It's the first boxing event being held at the brand new stadium in the Vegas Strip. Of course they were going to go for the big names. Khan and his handlers have no issue with the weight whatsoever, and neither should you.
It's 8 lbs for crying out loud, and Khan is a big guy. I'm sure you've all seen his "off season" pictures at the beach. He looks close to 180 lbs which is likely what Canelo walks around at too. Even so, "walk around" weight doesn't matter when there are weight classes in place.
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Khan weighs in higher than Canelo, probably in the ball park of 154.5 and still look healthy and lean too.
Canelo will win, but it won't be by knockout. It will be a UD win.
I didn't mean for GGG to force himself down to fight Canelo. I meant he should match Khan's eagerness to get a big fight in general. He could do what Khan is doing and simply move UP in weight to get a big fight. Or he could look around for 154 lb'ers with names to dry and take up. Do what it takes to get those BIG fights. But I guess that's not GGG's style.
He clearly is eager - tried to get fights with Sturm, Martinez, Cotto, Canelo. Technically Ward too, but I don't think either party was that keen. You could put Saunders and Quillin in this list, but neither are truly big fights. Of course there was the ruckus with Froch and potentially something in the works with another SMW. I guess he just wants to see what Canelo does first.
If Golovkin forced a 154 to move up, there would be outrage and people would make excuses if the 154 lost. I'm thinking Lara here, who always calls out Golovkin after he's got a fight lined up, and hasn't tried to even create negotiations. If GGG beat him, everyone would say he struggled with the new weight, Golovkin cherry picked, and Lara was never elite.
I'm willing to give GGG until mid 2017. If nothing has worked out with Canelo, i'll lose a lot of respect for Canelo. If he has 3 belts by then, I'd wait to see if Saunders works out. If those don't happen, he should fight at SMW, and drop down again if Canelo begins fighting at 160. However, it's probably easier at his age to put weight on than take it off.
But Golovkin is bigger than Khan and would be losing weight, not putting weight on. If 8lbs isn't a big deal, 5lbs is even less of a deal, especially if Canelo is so good. Considering Nelo comes in at 175+ anyway and Golovkin is around 171, there should really be no issue with 5lbs.
Feel free to keep defending Canelo, but I bet he'll come in 180+ for this fight, with Khan about 160. Complete sham of a fight.
Golovkin hasn't got names for want of trying. He's the most avoided boxer today.

In all honesty the Lopez fight was a much bigger sham than this.
Khan is a big WW, he has the frame and body type to make 155 comfortably. Now if it were at the full 160 lb limit then maybe I'd say otherwise. But 8 lbs is not a big deal for Khan. For others it might have been.
And I really don't have any stake in this fight so stop calling me biased. I don't like Canelo nor Khan. But I do admire Khan's willingness to do whatever it takes to get the big names and fights. Something that GGG should look into.

If you really believe that 8lbs is 'no big deal' then I'm sorry to say you DKSAB
If 8 lbs isn't a huge deal, why is Canelo being such a diva about going up 5 lbs to fight Golovkin in his mandatory WBC title defence, at the full MW limit?
WOW left hook to the body!
It's also no surprise to see that the same group of twats that absolutely slaughtered manny for fighting at catchweights are actively applauding this kind of crap(we all know why and his name begins with a G). Pathetic bunch of mongs.:nonono:
This thread proves that the stupidity levels on this forum are still through the roof. Fuk it! Lets just do away with weight divisions. Lets applaud fighters for pissing all over the prestige and history of this sport. Idiots.
Bigger frame means the ability to carry more muscle without getting bulky. Khan has the frame to do it. Lopez should have put more effort into his workouts.
He doesnt. He is naturally skinny and tall for his weight.
His bones arent big enough to stack on muscle without it affecting his stamina, speed, balance etc

I agree. This is more than a fight, it's an event with the intent to open the new arena with a bang. They needed big names so that's what they went out and got.
It's nothing more than that.
It's not just the weight, it's that Khan hasn't done a damn thing at welterweight and has been chinny at every single weight he's fought at. That's not going to change when he fights a damn middleweight.
This is a fight where a bigger, stronger, more skilled middleweight with the stylistic advantage is fighting an unproven welterweight with a glass chin. It's terrible and people should be heavily criticizing the fight. It's like Sergey Kovalev fighting Martin Murray.
Spot on.
All that needs to be said really
Khan has the frame to move up and carry the weight well. He's not some tiny WW.

Yes because height means bigger? Has the Fame? You like how Lopez also looked next to Canelo.

Pretty sure canelo said 150 two years prior to the fight when his body was still growing
Canelo was eating grass for weeks to make weight ffs
Quit making excuses for floyd he was ped abusing knob who did whatever to gain the upper hand including becoming a catch weight King
After all the stick people like you have manny for having catch weights and now you defend this ****
If floyd was so great he would have fought canelo at his best which was 154 and he would not need to use peds which he pretty much got caught red handed using substances to cover it up
Im sorry did I offend you Mrs. Alverez? your poor mijo was still growing wasnt he? STFU your the only one making excuses and making up facts about when the negotiations were made and his diet. Were you a Paid memeber of his team back then? Didnt think so you were just one of his many sanchas gtfo here with that crybaby bs. You made yourself look like a complete moron with that post. Do you realize you're criticizing Floyd for 2 lbs while trying to defend Canelo for 8lbs lol your not the brightest bulb are you?
Lol @ canelo was drained to 152 from 154. He was not drained it was 2 lbs! He's a professional athlete not a aids victim 2lbs didnt make a differece and besides canelos teamed signed up to fight mayweather at 150 and floyd let him slide to 152 quit crying because your mexican ginger snaped got beat

Floyd couldn't even go up 7 pounds for Canelo from 147 to 154, he had to weight-drain him down to 152.
So you're basically saying Khan is Floyd's superior because he can handle the 8 pounds easy while Floyd's only shot was to weight-drain Canelo to 152?
Fair enough, we can roll with that.
