Textual words:
Creo que me voy a retirar, no quiero pelear más. Está casi decidido y no depende de nadie. Tal vez en un futuro próximo voy a anunciarlo oficialmente.
Translation: I think I'm retiring, I don't want to fight anymore. It's almost decided and it doesn't depend on anyone. Maybe in the near future I will announce it officially.

More of the interview: "I am retiring. I don't want to box anymore. It's mostly finished. The majority of everything is already decided and the decision isn't dependent on anything. I will announce my retirement in the near future. I am leaving very happy and grateful. I thank God for having given me this opportunity in life. I don't think I have anything left. I have given everything I could. My most satisfying victories were against Victor Ortiz and Adrien Broner because everyone had already written me off. But I couldn't beat him . I have invested all the money I have won. I am doing things that give me good money and I don't need to fight again."
So to those saying he will be back for money, more than likely not. Also, Robert Garcia said that money in ARG is 10x more than in the US and Robert Garcia said he made over 100 million ARG cash, that means he got paid over $10 million when adding both Floyd bouts. So who knows exactly how much.
Yeah, $1 dollar is 13 peso in Argentina, but everything is adjusted for inflation in those countries. Like for example cost of living, like a $750 USD apartment in Argentina would be 10,000 pesos there i'm sure. I could be wrong, but money from the US or Euro are not exactly more in other countries, they're just worth more but cost of living is adjusted still.
See this website for an example:
https://www.expatistan.com/cost-of-living/buenos-aires
900sq ft apartment rent: 13,000 pesos
meal: 91 pesos
2 liter coca cola: 28 pesos
utilities for 1 month: 782 pesos
40 inch flat screen tv: 9,202 pesos
Laundry detergent: 147 pesos
Microwave: 2866 pesos
And so on...
So yeah, USD is not 10x more in Argentina like, your money will do a lot more for you there. Just that instead of buying a 2 liter coke for $2 dollars here in US, in Argentina their equivalent is 28 pesos, which is still $2 dollars or so. No difference really.
He could have made even more money. Even though he lost to Floyd, his stock was up after beating Broner and the two Floyd fights and he was probably the best he's ever been.
But if he's content then good for him.
Did he really made that much more in his Mayweather fights? Enough to retire? Damn no wonder everyone and their mama wants to fight TBE.
He probably made close to 5 million for both fights, which is enough money for anyone to retire on.
He could make stable investments and live a modest life. He could buy up farm land, or invest in another business, and live off the money that generates.
To be honest, most fighters could move to a developing country and retire from boxing with about £250k in the bank.
Anyway, good for Maidana. He got where he was by fighting his ass off in every fight. He accomplished far more than I expect him to. It's always a pleasure to watch him fight, so he will be missed, but I respect his decision to hang em up.

Good luck to him, great fighter and someone I have respect for. Knows when to go out and look after his family, himself and his money. Hope he enjoys the fruit of his hard work. Hope to see more boxers like this.
I wanted Maidana vs Cotto at 154. But it seems that we won't get that fight :/
Would have loved that fight.
Danny garcia
Thurman
Porter
Khan 2
Broner 2
Alot of other fights as well that I wish we could've gotten.

Sucks if true..
Maidana leaving a lot of cash on the table.. He should have been this era's Mayorga and be the b-side to every major fighter and get paid well.. Mayorga fought forrest twice, mosely twice, tito, cotto, Oscar, n Vargas..
Maidana should be cashing out vs guys like
Manny
Marquez
Canelo
cotto
Or even
Khan 2
Bradley
Thurman
Brook
Lucas
Porter
Danny
Tons of big money fights left for maidana
have you seen him lately? he's massive! he's been eating that world class argentinian beef. those guys eat more beef, per capita, than any other nation. nobody comes close! chino has been fattening on that grass fed beef.
he's not getting back to 147 lbs, lol. it would take him a year to lose the weight. he might never lose it. he might make 154, but even then he'd be doing most of the work just losing weight, and his style isn't good for fighting bigger gys.
i respect his decision. he's made plenty of money for a comfy retirement.
I don't follow the fighter's money trail....but I would like to know what did Chino net in his two fights against Floyd?!?....did those two fights set him for life?
well, in the first fight i truly he was paid off over the gloves. made a 1.5 million garantee, IIRC, and ppv upsides are raraely, if ever, made public after the buys come out.
then he made 3 million in the rematch. again, not sure about ppv money, but floyd's obviously taking the lion's share of it.
add those paydays with all of his purses from the past in main events, such as alexander, khan, lopez, ortiz others, and he's a very, very wealthy man in argentina.
Is this a legit source? If it is and he is retiring good for him he most have made great $ from the Floyd bouts
he made a lot of money and he's retiring in argentina, where i'm sure he can buy a lot of land and property and live without working for the rest of his life. a million dollars in argie goes a heck of a lot longer than it does in manhattan, or las vegas.
the beef down there is unf#cking real. second highest mountain range in teh world. beautiful women. absolutel gorgeous girls down there. rolling farms in the valleys. good wine country. argie is paradise, from what i hear.
