just want to say a big F*ck.
this really sucks.
being a boxing fan is hard at this time lol
watching ufc get all the fights they want made,
fights lived up to the hype
while boxing's biggest fights were filled with disappointments..
and the worst part is, some of our biggest names are still sayin **** like theyre mayweather... thinking they aer some kinda super elite fighter with ultimate A-side-demands...
FCK!!!!!!
somebody make some noise in boxing :'(
edit:
basically, im jealous how ufc is run so well. boxing meh.
if only everyone would take a step back, risk their 0s, then everyone would be better and happier in the LONG RUN.
This! 100% correct.
I love boxing but I am tired of watching boxing prospects pad their records by fighting a string of bums and journeymen. And then after 20 or 30 fights try their best to avoid another top fighter. Boxing has become risk mitigation while UFC puts the best against the best early on. Take Conor McGregor for example - he will probably face Frankie Edgar next or fight the undisputed LW champ. No easy fights.

Exactly , guys need to face each other when they are at their best .. Boxing needs to at least start there ..
In the last 8 years how many times has boxing beaten UFC total PPV buys? Yes, with May Pac figured, boxing did very well in 2015. But everyone knows that was a one time thing. UFC has reliable numbers, boxing does not. Is there even a single legit PPV star left once Pac leaves? Maybe Canelo.
The point is UFC makes a lot of money and is very healthy. Can't say the same about PBC that has lost tens of millions and for HBO and SHO who constantly evaluate how worthwhile or profitable boxing is.
No one said its this overwhelming dominant force, but UFC does make a lot of money.
Anyone can play than game. Take out RR and Conor fights and how many PPVs did UFC sell? All UFC has is one PPV star as well. Most UFC cards sell around 200k if they're lucky.
Add in Showtime, PBC, HBO and the boxing viewership dwarfs UFC in viewership even here in good old "boxing is dead" USA. And I was into UFC before I got into boxing. UFC might get more pub on TMZ but boxing is still waaaaaay bigger.

Based on my early projections, the skull comparisons are pretty close.
McGregor-Aldo did well over a million and Aldo was an unknown to the American and Irish public.
Bet on TBE returning in May and his opponent will be Conor McGregor.
According to who? Promoters always lie about the PPV numbers that their promotions do. If Dana White says the fight sold 1.2 million PPVs, that means it actually sold 700,000.

UFC fighters get paid peanuts for risking brain damage and death. They have no say over who they fight or when (ex: Holly Holm being told that she must fight Ronda Rousey in a rematch in July 2016 and not given the option of taking another fight before that rematch). If that is your idea of being run well, then the UFC is the best run corporation in the world.
However, if you are a person who thinks fighters should get paid what they deserve and have some say over who they fight and when, you do not think the UFC is run well.

A lot of people act like this is a bad thing, but they ***** all day about the choices guys make so its ironic in that regard. And when you think about it what professional competitive sport do the athletes decide who they are gonna compete against any damn way?
The Patriots aren't making their own schedule every year. MLB teams don't make their own schedule. NBA teams either. Tennis & golf seem to have a tournament type format so the better you are the deeper you go in events & the better the caliber of opponents you end up playing against. In boxing the best guy in the world can fight anyone they want. Thats kinda f#cking stupid.
I love boxing, I respect boxers more than any athletes in the sports world, but I think boxers have far too much freedom & I think its hurting the greater good of the sport.
Well there's a reason UFC's "champions" and prospects get smashed every other fight. They throw their top stars in with killers their 5th fight and they lose badly and lose all their marketability
I hear you man I do. I love all of those boxers but they aren't Conor. It's simple math. Conor is on pace to be the biggest draw in the history of combat sports. His next ppv fight is predicted to break 3 million buys.
Predicted by who?
I will bet you everything I have his next ppv doesn't do over 3 million ppv buys.
Boxing is my love always has been always will be but it's an inferior sport of the past. Boxing doesn't have a Conor McGregor or a Jon Jones.
Jon Jones isn't even in the promotion anymore. He was suspended for Coke then H&R a pregnant woman.
Well one thing in the UFC fans aren't held hostage into waiting on the best to fight the best .Guys can't cherry pick or wait 5 yrs to give the fans the fight they want.. it's prime vs prime and that's how it should be in boxing!
This! 100% correct.

How can you mention May Pac in the same sentence? Connor Aldo was a million times better. The card had some great fights on it, not just the Conor fight. May Pac whole card was bull****.
And no, UFCs numbers are insanely good. It's a money making machine. Love it or hate it, that is the truth. UFC gives consistent good product and the fans turn out. The yearly PPV numbers for UFC is amazing.
LOL WTF are you talking about. In 2014 UFC sold the fewest PPV's since 2006. 2015 was better but boxing still sold 1-2mm more PPVs than UFC did this year.
You guys act like UFC is this overwhelming dominant force. Boxing is still far far more popular than UFC.
Depends on how big the stars are, Mcgregor certainly can pick his fights, Dana said as much. Mcgregor can either go to 155 and immediately fight Cerrone or stay at 145 and fight Frankie. Also Dana White often doesn't decide he has a 'UFC matchmaker'
To compare the purses to boxing is different the sport is so young and they stack their cards. To equate it to boxing you had the biggest fight that could be made in the sports atm Mcgregor vs Aldo (for lack of a comparison say that would be Mayweather Pacquiao.) You had the middleweight champion fighting the next best guy on the undercard that would be Golovkin vs. Canelo. Under that was the number 2 & 3 ranked middleweights so in boxing that would be Saunder/Lee winner vs. Jacobs. Under that is the 6th vs 10th ranked fighters (depends on where you look) at Welterweight that would probably be Porter vs. Errol Spence. Then you had a bunch of preliminary fights one of which had Urijah Faber a top class Bantamweight in a stay busy fight against the 14th ranked fighter.
That is ONE card, one night of boxing. If that happened in boxing consistently then fighters purses would be less because of having to spread the money around but that card alone would be the best boxing card of the last 5-10 years easily. That is why the UFC is having so much success.
They only let him pick because no matter what he is gonna take a tough fight in frankie edgar or move up 10lbs and face the champion at 155 dos anjos or cerrone.
Really you though Aldo-MacGregor lived up to the hype?
It would have been like if May had knocked out Pac in the first twenty seconds of the first round.
UFC is in dire straits in reality. Their biggest star was just absolutely wrecked and she has disappeared. Boxing is poised for a much bigger 2016 than UFC
And once an MMA fighter comes along who understand his market value, he will come out and say how much he wishes that MMA was more of a free market like boxing.
Which is what McGregor might be about to do. As much as I hate it at times, I believe there is a reason why the fight game has to operate the way it does. The UFC is young and has so far been able to keep control of these guys, but they haven't had a transformative figure who will challenge their status quo. That will be interesting to watch unfold
As far as I can tell the promoters like White run MMA and tell the fighters who they will fight and the fighters don't dare say no. So any fight the promoters want to make they make. In boxing the fighters are much better paid and can and often do turn fights down. You have the different networks like HBO and Showtime having many boxers under contract and not allowed to fight on any other network.

Agreed. Green K sent.
The level of talent and skill is so much greater in MMA than boxing. So that's why you'll see guys with a couple of loses. Plus the smaller gloves. Really MMA has most of the real hittas out there.
I mean did you guys see McGregor and Rockhold? Boxing unfortunately doesn't have that level of athlete.
All due respect, head over to Sherdog forums and say the same thing. MMA is such a young sport, the skill level isn't anywhere near boxings, you need more skills in MMA but they are less refined because of the age of the sport really.
There was actually a thread on Sherdog about boxing just having a hundred years of refinement and that the skills on show are much better. I love MMA, I love the UFC, it is run 100000x better than boxing but it is so, so young. We are watching the literal development of a sport as the years go by. There will be a point in many, many years where people will look back at what is happening with some of the UFC fighters now the way some of use look at the way Langford, Jack Johnson etc. fight and see that evolution. I mean you only have to go back to see Gracie and look at how todays fighters would wreck him even though he is a UFC legend.

I mean did you guys see McGregor and Rockhold? Boxing unfortunately doesn't have that level of athlete. They are different sports with different skills required. Some MMA fights are very skillful but I don't agree they are more skillful than the best boxers. The best pro boxers are much better paid than any MMA fighter as per Mayweather making 200million for one fight. If you have the talent to be great at either sport you will almost always chose boxing because it pays so much better. I have seen many MMA fights were they just box for 3 5minute rounds with little or no kicking or wrestling. While the MMA fighters have some boxing skills their skills and punching power don't remotely compare with the boxing skills and punching power of a good pro boxer. The are just vastly inferior to a good pro boxer in boxing skills and punching power. They might beat a good boxer in a mixed match but only by getting the boxer on the ground. The biggest fight in MMA history was won by Conner using a powerful boxing blow.
I am a long time boxing fan but I find myself watching more MMA fights as their fighters keep getting better and better. I like Conner a lot. He can really fight including good boxing skills and punching power.
