but to say some top contenders. So yeah I think its possible he did around 100k. I couldnt even find a bar that was showing the fight, and I live in a sizable metropolitan city (San Diego).
P.S. Also the hardcore fans that did know of the fight, also knew it was a predictable outcome so I'm sure some of those opted to stream the fight (As I did) or skip it all together.

Glaser reported the 97k figure but is almost never referenced when discussing buys from other fights. Most posters don't reference Glaser's figures for Canelo-Cotto for instance, which was measurably lower then the reported 900-1m.
When Glaser releases numbers for Mayweather, Canelo, critics be like

When Glaser released the 97k for GGG, same fans try to investigate like

Exactly. they used his numbers for years but all the sudden know they dont believe him

haha.
I'm really curious as to how or why anyone would buy the ppv three times.
