I was curious how much the purses are because the same ppl crying Khan isn't fighting punchers now saying this is a cash grab. $ is obviously part of it, but not all of it. It is after all prize and not pride fighting (no pun intended).
Khan makes around $10 million or so vs Brook, which is a more winnable fight comparing it to Canelo and the circumstances around the weight.

Dude you need a mathematics lesson. 60% of 8.7 is not 4, I love it when a foreigner tries to tell a Brit how popular a fighter in the UK is and how ppv works here. The networks here do not take as much as HBO and Showtime.
8.7 times 60% in 5.2; if Sky Sports in the only entity that took anything out of the pot, congrats, it's $5m instead of $4m. I doubt that that's the case but, as a non-Brit, I have nothing else to go on.
Also, it's just as hilarious to hear a Brit talk about something that they don't know either; HBO/Showtime, on the standard PPV, only end up taking 7% on the PPV plus the $10hd fee. The cable distributors (Comcast, TimeWarner, DirectTV, Dish, AT&TUvere, etc) walk away with ~40% of the PPV.
Klitschko-Fury, being in Germany, aired at a reasonable time in the UK, while also involving a top British fighter who fights in Britain.
And nice try on that slight of hand; every Sky Sports card that you mentioned was promoted by Frank Warren, before the launch of BoxNation, where the rest of Khan's fights have aired since. Glad I checked that info out, lol.
Glad to take wagers if you want.
Yes but you said that every fight that has been on ppv has been Matchroom, I wanted to prove to you that wasn't the case and give you the most recent example. There are more...but I can't be bothered debating with someone who clearly knows nothing about the UK scene.
Are you glad are you? I am glad you didn't waste your time, because it wasn't you absolute tit. Boxnation was launched in September 2011, since then Khan fought Peterson, Garcia, Molina, Alexander all on Sky. In fact he has had more fights on Sky since Boxnation has started 4-3.
400k PPV buys @15gbp equals 6m-gbp. @$1.45 per gbp, you're looking at $8.7m. Assuming the TV distributors take about the same in the UK as they do in the US and you're looking at a touch more that $4m coming off of the Joshua PPV.
Not that complicated.

Where are you getting your numbers from? Where are you even from, because you don't really know what you are talking about. How does 400k ppv buys equate to $4 million? First of all the currency in this country is pound sterling, and 400k ppv buys @ £15 (£20 on the night) is a minimum take of £6 million, out of which 40% normally goes to the network (Sky).

How about a little fight with Fury and Klitschko not very long ago. There have been plenty if you go back over the last 5 years. Khan has been on Sky and Sky Box office plenty of times including Kotelnik, Barrera, Prescott. Maidana was also on Sky. He fell out with them over the McCloskey fight but since then the Alexander, Garcia, and Diaz fight were on Sky. So yeah plenty.
Alvarez was not the draw he is today before Mayweather, he has become much bigger since Floyd and Cotto, two bonafide stars.
The fact that you claim to know whether Sky Sports bid for Canelo v Mayweather is more laughable. There is no way to know unless you know a studio head.
I guarantee that both will go in for this fight though, and I will be massively surprised if Sky don't pick it up as a ppv. There is a chance that Warren might get it for Boxnation I would say.
When you have been proved wrong I will look for you.

I don't think the UK market is as petty as the US market is with things like this. I could easily see Sky wanting this fight & it being good for Hearn & Sky long term anyway in refocusing Khan's UK fans with the intention of Brook vs Khan at a future date at 147 or 154.
But again regardless I can't see someone not jumping on this fight & PPVing it in the UK. It'd be silly not to as its a guy who at least arguably at one time had a good UK following vs arguably the new #1 draw in the sport. Idk if there is tons of money to be made here, but there is for sure money to be made.
I just don't think Canelo's name is as big in the UK as people want to think it is. Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, throughout Mexico and in CA/NV/TX, is probably the #1 draw in the sport. In Chicago? New York? I sincerely doubt it; Cotto is still bigger, with Danny Garcia and Deontay Wilder likely having bigger followings in New York.
With Brook-Khan at least being put off for a year, I don't see why Sky Sports would bother with airing the fight, especially if there's a real chance that it ends bad for Khan.
The amount of coverage already given by Sky sports shows their interest, this fight will be PPV on Sky whether you like it or not.
Willing to make a wager on that?
Don't think we'll know the exact figures until closer to the fight.
Ultimately, this fight and payday allows Khan to return to 147 and get another payday as he's expected to lose. It's a win-win financially.
If he makes it out of this fight alive...
I don't think it is a cash grab by Khan at all. He could have made much more money fighting Brook. Brook is a dangerous opponent but not nearly as dangerous as Canelo. Khan really thinks he is the greatest and he intends to prove it by beating Canelo. I can't imagine Khan risking a humiliating KO defeat just for cash. I think Canelo will knock Khan out quickly and easily. Khan believes in his fighting skills and expects to beat Canelo.
Khan probably just couldn't stomach losing to Kell Brook, to be honest.
Yeah Sky generally don't, sometimes it comes out in the media, but I don't understand some people. Whether you like a fighter or not, just call a spade a spade. This is a big fight which is caught everyone off guard and it will for sure be on ppv in the UK, there is no doubt about it. I have a lot of friends who are casual boxing fans and I know this will grab them because it captures the imagination and there is a big unknown to it, and I know some of my friends will watch because they think they will be guaranteed a KO (of Khan).
Exactly a lot of people will gladly pay hoping to see Khan get knocked out...Others will pay because its a great against the odds underdog story.
Surprising the amount of casuals I heard mentioning this fight...Once the fight gets closer The British Media will be going full throttle hyping it. The fight might not be good for Khans long term health, but it will be good for Boxing.
Sky never release official figures so the figures being bandied about are merely speculation.
It seems to me people because of their hatred of Khan are hoping against hope this fight isnt PPV in the U.K.
The British Media including Sky are already giving this fight massive hype. It will be a big event no matter how much the Khan haters dislike it.

Joshua is being explicitly backed by Sky Sports/Matchroom Sport, with most believing that Joshua may actually be the next great heavyweight fighter, let alone British fighter; they've brought Joshua along as best as one could expect, have started to dabble with him being a PPV fighter, and the early returns are increasingly promising.
The only entity that's ever backed Khan in anything like that is Frank Warren and his BoxNation platform; Sky Sport's interest in Amir Khan, to be blunt, only go as far as staging a massive domestic fight with domestic rival Kell Brook, a fighter that Sky Sports and Matchroom Sport have invested in building up.
For all the talk of Joshua already being a massive PPV success, context is key; 400k PPV buys, even at the most favorable of terms, still only brought in ~$4m on the take, a figure subsidized by a massive live gate.
Is BoxNation really going to shell out the massive bucks for a fight that they'll be getting at 3 in the morning, without the benefit of a live gate, for a fighter whose UK popularity, to me, is in doubt for the simple reason of his fans having not seen him in years? I doubt it.

If Froch-Groves 2 sold 900k, I think Canelo-Khan can do it too, even though it was only the price of take-out Chinese food at 16.75 or whatever.
No comparison. Froch-Groves 2 was a perfect storm. It just fell into their lap. Sky have a lot of influence but they won't be able to do anything like that with Khan-Canelo.
Please name a single other major fight, outside of Mayweather-Pacquiao, that wasn't with Matchroom Sport that Sky Sports put on Sky Box Office; heck, Mayweather vs Alvarez, as big as that fight was, ended up on BoxNation with nary any objection from Sky Sports.
To drive the point even further, how many Amir Khan fights have even aired on Sky Sports?
The notion that some bidding war is going to erupt is laughable.

Froch Groves had a massive push from sky sports based on the bitter rivalry and the controversy . A national tour, with loads of media coverage over months. It captured the casual market on channels like Sky Sports News, which has a large "soccer" audience. It was aired at Prime Time UK. That did 900k?
AJ vs Whyte again had months of build up on sky sports. They pitched the bitter rivalry with a few documentary style build ups and pushed it mainly on a large "soccer" audience channel, capturing the casual market. That was again aired at prime time and did 400k?
Floyd Vs Manny, was the biggest fight of ALL time. This got a huge push from sky and due to it's magnitude, did fairly well. It aired at 3am in the UK, and still only managed to do 400k reportedly.
Neither Khan or Canelo have a big following in the UK. There is no big rivalry. There is no controversy. The's no bitterness. It's unlikely to receive a big build up, no documentaries, or head to heads to spice it up. It's going to be aired at 3am most likely. I can't categorically say it won't do well, but i'd be very surprised if this did good PPV numbers in the UK.
