Well, isn't Lil G supposed to be the big "PPV star" who is endorsed by Apple and Jordan?
His fans seem to think 97k is a big number for PPV, so maybe they're the ones convincing these folks that they need to get paid to fight this "PPV king".
It means that GGG really has no leverage. Now that everyone knows that they need a lower tier opponent to stay busy while they wait on Canelo then whoever GGG and K2 approach for a fight next year knows that GGG has limited options and will use that as leverage in negotiations. Its not like they can't make the same amount of money fighters less risky opponents so why take the risk unless they get a career payday? It won't be a PPV fight so no chance of upside.
IMO boxing fans are the worst and have helped shape modern day boxing to what it is. Boxing fans would leave you to believe if a fighter takes a loss against another good fighter, then they must be "bums" and lose their marketability and their future.
No wonder these fighters outprice themselves in risky fights-the same risky fights that us boxing fans demand they take, but shoot them down if the risk was taken and they fell short.
More-so than ever in the last 10 years we have heard more and more about the "business side" of boxing (now the ever so popular coin phrase "A-side, B-side is a common phrase to either find a way out of a fight or dictate unfair terms to get a fight)-and this is because in one loss the fans turn on fighters and they get a much smaller pay-scale to fight .The promoters of this sport have caught on to this as well and have now guided and guarded their fighters from heavy risk-to the point where major promoters have matchmakers and know the odds of success....thank yourselves boxing fans.
Saunders is a nobody. GGG has never made more than $2 million for a fight and that is about all GGG would get to fight Alvarez. Saunders would be lucky to get $1 million to fight Alvarez or Cotto and they pay their opponents much more than GGG. The maximum Saunders would get to fight GGG is $500,000.
You understand why he asked for that much right? because he doesn't want to fight him. Mayweather/Pac opponents don't make that much.
Saunders, the guy who just won the WBO middleweight title

So far it means Team GGG/HBO don't believe their guy can be a big enough draw to justify decent purse money. Canelo and Cotto made well over $5m to fight each other.
If GGG is going to be a star, his promotional and television team are going to have to invest. Otherwise we'll get more GGG-Monroe type fights.
If you wanna play, you have to get in the sandbox.
This is big-boy boxing, gotta pay big-boy purses.
Bro, what are you talking about? Obviously, no one is getting paid $5million dollars to fight GGG. Guys aren't getting that much to fight ANYONE right now. Mayweather was the world's biggest draw in history and the only opponents to make over $5m against him were Canelo, Cotto and Pac. There are literally 4 people (3 if you consider Floyd retired) in this world that command that kind of payday against anyone. Cotto and Canelo's next opponents won't make that kind of a payday either. Don't be a moron.
Anyone asking for that kind of money is pricing themselves out, plain and simple.
They are ready to sell the belt for good money, I don't blame them look what happen to that boyband Monroe.
What happened to him? He took a shot at beating the man in the division and now because his management team apparently blows and can't get him a fight it's bad they he took the gamble on fighting GGG?
What does it mean when the MW champions say they want to be payed at least 5 millions to fight GGG? Or others ask for a CW?
I haven't seen so much blatant disgraceful ducking of one fighter before. Insane.
