As good as Crawford is, I don't think he'll be as successful at WW. There is a huge skill gap between 140 and 147. On top of that, the other WWs are all going to be bigger and stronger than him. Errol Spence for example, would just run through his punches and probably stop him.
Not to say he wouldn't have any success. I think he would beat Pacquiao, Danny Garcia, Jeff Horn, Amir Khan. But Thurman, Porter and Spence would be very tough fights.
No... His skillset is better
Let me explain this to you. Spence is basically a Middleweight who makes Welterweight. Crawford is basically a lightweight who rehydrates to welterweight. Crawford has more of an arsenal but Spence has power, footwork, chin, and he can cut off the ring. The reason Kell was able to have some success was due to the fact that he was a big welterweight. Crawford won't have that same success due to huge size disparity. Think of Oscar vs Pernell or Hearns vs Wilfred. If Crawford had Floyd level defense then this would be 50/50. Crawford doesn't have it so he is a under dog against the top welterweights.
I would favor Spence. He has proven he can take a punch from a big strong WW in Brook. He won't be rocked by Crawford who has to move up in weight. Crawford has yet to be tested by a big puncher with boxing skills. If he gets tagged a few times by Spence he may just crawl into a shell and stay on the defensive.
Terence Crawford vs Errol Spence Jr
For me this fight is too close to call right now as I could see ways to Call it for either fighter. I will say that if They both keep winning this would be a huge huge fight in about two to three years.
What was his strategy tonight?
His strategy tonight is the same one Jennings used against Ortiz and it's the reason they both got their bell rung. JDJ is trying to turn light hitting fighters into maidana. Not even Kovalev fights like how algierie and Jennings have recently, and he has massive power. Why is that? Listen it was a very good win by spence but he beat a fighter who was tailor made for him. Go back and watch how he fought Ruslan or manny. He's not the same guy. He employed the strategy he had versus khan, against a guy who is a butcher.
Algierie nearly got knocked out in 90 seconds versus Ruslan. What did he do? He adjusted mid round. JDJ couldn't even get this guy to adjust in between rounds. I'm a big fan of JDJ but his ideology is wrong for guys like Chris. It's the wrong approach. If he trained him for his fight versus Ruslan we wouldn't Even know Chris' name because he wouldn't have made it past the first round.
manny had more dynamic footwork than Floyd.
But when they fought Floyd limited manny's footwork by using his greater reach and jabbing.
I think your point works against your argument. Crawford's jab and attack are more similar to Floyd's in that he is very effective with his reach and hops right back out of danger. It's not about Floyd's reach at all. Floyd doesn't just rely on reach like someone who "fights tall", it's about the way he uses his feet, shoulders, hips, and movement to maximize his offense. Spence's footwork in no way resembles Mayweather. I don't think Manny is anything like either Terrance or Errol.
he actually isn't. Do you not realize this strategy would have resulted in a 2 round ko versus provodnikov?
I've got to agree. What got him through Provod was discipline and adapting. He lost Pac and Kahn due to lack of skill. He lost tonight from a horrid gameplan. If he fought tonight like he did in the middle and late rounds vs Provod (conservative with lots of movement and getting out of range) he would have at least given a competitive fight. He was a terrible tonight though and let his opponent dictate the fight, the opposite of what he did vs Provod.
What if Errol takes his punches? Errol is a big WW, wasn't he a JMW before going down?
Then we have a real fight! Seeing Crawford's power and ability to get in and out cleanly I'm not giving much attention to the idea that Spence will eat everything Crawford gives and dish back before Terrance is out of range. But, it's always a possibility.
When Algeri moved, Spence was swinging and missing. Chris inexplicably chose to sit on his punches and trade though, which allowed Errol to do his magic.
He did what Pac, Khan, and Provo couldn't do. And Algieri is a better fighter now than he was against Pac and Provo. The fight with Khan was a draw IMO.
Spence is the real deal. He did what special fighters do, end fights. Going the distance with Algieri wouldn't be anything special. Khan & Pac already did it. If you're a special fighter do something that other top fighters couldn't do, stop Algieri. You can't downplay what Spence did tonight.

Close fight but I think Crawford finds a way to hurt him. I don't need to go any further than that actually because once Crawford has you hurt, it's a wrap.
NOTE: I'm talking about if these guys were the same weight, not JWW vs. WW. Only talking about style against style, skill against comparable skill
Crawford has the "recipe" of greatness, which is why I give him a little more credit than he's earned. Footwork, speed+power, and "the instinct". He knows exactly where his opponents are mentally and knows how and when to seal the deal.
I'm seeing great fundamentals and solid power in Spence, but I'm not sold on footwork, speed, or fight IQ. He looked great tonight but his opponent couldn't have make it easier for him, playing right into his game.

Lol, you can't up play it either. Algeiri is a good test. That doesnt make Spence special. Doing it over a number of years does.
