For 10 rounds with whatever brain injury he had during that fight???
Seriously if it weren't bad enough fighting Benn fully healthy how did he manage to go ten rounds of pure war with him all whilst hanging his gumshield half way out his mouth and struggling to see properly?
Just looking back on this fight randomly and thinking if i can think of a tougher display of heart showed by the G Man than in that fight.
Truly incredible display of heart showed by both men, hard to believe really.

I always found the fight fascinating but of course the aftermath is horrible. Even when you go back and watch and you see things like the mouthpiece sticking out its crazy.
Never heard of that before but nothing would surprise me with Don King.
You see him after the fight trying to weasel his way into the Benn camp all whilst his fighter is lying badly injured on the canvas.

You're a man of honor for posting this(I doubt the other poster will have the same decency to acknowledge it)
I simply knew this because I've seen fights where this happened when an opponent fell through the ropes and he didn't get a 20 count. It's just not needed and it would be a loophole for people to exploit.

As was I... fair enough. I still insist the ring apron is not considered 'inside the ring' and more 'on' the ring. But I guess I stand corrected.
A house is the whole thing, the roof, the bricks, the everything.... are you considered inside the house if you are stood on the roof? No? How interesting. You can be stood on the outside of the ring (which is called the ring apron.... something you didn't know either until the previous poster informed you) but you are not considered in the ring, until you step between the ropes.
Secondly "out of" is the same as outside "a. From within to the outside of" (Quote from online dictionary). You cannot be outside something if you cannot be inside it.
You're an idiot... the word interior was brought up as an antonym to the word "outside". To have an outside, there must be an inside. One cannot exist without the other. Get it now? Good boy.
The rulebook doesn't say outside, it says 'out of'. So even if you're gonna be that desperate to nitpick words you still got nothing.
You pretty much ignored everything anyway but I'll keep repeating it: The rules don't say you get 20 seconds if you get knocked out of the ropes or interior. Only out of the ring, and go look up what a boxing ring means in the dictionary. It's the whole thing, arsewipe, not just ropes or single parts.
You sound to me like the type of goon who would try to get 20 seconds of recovery by letting yourself fall through the ropes when the heat is on, even though you could get back in easily before the count of 8 you'd have a picknick on the edge of the canvas there for 19 seconds :lol1:

Dude anything beyond the ropes is considered outside of the ring. This is not something that is subjective that you "ask yourself", it is what is stated as the rules of boxing. You even use the example "knocked outside of the ring". Note the word "outside".... as in the outside of an interior (the interior being between the ropes). If it meant what you think it means, it would state "knocked off of the ring". Get it now? Good lad.
See you're the one bringing up terms that aren't stated in the rules, twat.
If a boxer is knocked out of the ring, he gets a count of 20 to get back in and on his feet. He cannot be assisted.
See that? It doesn't say "knocked outside the interior" and it doesn't even say "knocked outside the ropes". It clearly states knocked out of the RING, the ring means the entire construction i.e. canvas, ropes etc. Benn was never at any point out of the ring.
Commentators get a lof of things wrong. Since you don't believe me just ask yourself if you really deserve 20 damn seconds if you get knocked on the edge of the canvas behind the ropes, because it's easy to get back in as we saw even a crippled Benn do(he said the left hook to the body before the last right hand that knocked him through the ropes almost ended him).
Whereas if you fall outside the ring on the ground(that's why the rules say "knocked outside of the ring" not "knocked outside of the ropes") you can't climb in without help because of the boxing gloves so you need the time to walk to the outer corner of the ring on to the stairs up to the canvas, and then finally walk through the ropes.

This is the fight that made me a fight fan and is still the fight that engaged me the most to this day. It will always hold a special place in my heart, along with Castillo/Corrales I
But yeah, this fight was bull****.
The ref should be banned.
Gerald McClellan won the fight in the 1st round AND the ref let Nigel Benn punch him in the back of the head the ENTIRE fight.
That man's life was ruined by a terrible ass ref.
I remember being a little kid and hoping hat G-Man would make a miraculous recovery and come back.
****.
That was the first time I ever became aware that boxing is for real.
The announcers of the bout even said he has 20 seconds.
If you are knocked outside of the fighting ring, whether it's just on the apron or all the way back to the concession stand, you'll have 20 seconds to get back in there...........:boxing:

on the ring apron = out of the ring............:boxing:
Not even the apron, it was on the edge of the canvas just behind the ropes. It's part of the ring. If Benn had fallen off there all the way on the ground or tables like Rahman, he would no longer be on any part of the ring thus giving him 20 seconds to get back in. Benn was only allowed a 10 count.
Here are the rules:
You can probably see some people break a few consistently.
The rules of boxing vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, and on whether it is an amateur or professional bout. A violation of the following rules is considered a foul, and can result in a warning, point deduction, or disqualification by the referee:
You cannot hit below the belt, hold, trip, kick, headbutt, wrestle, bite, spit on, or push your opponent.
You cannot hit with your head, shoulder, forearm, or elbow.
You cannot hit with an open glove, the inside of the glove, the wrist, the backhand, or the side of the hand.
You cannot punch your opponent's back, or the back of his head or neck (rabbit punch), or on the kidneys (kidney punch).
You cannot throw a punch while holding on to the ropes to gain leverage.
You can't hold your opponent and hit him at the same time, or duck so low that your head is below your opponent's belt line.
When the referee breaks you from a clinch, you have to take a full step back; you cannot immediately hit your opponent--that's called "hitting on the break" and is illegal.
You cannot spit out your mouthpiece on purpose to get a rest.
If you score a knockdown of your opponent, you must go to the farthest neutral corner while the referee makes the count.
If you "floor" your opponent, you cannot hit him when he's on the canvas.
A floored boxer has up to ten seconds to get back up on his feet before losing the bout by knockout.
A boxer who is knocked down cannot be saved by the bell in any round, depending upon the local jurisdiction's rules.
A boxer who is hit with an accidental low blow has up to five minutes to recover. If s/he cannot continue after five minutes, s/he is considered knocked out.
If the foul results in an injury that causes the fight to end immediately, the boxer who committed the foul is disqualified.
If the foul causes an injury but the bout continues, the referee orders the judges to deduct two points from the boxer who caused the injury.
If an unintentional foul causes the bout to be stopped immediately, the bout is ruled a "no contest" if four rounds have not been fully completed. (If the bout was scheduled for four rounds, then three rounds must have been completed.) If four rounds have been completed, the judges' scorecards are tallied and the fighter who is ahead on points is awarded a technical decision. If the scores are even, it will be called a "technical draw."
If a boxer is knocked out of the ring, he gets a count of 20 to get back in and on his feet. He cannot be assisted.
In some jurisdictions the standing eight-count or the three knockdown rule also may be in effect.
