as boxing fans, we're being cheated the worst by mikey garcia, this cat has all the tools.
his contract w/ toprank really has to be that bad if dude hasn't laced them up for a fight in what, more than 2 years?
And I'm telling you Burgos didnt drop him. :lol1:
I don't think he would need to improve. He'd beat plenty of fighters even in his current state. Both landed a total number of clean shots you could count on your hands. Its not a good idea to bet on fighters whose primary key to victory is a hail mary. Mikey is much more skilled and is just an all-around bad match-up for Maidana. I don't think he would need to be 100% to beat him.
He was stumbled against Burgos and knocked down vs Martinez.
But these guys were lightweights, Maidana is a WW, probably has to fight at JMW now if he ever comes back. I can't see Garcia taking Maidana's shots at 147.
Not embarrassing. It just happens. Anyone can knock anyone out. If you're going rounds and rounds with someone in the gym eventually something will land.
Damn that's embarrassing. I still remember how Khan almost KOd him with a body shot
Most embarrassing is a 16 year old kid giving Pacquaio a boxing lesson when he was in his prime
Mikey Garcia literally got hit once in the Rocky fight. Burgos hurt him, didnt drop him. So two total shots in two separate fights. He has good defense. Hes chinny, but skill level wise, much higher than Maidana in pretty much every category other than power.
Maidana has always struggled against boxer types. It would be no different here.
Mikey is also a way better boxer than someone like Broner and much closer to Mayweather skill-wise than vice-versa, with just enough pop to have a good chance at stopping him. Maidana probably wouldn't go all gung-ho on Garcia due to this. And at a slower, more measured pace, is all the more advantage to Garcia.
Of course sparring is totally different, but both these guys have pro fights, and we know a lot about how they fight. Sparring results are created in a bubble of circumstances different from those of a regular fight and are generally meaningless, but there are some snippets and pieces of truth in it.
Maidana is too lacking in boxing skill and you can clearly tell that Mikey hurts him in sparring with single blows with headgear on. Maidana is mentally tough, but hes not the most durable fighter. Maidana has to catch him, and I wouldn't bet on the fighter who needs to get a bit lucky to land his shots consistantly. Im not saying Maidana cant win, this is just the way I would see the fight going.
But i'm saying he got dropped against Martinez and Burgos and those were his last two opponents. His last fight was more than 2 years ago, that's two years of his prime gone, and you don't improve like that.
Garcia is only 130 after draining his body down to make weight. The guy probably walks around (in shape) in the 150's.
You are not allowed to use your brain here. Go away.
Zab Judah allegedly dropped Mayweather in sparring for the Pac fight. That's the same guy who dropped Mayweather in their pro bout years ago and same guy who Khan KOd in 5 rounds. It is what it is.
maidana is glass and floyd couldn't even hurt him lol. dropped 3 times by ortiz, dropped by khan, hurt by lopez, dropped by a 130 pounder what does floyd do to him...hug!
And while all those guys just faced Maidana as he was... Floyd forced him to use pillow gloves both times, scared of his punching power. And arguably lost once to him. But TBE undefeated doe.
Mikey Garcia, the guy that is complaining about not getting paid enough but he hasn't received a pay check for fighting for over two years lol cause that makes sense!
Theres really no point to this. Maidana could be in the shape of his life and he would still get koed by Mikey regardless. Mikey has already hurt him multiple times while sparring for Maidana's fights despite the headgear and weight discrepancy.
Theres levels to this game.
It's true there are levels, but that's sparring, how many good fighters take an "L" in sparring? We saw Mikey take knock downs in his last two fights before his hiatus, to Roman Martinez a pretty sloppy fighter in his own right, and Burgos. While Maidana's last two opponents, Mayweather and Broner, Maidana looked pretty good. You don't get better by sitting out. I think Maidana crushes Garcia in a real pro boxing match with their record on the line. Sparring is sparring, nothing is really on the line except for a sparring story in which you lost.
