But Thurman doesn't have the experience IMO.
The Maidana that fought Mayweather would destroy Thurman. Marcos is a crafty brawler. Look at how he was setting traps on Mayweather's black ass.

The Maidana that fought Mayweather was washed up old, and already had one foot out of the game talking about retirement. Thurman should beat him. Now, the Maidana that fought Khan was fresh, in his prime and at his peak. Thurman loses to that Maidana probably. Maidana was a good fighter in his prime, around the time Khan fought him.
Maidana ducked Thurman already.

Team Maidana:
He 154 doe.
He 17-0 doe.
He tall doe.
Maidana fans:
Maidana beat him doe.
Maidana's team said this on 07-02-2012, after Maidana lost to Devon Alexander in his welterweight debut. So, according to you, Maidana -- coming off a loss -- should have fought a big puncher who, at the time, was fighting at 154. That sounds reasonable to you? Maidana didn't even have a trainer. You're coming off as a stupid troll.
I'll have a more informed opinion after he fights Porter.
Yeah... who are you picking BPP?
Team Maidana:
He 154 doe.
He 17-0 doe.

Maidana beat him doe.
Yup and this isn't any opponent Maidana can jump on, it's a heavy handed counter puncher who'd hurt Maidana to the body or put him down.
I'll have a more informed opinion after he fights Porter.
This is how I see it, while I would have favored Thurman quite heavily, we're gonna learn a lot about Thurman after the Porter fight.

Brutal. Hope the truth doesn't hurt too many of the blind followers
Too bad the Marcos that fought Floyd was a one fight thing. Even though broner got knocked down a few times he still fought back and win rounds. This woulda been a great fight. But chino rather wear Versace silk shirts and sleep in box cars lol

To me particularly, and not just me, nobody liked the idea because the truth is Thurman is a guy who’s really a super welterweight.
We told Golden Boy that we didn’t want the fight. We want a tuneup. Is that a tuneup? All big name fighters take tune ups. And when they do tuneups, do they do them against a 17-0 opponent with 16 knockouts and a super welterweight?” asked Contursi as he referred to the 5’11 Thurman.

Fight I really wanted to see.
Maybe it can still be made at 154 in the future.
But Maidana seems done.
It would have ended in a KO for sure.
Hey bro didn't maidana duck him when thurman was coming up on hbo??
I still think maidana woulda beaten thurman badly
Same here. I think Thurman won't be able to evade Maidana's strong offense.
I always thought Thurman would beat Maidana without too much trouble. Porter is a better and harder fight for Thurman I think.
Maybe if he caught him early otherwise I see it as a win for Maidana. Thurman doesn't have the experience or skills to beat a motivated, in-shape Maidana. He does, however, have the power to land a fight-ending punch.
Maidana would outbox him. Although I can see Thurman's foot movement giving Chino problems. But once Maidana gets close to Thurman he would f*** him up badly.
Id favor Maidana if he was still active. Otherwise a pick em fight.
Maidana's boxing style requires a lot of motivation. Mike Tyson said this, too.
Maidana's style and wit could thump anyone on a good night imo.
Excellent post.
He turned down the fight when Maidana's trainer had just died and he was coming off a loss to Devon Alexander. Maidana said he wanted to retire but his team asked him for 1 more fight, specifically a tune-up and Haymon tried using Maidana as a stepping stone so Contursi (Maidana's manager) found out what Haymon was trying to do and he cancelled the fight. It wasn't Maidana himself.
Wow, great informative post! I would give you green k but I have to spread some around first.
It would be a hell of a fight, and in-shape and motivated might weather the early storm and possibly make Thurman fold in the later rounds. Or Thurman hurts Maidana and takes him out.
The only thing that Thurman has is power... everything else is overrated.
