At least this is what is being told the some Jounralist... I won't name, names but you see why fans are talking. Jounralist (who supposedly know the sport) are referring to Hagler/Leonard when it comes to Khan/Canelo. You wonder who to blame for this huge occurrence of Khan/Canelo talk, this is why.
Journalist saying, "you don't know boxing history, look at Leonard/Hagler or DeLaHoya/Hopkins", or "This is an all action, all entertainment fight between to of the best at their weightclasses".
The next time you see a "journalist" suggest this fight is like Leonard/Hagler I suggest that be the last time you read anything from said "journalist".
Frankly, I'd expect guys like Rafael, dougie, kim etc. to be killing this fight and killing Canelo rather than selling this garbage as a viable fight.
It would be nice if boxing had caretakers like it used to.
This has absolutely no comparison to hagler - leonard and your spot on......for one leonard actually grew into a middlweight after 3 years inactivity....2nd prior to when leonard retired in 1982 he was the best p4p fighter in the world and had literally cleared out the welterweight division and had already won the WBA light middlweight title where as Khan has showed poor form and has been koed 2 times at light welterweight ..3rdly leonard had only lost 1 time on points to duran and avenged it straight after... 4th leonard actually boxed hagler at the 160 middlweight divison leonard weighed 158lbs and hagler was 158 1/2 with no catchweight and finally hagler and leonard was a true superfight where both fighters were considere the absolute best in boxing.....Mr Dunn if I heard that stupid reporter compare this to hagler - leonard I would have slapped the taste out of his mouth....it's an insult and a disgrace for a middlweight champion to call up a fighter two divsion below and has not boxed for over a year and shown nothing to deserve this shot.....shocking in my eyes
Almost every big fight is referred to as a modern day Hagler - Leonard, or Hagler - Hearns or Leonard - Duran, or Leonard - Hearns.
And every single damn time they are so wrong.
Norris was'nt that much bigger than Taylor. Terry was'nt even a big JMW. With the way cutting weight has gotten, Norris would probably be fighting at welterweight today, and he certainly would'nt be blowing up to 170+ on fight night. Can't say that about Canelo.
This is true. Norris even came in at 149 for that fight.
The scenarios are different but I can see the fight playing out the same way.Taylor had the speed advantage and had success early on moving in and out and putting punches together but ultimately Norris was able to walk through him and overpower him.
If I had a quarter for every time that someone said a fight would be the next Hagler/Hearns, I think I'd be pretty well off. That being said, that might be Khan's only chance, try to throw a lot, throw big, and hope to hurt him or something.

Said the CW will be the only difference and yes Canelo will blow up bigger then Norris. I remember seeing Norris as much bigger and stronger than Taylor and thinking how Taylor speed, his biggest asset just like Khan, wasnt there at this weight. Norris walked right through him and thats how i see this fight going.
Moment the fight was announced this is the fight i thought of
Taylor was at 140 before he moved up had a few fights at 147. Was a small WW when he accepted the challenge of the 154 champ (Norris) who was a much much bigger and stronger fighter. Yes the CW is the only difference but 154/155 same thing to me. Taylor had the speed that didnt really carry over and the power of Norris was to much. I see the as the same

why is everybody slagging of Canelo, really who the fuc* is Wad who GGG is fighting I am sure nobody can doubt that Khan is a bigger fight than Wade.
I never ever heard of him
How is a welterweight fighting a career junior middleweight, at a catchweight even remotely close to the same thing?
The point was probably that Meldrick Taylor was a naturally smaller boxer with fast hands that Terry Norris walked right through and stopped, which is probably how Canelo-Khan will go.
Canelo is "picking up the pennies" in his prime!!! That's sad, this kids people don't think much of him or their training knowledge if they continue to run from GGG!
He is capable of hanging with GGG in my opinion and a solid game plan could get him over the top. I see holes in GGG and he stills hasn't dealt with any stress.
I believe in challenging a talented boxer and other then Floyd this kid hasn't accepted any challenges!

Anyway this fight isnt like those cause number 1 those were legends and number 2 the skill level of those fighters were much higher (ATM) then these 2.
This fight is more like Meldrick Taylor v Terry Norris

Leonard was a big WW and an ATG.
Khan is a regular sized WW, and a middle of the pack one at that.
I get boxing people trying to sell the fight: a big viewing audience helps the sport and it's a big name fight. However, that audience are tuning in to a severe mismatch.
not to mention the public FIENDED for the Leonard and Hagler fight. Not one person asked for this fight to be made.

Sorry but some of those names are praising this fight.. Which should tell many how idiotic some of these journalist are...
I get that it was a surprise. I get it opens a new arena. That said, Khan is getting an opportunity like this coming off barely beating Algieiri. Yet none of them pointed this out.
Have you seen all 3 of those have been backtracking cause they all took major "L's" yesterday after this was announced.
Only some early responses that dan got. They deserve all the criticism they get.
Rafael was really disgusting. He was so aggressive toward anyone that said this wasn't a good fight. He was like a GBP cheerleader.
I could be wrong but if I remember correctly, Leonard fought over 147 a few times in his career long before the Hagler fight, I think he even had a fight at 160. Not only that, Leonard was a HUGE Welterweight especially by today standard so this Comparison absolutely FAILS in every way possible.
