Amir Khan Stands To Pocket 13 Million in Canelo Showdown
Keep in mind the $13M is the guarantee. It says in the article that he could make even more on the back end when everything is said and done. You would have to assume he'd take some of the U.S. PPV money too even though it's not mentioned.
Khan is guaranteed the huge amount with Mexican star Alvarez’s promoters Golden Boy offering up some of the healthy sum.
His stunning pay packet also includes the UK TV money from BoxNation, who beat Sky to land exclusive rights to one of the biggest fights of 2016, as well funds from other promotional activities for the fight.
And Khan, who is in his first world title fight since losing to Danny Garcia in 2012, could end up earning even more on the back of this clash thanks to his own sponsorship deals.
Team Golovkin might seriously want to reconsider their "not going to 155lbs" stance for Canelo. It's clear to me that Canelo won't budge on the weight, so essentially Team GGG will be throwing away 20-30 million for avoiding the fight at that weight. A weight that his team said they'd go down to, to fight Floyd Mayweather (154 lbs).
Keep in mind this fight would likely take place at AT&T Stadium (Cowboys Stadium) which seats over 100,000 people. Because of the compelling matchup, the ticket prices would be at premier prices with an exception for the nosebleeds. I think the PPV would do at least 1.5M - 2M homes at $80 a piece.
If it did 1.5M homes at $80 a piece = $120,000,000.00
And the revenue from the gate would be pretty damn high with it taking place at Cowboys Stadium.
And in case you weren't aware, both Canelo and Golovkin attire sell extremely well at these events. Hats, shirts, headbands and all that stuff brings in another large sum of revenue. I can see them making enough to guarantee GGG at least 12 or 15 million with more coming from back end, including PPV. There's no way Canelo takes 100% of the PPV. So 20 million isn't too far fetched for Golovkin. It's up to him if he wants to test himself or not.
Isn't Khan getting that much because it's a combo from UK tv money?
Yeah pretty much. Canelo is probably getting nothing from the UK revenue stream, so it helps to improve Khan's purse, and to be fair it probably helped De la Hoya in the negotiations as he can justify giving Canelo all the upside from the US ppv sales.
In contrast Floyd Mayweather did the same thing thing when he fought Ricky Hatton, in hindsight it was a huge mistake because the fight generated over a million ppv buys in the UK. But that was obviously a different level of fight and the level of interest was far greater.
Khan has never been featured on PPV prior to this though. GGG has.
And GGG vs Canelo is a much more compelling matchup that will do more buys than the Khan fight. Guaranteed.
Khan has been on ppv multiple times in the UK so I am assuming you are talking about the US, but you should specify either way otherwise you come across ignorant.
This fight will be shown on Boxnation which would have paid a fair chunk to get the fight which Khan will definitely have a cut, and it is a subscription channel not a ppv per say, but it will be a significant amount of money added into the pot for Khan, depending on how many people subscribe and how much Frank Warren bid for the fight in the first place. It also mentions sponsorship, don't know the details of that, but I know a lot of Khan's fortune has come from sponsorship deals especially with Reebok in the early days.
Canelo vs GGG is the biggest fight that can be made right.now....I know alot of people who barely follow boxing who would order that fight.
Yea GGG flopped in last PPV fight. But you cant compare that to a fight with Canelo....Duh
I'm thinking part of why GGG wouldn't get that much (guaranteed) is because they wouldn't need to offer him that much for him to take the fight. It's not nearly the same level of risk.
Exactly! The difference is Khan is set for execution and this is his fee. In the Canelo-GGG match-up it is the other way around ) Therefore don't expect GBP to pay this outrageous amount of money to the fighter who will end their golden goose.
I wonder why that is though? Canelo is the biggest star in boxing now that Floyd is out of the picture. Why was GGG willing to go down to 154 for Floyd (a fight that is utterly unrealistic) instead of going to 155 for Canelo, a fight that essentially everyone is calling to make against a superstar?
You can relax now. The money GBP pays you for posting this crap is well earned.
Not if it goes to a purse bid. The only way Oscar gives up that kind of scratch to GGG is if he comes down to 155. And even then 20 mil seems excessive.
it's truly pathetic the way people here are trying to say a mandatory challenger for a 160 pound title should be forced to fight at a 155 catchweight. The agendas in this place are foul.
Are you retarded? You guys always talking about "Mr. 97k" and all that sh*t but then you come out and say he's set to make 20 million against Canelo? How stupid are you?

The answer is obvious. GGG feels safe draining himself down, for big money, to fight a naturally smaller, older fighter with hand problems AND a non-aggressive style. Canelo on the other hand is the younger, fresher fighter who is about his size and feasts off of aggressive pressure fighters.
TLDR; Floyd couldn't hurt GGG even if he's drained but Canelo can.
Probably not because Amir is bringing that UK money, Golovkin is not bringing that sort of added value to the card even if he probably is more popular in the US.
Golovkin would make like 8 to 10 maybe more if the PPV s a real hit
... ^^^ something like that, I guess...
Don't you understand it doesn't make any difference if GGG agrees to drop to 155 to fight Canelo or not. Oscar is stalling with all the marinating BS. Plain and simple, Oscar doesn't want Canelo in the same ring with GGG for a very long time. He wants Canelo to improve and GGG to get older and past prime. When and if an actual 20 million dollar offer is on the table to fight Canelo at 155 pounds GGG will probably say yes. As of now no such offer has been made. In fact no offer has been made. Oscar keeps saying the GGG-Canelo fight will happen. What Oscar doesn't say is WHEN it will happen. Don't hold your breath.
The only problem i see here is the fact that Canelo and GGG has to split a percentage. GGG is the interim champ, Canelo the champ etc so going by the WBC rules GGG would get whatever is decree as the interim champ.
Khan is not guaranteed $13 million. He is guaranteed $6 and can make up to $13 million if the fight sells well in England. GGG would only be guaranteed $3 million for an Alvarez fight and he has no PPV market in his home country where he can make money. So, if GGG fought Alvarez, GGG would make $3 million. I don't think so. He is getting 3 million divided with his cannon fodder opponents. He will want a minimum of 10 million to fight Richie Cunningham and will demand the fight at the middleweight limit.
Since he will have the WBC title by the time the fight is signed the fight will be at the 160 pound limit. I don't think this fight happens until 2017 and probably in the fall.

The fight isn't on PPV in the UK.
