Greater fighter IYO?
Things are t close to even. MAB was in better form the night Manny fought him than Corrales was when Floyd fought him. I don't even understand how he could be on downside considering he was the Champion, hadn't lost in years and still went on to beat Morales, Juarez, and arguably Marquez.
And had just beaten Morales, Tapia, Kelley and Hamed before facing a 23 year old Pacquiao who was just an "opponent".
This is one of the worst comparison threads I've ever seen.
hadnt lost in years?? he fought Manny in 2003 and lost to Morales in 2000.. he had won 8 fights in a row..lets not exaggerate here
Three of the best years in the history of any boxers career. The names he beat in his prime between Morales 1 and Pacquiao 1...
Also, NO way is Coralles not a better win for Floyd than a W against Hatton or Mosley.
Coralles may have fit Floyd's style easily(same with Canelo), it doesn't take away from when he beat him. That's why I also don't hold much stock in Floyd's "win" over Pacquiao. (That being said, the same goes for Pacquiao beating Floyd. If they beat each other in 2010, it would arguably be the greatest single win in boxing history..)
I saw a lot of potshotting and what some fans consider "running" in that fight. He got the KD's and TKO because Super Featherweight felt his power a lot more down there. Floyd landed and threw the same as always, 220 punches landed, 414 punches thrown. And yes he did potshot and used footwork(AKA ran).
For reference, versus Berto his last pro fight, Mayweather threw an almost identical amount as he did versus Corrales(albeit over 12 rounds rather than 10)...232 landed, 410 thrown. Picking a mid career fight, De La Hoya, Mayweather landed 207 of 481.
Power punches in those fights:
129 of 230 - 56% - Corrales
138 of 241 - 57% - DLH
149 of 219 - 68% - Berto
The difference obviously was the weight of the fighters, DLH and Berto were much bigger than Corrales, therefore took Mayweather's punches much better.
yep..............
Corrales was his best win imo.
He looked impressive against a monster.
Remember Diego was ranked higher by some at 130 than floyd.
And this was floyd boxing at his best.
Not no potshotting, running away, clinching, boring fight.
He beat Corrales down.

I understand the point is to compare biggest victories of Floyd and Manny? If you look at overall accomplishments there is no question that Barrera is better. But at the time of the fights in question Corrales was undefeated and high on confidence, while Barrera was on the downside of his career. This evens up things.
Corrales is not FLoyds best win..lol
Cotto
Pacquiao
Hatton
Mosley
Canelo
all easily rank higher

Downside?
You mean he was #1 ranked featherweight in the world, undefeated in years, a string of impressive victories and in the top 10 p4p?
Barrera was in his late 20's btw. Not an old man.
AFTER the pacquiao loss barrera went undefeated for 4 yrs.
Not losing again until he fought Marquez in 2007. A close fight in which he dropped jmm.
In those 4 years after the pacquiao loss, he beat erik morales again, beat down paulie ayala, beat good fighters robbie peden and rocky Juarez twice.
He also unified the wbc and ibf 130 titles and was #1 super featherweight in the world until Marquez and pacquiao moved up to 130 too.
Barrera was greater, he was more dedicated to his craft for longer, he was consistent.
But Corrales in his prime was a top 5 P4P fighter and #1 and #2 ranked SFW, and Ring 135 champ, and #1 ranked 135 fighter. In 2000-2001 Ring ranked him higher than Hamed, Mayweather, Lewis, Hopkins, and Morales. The guys in front of him were Jones, DLH, Trinidad, and Mosley. He was #1 SFW in a stacked division with Mayweather, Casamayor, Freitas, Chavez, Baek, Choi, Garcia.
MAB had the opportunity of fighting with Morales, Hamed, JMM, Pac, Kelley, Sanchez, Tapia, McKinney.
Corrales beating Castillo, Casamayor, Freitas, Garcia, and Gainer, being champion in 2 weight classes, Ring champ at 135, and #1 ranked in both weight classes he fought in were his career highlights which is not something many fighters can say. He had a successful career until the tail end where he got lazy with the weight.
I'm a Corrales fan but this isn't even close. Corrales was seen as a top 10 p4p guy at one stage because he was a physical beast at 130 but he turned out to just be a really good fighter, not a great one.
Curious why the round 7 should be 10-8 for Marco ? Even if he gets credit for the knockdown he still lost the point for hitting Marquez when he was down. Very blatant and obvious foul; Plus Marquez dominated the round had Marco hurt.
Not saying you specifically but I have heard the argument 10-8 for Marco for round 7 before and for some reason everyone ignores that the foul did happen and that Marquez dominated the round
It's cause the ref didn't call the Kd and Mab swung with a delay. If it's called, he probably doesn't foul
I actually think one of Barrera's best performances is his loss to Marquez which was a very close fight...forget the scorecards. Barrera was faded by that point and Marquez was still very much in his prime even if they were a similar age. But Barrera outboxed Marquez and controlled him with his jab for long periods and the knockdown which got ruled into a point deduction was a massive turning point in the fight. It was a round where Barrera should have picked up a 10-8 round but instead it went 10-8 against him, that piece of refereeing still annoys me to this day and was one of the most incompetent calls I have seen.

Imo the chico bout is the best performance of floyd inside the ring but lets not forget also that chico wants that fight to happen at 135 he was having problem cutting weight that time and having legal issues...
Barrera could box ,brawl or be highly technical. That is how skilled barrera is, he is such a bad boy i remember when he knocked down marquez on his knees and he still punched him lol.
Barrera and its not even close.
