I ask because I've heard many different fighters managed by Haymon say things like "It's up to Al Haymon and my team". But I've also heard some of them say things like "I fight who I want to fight, I choose my fights".
Does it all just depend on who the boxer is and how big his following is?
Look at Khan for instance, is he being sit out to try on his own volition? I'm sure Al has suggested fights for him to take only to be shot down by Khan.
Floyd is a Haymon managed fighter and he chooses exclusively who he wants to fight.
I don't think he does actually. If you read between the lines in some of his interviews like when he was asked why he chose Marquez he goes on to say "Al Haymon and Leonard Ellerbe have done a remarkable job with my career". He was trying to say that Marquez was chosen for him.
How does this thread have anything to do with #48 getting schooled?
you said Floyd chooses his fight.
that neither a fact nor logical.
you were exposed and just like a typical genius floyd fan being exposed they either result to insulting or deflecting.
haymons chooses who his fighter fights.
he is an adviser, and if they don't heed to his advice off they go.
thread ends here.
exactly, I honestly believe haymon made mayweather face berto cause haymon been trying to give berto the mayweather fight for the longest now probably a favor to berto for berto being haymon first fighter.
Berto was not Haymon's first fighter though...
Like many others, I have also heard two different methods when finding opponents for Haymon adviced fighters. One was the infamous list of names and the other was the fighter picking out his foes and having Haymon set it up. However, if I recall correctly... Haymon can still shut down certain fights and no fight goes through without his confirmation. It was in his contract, which is rather revealing and exposes just how in control he really is of all his fighters. He can shelf them, he can make them turn down pay days, he can steer them away from dangerous opponents, etc.. Which defeats the whole "I choose my opponents" stand that certain Haymon fighters claim to posses.

I'll quote Angel Garcia, Danny garcias father and trainer.
"Al haymon picks them
I train him
And Danny fights them"
If haymon fighters have a choice is a very limited one.
did Floyd chose Pac? or was he forced to fight him?
your facts and logic is fraud and flawed higher yearning.

Haymon should get his own promotional license (he's already thought out the name, Haymon Boxing). His venture could be successful with good promoters and advisers like Schaefer.
I've heard different stories. For example you have Thurman who says he usually get's about 3 names to choose from and I know Abner Mares has said something along the lines of you pick who you want to fight. Then you have the other side where it seems like Leo Santa Cruz fights whomever Al tells him to. Sounds like it just depends on the fighter if Al makes the first and final decision or makes a recommendation and they choose.
Leo Santa Cruz's Padre, and then later, Haymon was said to also nix a match with Rigondeaux. Oscar was about to make the fight when Haymon bout Santa Cruz out of his contract. According to Stephen Edwards, his Charge has a fairly free pick of opponents. The problem is that the other PBC guys in his weight class refuse to fight him.
I think he has someone that does the work for him. It could be Watson, Schaeffer etc. He gets a list of available names that are PBC friendly, and submits them to the fighter. The fighter picks a name and then a deal is attempted to be reached. If the first choice falls through, then the fighter has to make a second choice etc...
Now I would assume that is mainly just for the fighters on the upper standing, the higher tier fighters, as for the rest they get offered a fight with such and such, and if they decline they have to wait who knows how long. It is like any other promotional outfit. The stars get the choices, the opponents have to take what they can get.
Sounds reasonable enough...
So I wonder how Haymon comes up with the choices then?
Like, where did he pull Salka out from? Maybe he has a lead matchmaker for PBC?

Of course fighters can pick who thye want out of a list haymon gives them ultimately its still haymon decision one way or another you just picked one of the option he put out for you.
Exactly. Whether haymon gives you a list of 2 names, 1 name or 3 names to choose. Same result you can only fight that guy or guys. Don't matter who you want if they not on the list even if that's the fight people want or even if those guys are also haymon fighters and available.
Thurman on record saying he got one name on his list and it was Collazo and he had to fight him even though that's not who he wanted.
Al gives them names and they choose from there; or they say who they want to fight and it goes from there also They have all said he won't force you to fight anybody.

Thurman said he's surprised to find he was only given one choice in the Collazo fight. Don't know if that meant he's the one who picked his previous fights. I also don't know if he's the one who picked Bundu, and avoided Alexander, who openly stated at that time that he'll fight Thurman. All these things can be clarified if only the media go deeper. They can simply ask him who those other choices were in the Bundu pick, for instance.
