I don't mind the division ranking on boxrec, they are generally pretty decent although there are odd issues where certain counties (like South African welterweights) have an insulated group that fights among themselves and have inflated numbers based on those fights.
P4P is just a bridge too far for their ranking system, it is totally subjective and can not be done by formula.
Last 5 wins:
Lara, Trout, Cotto, Kirkland, Angulo > Murray, Lemiuex, Monroe, Rubio, Geale.
Boxrec is crazy, I don't use it for rankings, I actually completely ignore it. But if anyone ranking system were to put Canelo over Golovkin I would applaud it. Canelo does have better wins. Golovkin wins in better fashion, albeit versus worse opposition. Which is what P4P rankings go by now, HOW you look and win rather WHO you beat. If we are talking about who you beat, it would actually be nuts to put Golovkin over Canelo. The guy GGG has a novice resume, Canelo has a veteran resume.
i mean, he handled cotto with some semblance of ease. surely that's better than anything chocolatito, GGG or kovalev have done.
one or 2, it doesn't matter. chocolatito has gallo on his resume and canelo has cotto. i've got no problem with it.
:ThinkingoHacked?!
I could the argument for Kovalev - based solely on his opposition but not Fury and GGG. Fury's only signature win is over Klitschko
Fury beating Wlad is better than anything Canelo has ever done. Complete bs. He is not even top 5
I wouldn't call that "calling a fight".You ridiculed him.Nothing in there to say he was going to get beat off Fury
What I called is that he was nowhere near the top10 p4p list.
The lose to Fury was just a consecuence of that. He could not clinch/bully Fury. But it was an awful fight. None of both are top quality. Fury doesn't belong to the top 10 either, that's my point too. I'm not saying he's a bum but no way he's in the list.
You think Wlad was the p4p #1 fighter??? haha. He wasn't even top 10. He was a lie, a fouler, clincher, etc. He wasn't that good at all.
Do you want to know my opinion about Wlad? see this http://www.boxingscene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=689810

TYSON????? TYSON FURY!!!!!?????????????
You've got to be kidding me.
No,not really.
Fury just defeated the p4p #1 fighter.
That was my thinking...But then again Klitschko was shot m8.

Well done, but the likes of Dan Rafael had Wlad as p4p #1 as did many others.

I don't think that should necessarily make you p4p #1.
I don't either, but it's not ridiculous to see Fury's name with the likes of GGG & Kovalev. Fury has a better win than any of them.

But I do think it would be fair for him to make the list. The Ring should have popped Yamanaka off after his fight with Moreno anyway, Fury could be on the list somewhere.
The criteria used may not be a good indicator of what its trying to measure.
Using the strength of the resume is a great way of measuring accomplishments, but it has little to do with a fighter's p4p ranking, which is an attempt to measure a fighter's worth if everyone weighted the same.
As a simple example, when #1 and #2 ranked fighters fight each other, the loser often drops down several spots, but it truly has nothing to do with other fighters.
The criteria can be appropriate and objective but still not be measured or weighted in a way that makes for a logical ranking. It makes sense that aspects of a fighter's resume would be used to determine their P4P status but it is not a given how that should actually be computed. Canelo got a lot more points than would seem logical for Lopez and Mosley - sure it's objective to say he won those fights but it isn't obvious how much those wins should matter. Trout and Cotto on the other hand were genuinely good wins, but I don't think they should make him the P4P #1.
What's wrong with a system that uses objective criteria?
