Going into the Glazkov fight his best wins were over Vincent Thompson (13-0), Joey Dawejko, Glendy Hernandez (10-0), Alex Flores (14-0), Raphael Zumbano Love, Tom Dallas & Kertson Manswell. He beat 3 undefeated prospects as he was coming up & beat 4 decent journeymen. He even had a draw vs Blob punching bag Alvaro Morales. He got the #2 IBF ranking. Fury upsets Klitschko & vacates the IBF title leaving Glazkov & martin to fight for the vacant belt. He wins the title without needing the scorecards or a knockout blow. His first defence he signs to fight a 15 fight novice on PPV. He will collect a 7 digit check win or lose. That is the luckiest HW I have ever seen. If he beats Joshua he will be getting some big pay days against the elite fighters. Charles Martin is the luckiest man in boxing...
Agreed If he actually beat Glazskov the right way and not relied on him being injured then I might give him more credit.
Martin would've beaten Glazkov injury or not. He's garbage.
it's not just the HW division, look at the ibf mandos for welterweight, kell brook is probs fighting lesser opponents now than it be hadn't won that belt, but may as well meet your trinket requirements and make money. Martin may be win win as no matter what, at worst he's ex world champ millionaire after Joshua and dude isn't even 30, and can stay in the mix for a while as what effectively still a prospect himself at this stage.
I hope aj does the job though, is nice to be able to talk boxing with your casual mates in the UK again now that the stink from May Pac has gone, Eddie hearn is totally right that is sky that is responsible for the great exposure his headliners get, being plugged on sky sports news, every single football fan gets to know names and faces, even if they don't follow boxing.
those box office ppv numbers even have haymon throwing he's newly minted champ into an away fight, if it's another crowd pleaser like the whyte fight, drama of him getting hurt then coming back to demolish, UK boxing guarantees more future revenue

He already won the lottery with hits like trouble, yellow, in my place, warning sign, and the scientist. He's a hit maker.
Have you lot actually seen Martin fight?
The only way Martin beats Joshua is if Joshua does a Glazkov and injures himself.
The quality gap is extremely large.
Lol. The guy won 23 professional fights and worked his way up the IBF rankings. That ain't no lottery ticket. He would've been Wlad or Fury's mando at some point.
Well he's walking in as the champion against Joshua - on PPV. He's earning 10 times what he would for a mando shot, and let's face it - He maybe have to face Joshua or Takam or someone like that for a mandatory shot and he'd most likely lose.
So it's definitely fair to say he had a lottery ticket considering he didn't beat anyone recognizable at all.
That man has my respect. Chill guy who has some balls, travels to the UK and fights the most dangerous man in boxing. AJ is still pretty green so much better to fight him now than in a couple years.
He won the fights he was suppose to win. He never beat a guy in the top 30 to get a #2 ranking. The alphabet titles are pretty generous. The stars have all been aligned for this guy. Win or lose to Joshua he is in pretty good shape without having to fight anybody other than Glazkov. He could turn out to be a solid champion but how he got his belt is pretty lucky in my opinion. I'm sure there were not many guys lining up to fight a 6'5 southpaw much like Ortiz.
All jokes aside, you're absolutely right. The dude worked for his shot against Glazkov. Maybe that particular win was fluky, but you can't knock him for being in the position that he's in
I'll never knock a guy for doing what he is supposed to do, but these alphabet titles and the way these guys look in the ring...He could pressure Joshua and make something happen I suppose. Its a great payday and who knows we might have another liverpool plumber waiting to be exposed!

Joe he has had to move the hard way. There were not any named opponents that even wanted to give him a chance
People stay trying to keep Chuck down. He'll show them when he KO's Joshua

Yeah, I'd pick Stiverne, Arreola, Thompson, even Manuel Charr to beat him. Easily. Hell I might even take Travis Kauffman over him.
Saying that, it is the heavyweight division. If Buster Douglas can knock Mike Tyson the **** out as a 42-1 dog, ANYTHING can happen.
Plus no matter what happens now he will have a long career as a gatekeeper at heavy which is pretty lucrative. That is on top of his decent payday for the vacant belt and getting a very nice payday to travel.
