To me, the biggest joke in boxing history is this 155 bull****. I know catchweights have existed since the beginning of time. But not like this. If you have two champions a division apart, meet in the middle and make the fight for the fans. That's the purpose of a catchweight.
But here, Canelo has literally created his own weight division. :lol1: His last 4 and upcoming fight are at 155. It's not about meeting champions in the middle. He's now bringing up undersized welters or trying to drain undersized middles. What is going on here?
Where is the media outrage? Are they afraid to lose their credentials?
Where is the fan outrage? Do You Even Care?
What are Your Opinions on this 155 ****?
Some fans want GGG to get ****ed over so that he can face some sort of struggle because he's been making it look relatively effortless inside the ring. I'd rather Team GGG remain stubborn on the weight because someone needs to draw the line. The "A-side" bull**** exists because there's always a fighter willing to submit in negotiations for the golden opportunity. If Canelo continues to cherry-pick, he runs the risk of getting humiliated.
It's a joke but do you know what? canelo will offer 157 and GGG will say NO. And then the ******* will condemn GGG and say that canelo offered a reasonable CW, when in fact Canelo enters the ring heavier than GGG.
In an ideal world, if Canelo wont defend his belt at 160 vs mandatory GGG, he should be stripped. But the ABC's have no credibility when they are paid as a % of the purse, they have ever incentive to favor the more popular fighter and not the more deserving fighter. It would be like having the Superbowl with the two teams with the most ticket and merchandise revenue compete every year instead of a play off system.
He started this **** to duck GGG.
Hes been doing it so long i guess he feels he needs to keep doing it. It didnt even make any sense vs cotto because it benefited cotto more than him since he cuts a lot more weight than cotto.
Sergio, Cotto and now Canelo all ducked GGG and that is fact. I dont even like GGG because he doesnt even try to fight anyone good. If those guys dont want to play ball you got to take handle of your own career and go to 168 or fight lara... do something besides fighting these cab drivers.

That's the option I voted for. It's a negotiating tactic. Canelo can offer 157 under the condition he gets an even larger purse split or some ****. Or the situation you said. Canelo offers to meet in the middle which would be a good public relations move.
Your percentages add up way beyond 100%, it's actually about 140% ....
Perhaps you should look into the math ???
You can vote multiple options on this poll.

- In my opinion it needs to stop. In the 90's when DLH/Tito/RJ/ etc..when these guys were moving up weight classes, they were going from 147/154/160 etc..none of this catch weight nonsense. It should count againts them when its all said and done. When comparing HOF and great fighters. In my eyes it does.
He'll fight anyone from 54-68 he said. Remember Floyd using the Boxing Scene article against Canelo, Canelos just using the same tactic.

Why would he need Cotto who barely sold 300k vs lineal champ Sergio when he outdid that vs shot Angulo or even fan unfavorite Lara? And why is he still holding that meaningless belt he doesn't care about, and attracting criticism from 155 and ducking the mando?
For fighters 140-160, the biggest names possible were Mayweather, Pacquiao, and Cotto; outside of a Floyd rematch, Cotto was the biggest name that Alvarez could consider.
Cotto-Martinez may not have been a PPV blockbuster (the network investment in Martinez was spotty, at best), but it did massive business in New York (from what I can remember), while also drawing it's own fair amount of public interest.
Beyond that, Alvarez is still holding the WBC 160 belt, because it's still the WBC 160 belt and the WBC, based in Mexico, has yet to do anything to move Alvarez off of the fights that he likely would've taken regardless. (Note how the WBC has refused to do anything in regards to locking in the 'must fight at 160' issue).
If the WBC moves against what Alvarez wants to do, I doubt that he bends to there will; Alvarez will prepare a respectful letter, likely host a press conference in Mexico City or Los Angeles, and kindly explain why he's returning their 160 title to pursue the fights that he want to have on his own terms.
Because fighting Cotto (with the hyped 'Puerto Rico vs Mexico' rivalry) was finally Alvarez's second opportunity to break into superstardom (After Floyd and Pacquiao, Cotto is arguably the third biggest star in the sport, with only Klitschko competing with him at the time).
Alvarez bent over one more time, finally knocked off a name fighter, and has now likely elevated himself to the point where Alvarez vs a broom (on starpower alone) is a 500k-600k PPV fight, compared to the 300k-400k that was arguably the case before that.

if you're a fighter and want to fight him you meet his 155 demand. If the fighters wouldn't accept his petty demands he would move up to 160 or stay at 154. So he's the money man and if you want the money you meet his demand.
If you're a fan and you don't support his 155 weight, you don't watch him. Most people and casuals don't give a shlt and still watch.
So pretty much it boils down to him being a popular name and bringing good pay days to the other fighters. If you want the big payday, you fight him at his weight and if not, he'll just pass you along as there are PLENTY of fighters that are willing to fight him at 155 to make some money. SEE Khan.
That's fine, strip the fraud and he can keep fighting WWs at 155. Who's next, what's your guess? Berto got some nice Ppv exposure recently. Guerrero is always game

My only issue with it is that Canelo made weight so comfortably these last couple of fights that he could easily be fighting at 154.
I get 155 for the Cotto fight, but for the rest I'd like to see him just fight at 154. He's not a middleweight and he doesn't need to be holding a middleweight title.
So why did he take such a lopsided B side purse vs champ Cotto?

Alvarez would've fought Cotto for the interim EBU sideweight title for ****'s sake; why folks continue to act as if Alvarez had actually placed any value in being middleweight champion is laughable.
Canelo says he's a junior middleweight, Canelo's trainers say he's a junior middleweight, Canelo's promoter says he's a junior middleweight, yet, to hear folks like you tell it, the WBC 160 title is so prestigious that all of that is superceded.
If Golovkin and his camp want the WBC belt so badly, Alvarez will likely be happy to express mail the vacant belt to him.
So why did he take such a lopsided B side purse vs champ Cotto?
