He was labeled a fake MW and accused of holding the belt hostage so people were clamoring for him to just vacate the title. Now that he has, he's a duck?
For the people who call him a duck, what do you think would happen if he did fight GGG (assuming he beats Canelo)? He'd probably get slaughtered, right?
Why the hell would you want to watch GGG fight an over the hill, past his prime fighter who's MUCH smaller than he is? And why would Cotto just offer himself as a sacrificial lamb to the slaughter? The guy is at the end of his career and has been through many wars. The only possible outcome I can see for a fight against GGG is a KO loss, and he'll suffer lots of punishment in the process. You think he's gonna fight a monster like GGG just to appease some delusional keyboard warriors?
Seems like you just can't win on NSB. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. He drops his title like people demanded here, now he's a coward. :lol1:
I guess the only solution to appease everyone was for him to just walk into the lion's den and take an ass whooping from a much larger man.

Wait...isn't GGG ridiculously overrated? He hasn't beat any decent fighers?
So why shouldn't an old veteran who holds the MW title go ahead and show the world that he's the REAL man at middleweight? Should be an easy win for a guy like Cotto, who's faced great fighters like Mayweather and Pacquaio. And he'd pick up some more belts.
I'm not sure. Doesn't seem like Cotto cares to prove himself against a small, irrelevant player like Golovkin.
But I'm totally OK with Cotto dropping the belt. I think he did it in a clever way, with clever timing. (The rules have been in place all along; both sides in the fight knew all about the fees long ago....it's interesting that Cotto suddenly discovered the fee.)
I think the discussion is kind of premature till he actually beats Canelo. Cotto has achieved too much to pay for belts on the eve of his retirement (which I suspect is imminent.)
Group 2 is clearly stating you...
First off you're a Khan fanboy then you turn coat and change guards to Kell Brook as soon as Khan loses.
You never said anything about the Frankie Gavin fight, never said anything about the Jo Jo Dan fight, oh my what a hypocrite do you not get sick of making a complete tit out of yourself?
Really is little excuse for those type of fans, you've got to be 12yo at best when will you jump off the Brook bandwagon?
"Writing essays" :lol1:
As soon as Khan loses? Khan got obliterated by Prescott when he was a prospect.....if you're going to make something up, at least TRY to make sense lol
Completely agree and you're one of the worst examples of a Group 2 fan :lol1:

he should have vacated a year ago when ggg was made the mandatory. instead he paraded around calling himself the middleweight champ fighting drained fighters like geale and in turn stalled ggg's career by not letting him fight for a belt he wants.
GGG accepted a step-aside fee if I'm not mistaken so he can't have wanted the belt that badly.

GGGs career was no way stalled, lmao. He shouldn't depend on a past prime best days at 147 fighter who is smaller than him. GGG has belts already, I'm sure his career is perfectly fine.
It shows that there are two different fans of the sport
1.) real boxing fans with common sense, who want to see the best fight the best and see the moxt exciting fights, see real warriors in the ring
2.) the fanboys who only care about safety for their favourite fighter and just hate on other fighters all day long, they care about business and money, not pride or warrior mentality
Group #2 is slowly destroying the sport that they pretend to love
Cotto was a good fighter back then but he turned into a selfish, arrogant diva. If you support this behaviour just because of your hatred towards another fighter who just wants to unify the division then you are not a real boxing fan, you are an irrelevant fanboy.
The more boxing turns into a business with some fighters being allowed to duck competition, get all the advantages and catchweights they want, thats not a good direction the sport is taking.
Imagine if some boxers/judoka/wrestlers would be allowed to fight at catchweight during the next olympic games because they have a bigger name.

Great post, If Cotto wasn't at all at 160 and never fought there and never held a belt there then people would have a point to defend him but fact is he fought several times there and is fighting a guy who is around similar size to Golovkin.
Its not particularly the catchweights that bother me its just the blatant lies and bull**** which you can't even deny that some sad little trolls on here try to defend because they're blinded with their own bias and hate.

Yeah, shame on us for wanting to see the best fight in the division.
You'd think Cotto was a war hero the way people act about him, they will defend him at any cost completely ignoring the fact about how much he earns yet they're like
"Durrr he deserved it doe"
He needs to vacate the lineal title as well. Announce that he's a jrmw and not a mw. Quit showing off the ring mw title like he's the champ. What he's been doing is fighting at catch weights above the jrmw limit so he can technically defend the mw title. Quit that ***** too then we're good
Not arsed. I don't know why people are getting upset about it.
If Cotto had won, he wasn't going to fight Golovkin anyway. He's probably going to retire or try to get a Mayweather fight.

He does this at the last possible second after he used the WBC Super MW title to sell the fight and as leverage to getting a solid % of the profits from this PPV.
Why do it at the last possible second, why wait until the last minute this fight with Canelo would have sold as a PPV regardless of a title involved but not only did Cotto lie to everyone he used the belt as a pathetic means of getting more $$, pure greed from this disgusting dishonest individual.
Over the hill, past his best... Oh I thought he was rejuvenated under Freddie Roach but now you're saying he's past his best?
Which one is it.
Seems more like you're happy with defending a guy who is earning 10's upon 10's of millions of dollars whilst giving him absolutely no flack for this B.S. people in day to day life do more dangerous things for less this is the hurt business and it is in no way a sport you should be ripping off the fans.
Last point Canelo and GGG are around the same size :dunce::dunce:

I don't like it to be honest, he's deprived the best 160 in the world, a guy who could be an ATG if someone would just step up and fight him, a shot at glory AGAIN! Cotto didn't vacate he was derecognised so he didn't make the move himself.
Who will we have for the vacant belt? If Cotto wins will the WBC put it on the line when GGG fights Andy Lee?

Then why go fight for a 160lb championship if you have no intent on defending it.
I don't know if people are pissed...its just annoying behavior.
Cotto is acting like he is taking some kind of righteous stand against the greed of sanctioning bodies, which would be cool....But he's not. He is simply ego-hurt that the WBC wouldn't negotiate a lower fee with him at the last minute, or he just wants to get rid of the whole GGG mandatory thing because he knows he will never face him...its probably a little bit of both.
It's also extra annoying that Cotto is claiming the WBC wants 1.1Million from him.. the $800,000 step aside fee goes to Golovkin, not the WBC. That was Cotto's decision to pay him to step aside.
/ of thread! You're absolutely correct!
If Cotto was planning to vacate anyway, then why try and negotiate a smaller fee? The sanctioning fee has NOTHING to do with paying GGG his step aside fee of $800k. If Cotto didn't want to pay that then he should had fought him instead.
Yes. We wanted Cotto to vacate the title. NO, we did not want Cotto to vacate the title 5-days before one of the biggest fights of his life, in which the title was involved in.
His ass will be beaten for that. Trust me.
