Cotto did well to avoid the brunt of the follow-up here
I have been a Canelo fan since I first saw him when KOed Cotto's brother. I have made lots of money betting on him. I have always thought he was badly underrated and unfairly disliked or hated on this board. Finally some are starting to realize what a good fighter he is. His haters like to call him ginger as if having red hair made this good looking man a freak. They call him hypejob and say he only fights smaller guys or old men and washed up fighters. They say he can't fight at all and is full of flaws. They say he has no stamina and terrible foot work and he can't cut off the ring. They say he has a weak chin because Cotto's brother staggered him when he was 19 years old. Now they rarely call him hypejob or ginger and it's getting through their thick sculls that he really is a damn good fighter and he is for real. The Mexican fans have always known how good he is and now the rest of the world is starting to appreciate him. It's about time.
Straight out of the Mayweather book. Looks like he learned a trick or two.
Wow someone oughta do a side by side comparison. Canelo must be a saiyan or somn. Every fight he seems to improve. :boxing:
Cotto's instinct has always been to crouch(lower his center of gravity) when he feels a punch coming from above and ups his guard to cover his temples. That's why he's always been a sucker for uppercuts, especially when they're set up by a previous overhand....be it a real punch or feint....difficult to correct him becuse of the way he's always held his hands when fighting.
Margarito did the same just by following up right hands with uppercuts....
This is why regardless of Canelo's lack of activity, he clearly won......almost no quality punches from Cotto...the highlights are basically all canelo. Cotto didn't land enough to steal rounds.
Yeah man I always figured the uppercut was going to be a huge key for this fight. Roach never really had a chance to correct that based on the opposition they had been facing.
This wasn't that great of a fight. Good fight but not a fight I would watch again anytime soon. These "highlights" prove there weren't any special moments in the fight. I'm not impressed with Canelo's win. Not a single KD in the fight and Canelo was landing flush. He beat a past it Cotto. A JMW Cotto masquerading as a MW while he came into the fight as a LHW and couldn't even knock him down. We've seen a better version of Cotto get beat by decisions before. If Canelo is special he should've finished what Margarito and Pacquiao started. Cotto has never been a mover but he moved well enough in this fight. Movement still bothers Canelo. Sorry but I'm not impressed by a prime Canelo getting a decision over a past it Cotto.
Brilliant.
Great fight, scorecards were terrible, what a shame. Watching it live on ****ty stream, I was concentrating more on heineken and talking to my friends than on fight it self, but it looked to me like Cotto was winning. Than I just re-watched it, I can say there were some very close rounds, but after seeing it again I can fully agree that Canelo won it. I had it 7-4 for Canelo, with one round even. Canelo won a lot of exchanges. However very very good performance from Cotto, too.
Same exact move as the one he ended the Angulo fight and where he cut Lara up. Beautiful set up, you would've expected Roach would've had Cotto ready for that.
Roach is a **** trainer. So no I didn't expect that. "We don't watch tape of our opponents, we just train our style and the fighter has to adjust to us" :pat:
It's called styles, Margarito had no other choice but to walk through fire to get to Cotto because he didn't possess the talent to do anything else, fortunately for him he possessed one of the better chins that division has ever seen and that helped him in getting the victory.
Pacquiao will never, I repeat, never have much problems with a fighter who doesn't possess a right hand, so long as Pacquiao can slip the jab (Which he did easily) Pacquiao was going to look great. That's Pacquiao, an ATG.
Canelo neutralized Cotto the best way he knew how and it worked perfectly. Did so in his unique way, I actually enjoyed it and thought Canelo has never looked better.

Damn look at that GIF. What is Cotto doing?! Canelo is so so SO much better than what he is credited for. What a great performance, his shot selection, set-up and execution are great. This was a great fight i was impressed with Cotto too, what a warrior!

Dead on. I think one of the things people don't understand about Canelo is he isn't a come forward fighter. Sure he came forward vs Cotto, but that's not his nature.
He's a counter puncher by trade, and I think that against a skilled boxer he will be more careful in his approach. If he would have come forward more, took more chances, I do think he stops Cotto. He just won't risk it, but I agree, he looked really good Saturday night.
Those are some beautiful gifs.
Canelo just couldn't miss with those uppers, it's like they were glued to Cotto's face
He's been pulling off Mayweather moves since before he fought him. Kid is slick.
It's a shame he has cement feet doe
cement feet and crappy stamina doe
if it wasn't for those flaws, he'd be an utter beast. I'd fancy his chances against GGG if that was the case
he really needs to work on his stamina, that flaw that can still be corrected, unlike the other one
