Also OP I think you underrate Porter, he's got very good athleticism and good skill. When he uses his jab it's very crisp and sharp, he doubles up on it and causes the opponent fits. He's got very fast hands (when he's not throwing wide) and feet, the problem is his ring IQ lets him down sometimes, like Bradley, he gets carried away.
Watch the first few rounds of that for example, he's easily outboxing Diaz who's a decent fighter himself, then he loses discipline, abandons a gameplan that was working very well and gives Diaz a way back into the fight.
Porter has got quicker hands and feet than Thurman, but Thurman throws sharper, more accurate punches. Imo Porter should try off trying to box Thurman, if it doesn't work, go to plan B and try get inside, outwork him etc.
Porter has faster feet because he sacrifices his balance to get in quicker. Skill wise Pirter isn't in the same level as Bradley and isn't as natural of a fighter. So even though Bradley loses focus his superior fighting ability carries him through.
I don't think this fight will be close. Thurman knocks Shawn out mid fight.
Thurman is a wise kid... It's impossible not to like him.
I respect any athlete that talks the talk and walks the walk...thus far he has backed up his statements....."Don't duck me Thun, don't duck me thun!!!"
Hegives good interviews and for the most part he is accessible to his fans...I like his attitude and style....He is gonna hurt porter with those body shots and his counter shots....IDK but he always reminded me of a welterweight david Haye

He isn't outboxing any of the top ww because of his habit of getting carried away.
He is a good fighter, very basic, predictable. Thurman can improvise better with his punching and doesn't have to be set to throw like Porter. IF its not a jab then Porter has to be set to throw.
Diaz isn't a top welterweight and wasn't a top junior welterweight. Against Brook, Broner, and the better fighters he faced, Porter's jab was non-existent and wasn't a factor
You have to be gritty to beat Porter because he comes at you all night and just keeps throwing. Very basic but effective at times and if Thurman keeps getting caught, he'll keep losing points. It's as simple as that.
Like I said before the Brook fight, Porter is so basic, he'll get beat by any half decent, physically strong boxer, Brook was that guy. Thurman is a half decent boxer but is he physically strong enough? Or even mentally strong enough? From what I've seen, he doesn't like getting pushed back and since he has stepped up in competition, his power has been absent.
Porter has this, bank on it.
Porter losses. Too basic and easy to hit....Thurman has had some gut checks and past those tests.
Porter just doesn't present enough problems to pull out a win.
didn't thurman come down from 154 to 147?? he is doing the same, lots of this guys are doing the same
Thurman has always been a 147lb fighter. He was a welterweight in the amateurs. Has no problem making 147.
Thurman will turn this into a boring holding and running contest just like he did with....:poke:
Lol he could do that, issue is, unlike that other guy, Porter is young and fresh and prime.
you don't have to be gritty when you're not getting hit clean.
Showtime is strong but he is also predictable. I never understood why fighters bounce on their toes while standing in one spot...very bad habit...once youre feet leave the ground, you are more vulnerable to get caught off balance...Brook and others took advantage of this flaw and so will Thurman
Porter is strong but he isn't what I'd call a puncher. He grinds you down. Guerrero has better technique, a better jab and longer reach than Porter which is why he got some good work done working Thurman to the ropes and inside
Porter doesn't throw short enough punches and doesn't have a good enough jab to land enough to make it a punch up
If Thurman chooses to box, he clearly beats Porter....If he makes it a fight it will be closer but his athleticism, countepunching and bodypunching will keep Porter at bay long enough for him to eke out a tough decision

I think Porter beats him. Showtime is too physical, too busy and too tough although I feel that Thurman is the superior boxer. Having said that, Thurman is not gritty enough to beat Porter.

Interesting fight.
Brook showed how to comfortably deal with Porter, the jabs kept him on the outside, the power buzzed him several times and he didn't allow him to fight dirty inside.
Can Thurman do that? I dont believe so. I think it will be a much closer fight that swings back and forth.
Impressed with how well he speaks. Read he dropped out of high school.
Wonder if he ever went back to complete? Sounds like he could make quite a future for himself outside of the ring.
I like Porters drive to improve and his attitude, he stays in shape and works hard but outside of that he just doesn't show me anything that leads me to believe he can beat Thurman....Thurman is faster, hits harder, more elusive...they must know something about Porter I don't...I just don't see it
Well maybe he'll end up being this generations Cotto for me because I felt the same way about him in the early 2000s
lost some decent coin betting against him with Mosley and Judah years ago.
the thing is though, Porter doesn't have the power, hand speed or coordination of Cotto who is an overall better fighter
