For starters, taking away Berto's knockdown in the sixth round the first fight was actually not close. I had Ortiz winning 9 rounds to 3 against Berto.
The reason Berto lost control of the fight is because he doesn't start off first. Ortiz always starts off first and Berto's wide stance and flat feet will set him up to get hurt early. Berto is just an easier target to hit than Ortiz. It will be easier for Ortiz to find Berto first than for Berto to find Ortiz first.
People are picking Ortiz to lose because they think he will quit. I really doubt he will quit when he knows exactly how to beat an opponent he outworked. Analyzing Ortiz, when he gets hurt he wants a way out when his game plan fails. Ortiz is a fighter that can't adjust, he sticks to his style of fighting. The only reason he got up to finish the fight against Berto in the sixth was because whatever he was doing earlier was working effectively. Right after the knockdown in round 6, Ortiz went back to what he was doing because Berto isn't difficult to figure out.
People will compare them by their common opponent, Josesito Lopez. Lopez fought Ortiz coming up in weight, but he hadn't been stopped. By the time Berto fought Lopez, Lopez had already went through a war with Ortiz, got stopped by Canelo, and Maidana. Josesito was so damaged that even Mike Arnaoutis knocked him down after his come back from the Maidana fight. Ortiz fought the fresher version of Josesito and was winning the fight before his jaw broke. Berto on the other hand was getting outworked before stopping a worn out Josesito.
Another thing to take into consideration is that Berto hasn't fought a power puncher since he fought Ortiz. Guerrero, Mayweather, and Soto Karass don't have the Ortiz pop. In the first fight between Berto and Ortiz, Berto was concussed by the power of Ortiz. Ortiz is damaged himself, but Berto's chin should be in question too since it hasn't been tested in a while.
I'm going with Victor Ortiz, TKO round 5. A confident Ortiz is dangerous.
I have lost all faith in Ortiz. When he beat Berto I though he had a bright future, I even forgave him for giving up against Lopez, but the way he just flat out QUIT against Collazo left a sour taste in my mouth.:peeright:
This fight is so pointless. Neither guy has done anything in years, both are completely shot, and Ortiz will probably get arrested before the fight or something similar, he's a complete wreck.
Berto wins this fight. Ortiz will be hiding his fragile jaw all night long in this fight. Watch the Collazo fight. There's a reason why he's been taking long layoffs. He's cashing out.
I've got 5 trillion for Berto. I'll take less if you don't have enough.
Nah, the reason why Ortiz was stopped by Collazo was because Collazo was able to take what Ortiz had to give. As soon as Collazo landed the right hook Ortiz didn't get knocked off balance or go down, Ortiz ran and turned his back and Collazo hit him with a straight left to the back of Ortiz' head. That was Ortiz' fault tho, it was as if he had some PTSD when he got tagged on the chin and chose not to continue because he doubted himself after exchanging with Collazo. I don't think Berto will poses that kind of threat. Berto isn't a busy fighter.

There you go. People need to start putting their points where their mouths are.
I only got 39K for Berto. Pathetic. I'm not even putting them on the line.

Seeing as how Ortiz could be shot enough to be knocked out by luis collazo and generally seems to be uncaring or benevolent during his major fights half the time, at this point you dont even know which ortiz is gonna show up.
It would be a great win for Ortiz if he could beat Berto.
Not that Berto is great, but he did beat Josesito Lopez not long ago. I'm not saying Lopez is that good but you still need to be a half decent fighter to beat him. Given the fact Ortiz is seen to be completely finished already, it would be a good win for him because at least Berto has shown he can still beat a decent fighter like Lopez.
This sounds like i'm hyping Lopez and Berto, not at all, but they're much better than Ortiz right now in most peoples eyes, so it would be a good win for him.
I agree that the first fight really wasn't that close, especially in the second half where Ortiz basically whipped Berto's ass. Not sure why it was the unanimous FOTY that year.
I wouldn't consider it an upset if Ortiz won again. Berto's done nothing recently to think he's some considerable favorite.
If you analyze the two in pure boxing ability, Ortiz is clearly the smarter fighter. It sounds surprising, but it's true. It was fight of the year because each exchanged knockdowns, but Ortiz completely outclassed Berto and I am expecting for Ortiz to knock Berto out this time.
Is this some kind of tournament of losers? Both of these clowns are past it. Berto may have a little something left, but it's probably just barely more than Ortiz has.
