They strike me as very similar caliber fighters except that Canelo has had the benefit of fighting smaller guys most of his career whereas Povetkin is a smaller heavyweight. Discounting that, who is the better fighter?
Canelo, but his record flatters him a little.
Well he lost to Floyd, no shame there. He could quite easily have a loss to Lara on there. Even Austin Trout could have a win over him, not that i think Trout won but it was quite close and i've seen plenty of fights nowhere near as close as that go to the other guy.
Also, i do give him some credit for beating Cotto but Cotto has been done for a long time. I said on here before the fight that this Cotto comeback under Roach was a false dawn, he had been carefully matched for a few years to look good and was dining out on beating a crippled Martinez.
Don't get me wrong, i actually like Canelo a lot but i'd say for a guy who is considered the biggest thing in boxing outside of Manny and Floyd, he's yet to beat a really top fighter who is still close to their prime. I'd say Lara was the closest thing to it and even then i don't think Lara is elite and that fight could have gone the other way quite easily.
They can do a 200 lbs catch weight and find out.
I'd love to see Canelo vs George Groves after the Khan fight. Or Povetkin vs Kovalev. We need more class hopping, none of this catchweight nonsense anymore.
Yeah, back then he had issues with coaches and I think he didnt trained properly under Teddy Atlas. I will bet my house that in rematch Povetkin ices Huck in 5 rounds...
It's a fight with great rematch potential. It needs to be made. In fact Huck needs to fight more often at heavyweight period. I'm surprised he hasn't considering how well he did against one of its premier opponents. And as much as I enjoy watching Ola Afolabi, I don't think I could stomach a fifth fight between the two.
Are we rating them on how well they do against fighters in their respective divisions? There's a major problem with that already since Povetkin fights at heavy, and is consistently required to fight against guys who'd be several weight classes above him if he were in a closed weight class. Canelo never has to deal with that. Still, Canelo's never gone life and death with a smaller fighter the way Povetkin did with Huck, and generally looks to have crisper combos and heavier hands relative to the opponents he's fighting, so I'm going to side with him.
I doubt he even watched the fight he just heard some 'tard thinking huck won and now repeats it every time the topic arises.
Go back and watch the fight, it was hardly close, huck won some rounds and landed some shots but still clearly lost, just look at his face at the end ffs. both eyes swollen shut with his face being a battered and bloody mess.
BTW Isn't trolling supposed to be witty/somewhat amusing ? because he fails miserably at both.
He's coming across like he's having more of a mental breakdown.
No i saw the fight and Povetkin looked sluggish and slow, was even hurt a couple of times
He was out of shape but yeah, you're right.
But unlike Canelo, he hasn't fought men much smaller than him for the major part of his career. He hasn't been gifted with questionable decisions either.
And you bigging up Canelo in order to defend one of Floyd's biggest wins doesn't exactly match your new online persona...You're a GGG troll, remember?
Im not bigging up Canelo at all and didnt even mention Mayweather..but Canelos resume is clearly better the Povetkins and he has shown much more skill, even if he is a coward
I don't remember sasha being hurt, i remember he gassed pretty badly though...

Nahh he's right. That fight was close, Huck hurt Povetkin at least twice from what I remember. But the right man won.
It was a very entertaining scrap, though. Most Huck's fights are.

and Povetkin went life and death and should have lost to the smaller Huck
It was a controversial fight. According to Povetkin's team, Huck exuded an unbearable stench, LOL. Sasha gassed out cuz he couldnt properly breeze...
He almost lost to a cruiserweight
He was out of shape but yeah, you're right.

Sh1t he said Canelo went life and death with Cotto for crying out loud
it was a close fight, cotto made him look like incredibly flat footed, so yeah by your definition it was ' life and death ' :lol1:
oh you're trolling.
Povetkin has one of the best resumes in the division, who has he fought? oh he's only Knocked dead top 10 heavyweights in his last 3 fights, the other being an iron jawed polak roided to the gills, who happens to have the best chin in the history of the universe... also got stopped.
any other questions? :baby:
Canelo has clearly fought better comp
who has Povetkin even fought lately?
