Dont get me wrong, I am still ordering the fight this weekend but I cant help but notice after it was made pretty clear that Cotto and Canelo dont really have an interest in fighting GGG (catchweight aside) and the recent BS the WBC is pulling by making the title at stake for 1 freaken fighter. It has kinda taken the momentum away from a great rivalry fight with huge implications. I know casual fans will watch the fight but I think most hardcore fans will be left with the same question they had before the fight regardless of who wins and thats, "ok, now whats going to happen?" Am I the only one that isnt to excited about a fight of this magnitude? What do you think?
I don't worry too much about what either guy will do after but it would add a lot more spice if we knew the winner would fight GGG.
Either way, i watch boxing to be entertained and i'm sure on fight night i will be looking forward to watching it, but i haven't really given it a second thought right now and probably won't until the event starts.
It is a great fight between two very good fighters and it's as good now as it ever was. I think they took too long to actually have the fight. They should have already had this fight two months ago. I think they announced this fight almost 6 months ago and everybody was very excited about it. It's hard to stay pumped up for anything for that long. They didn't need nearly this much time to promote this fight to the max. The fight was a natural and pretty much promoted it's self. I can hardly wait for this fight and I am sick of waiting.

Belt on the line for only one guy and no buzz whatsoever in the world at large. This fight will tank.
I'm still really looking forward to it. It's probably the fight i've been looking forward to most this year.
I don't think the news of Cotto being stripped changes too much. The winner facing Golovkin was definitely exciting, and for me, welcomed news. But it quickly became clear that the mandatory fight wasn't going to happen anyway..so, i don't see today's news changing much on that front.
Cotto Vs Canelo is the kind of fight that doesn't need a belt attached to it. So, i'm still hyped for Saturday.
Cotto/Alvarez was never about Golovkin except to Golovkin fans. I want Alvarez to win because I think there is a better chance of him fighting Golovkin, but GGG plays no part at all in why I want to see this fight. It's a great f*cking fight.
Not even close. I don't know how you can be a boxing fan and be thinking about GGG right now.
That's like watching Mayweather/Pacquiao and worrying about if either guy will fight Keith Thurman next.
Cotto has been a disaster at promoting this fight:
1. How many times is he going to say "This is just another fight for me. Canelo is just another opponent" ??? Dumbest thing to say in the world when trying to build up excitement.
2. At least pretend that you will fight Golovkin if you win. At least Freddie has done that a little bit.
3. The WBC obviously did not want to take the belt from Cotto...they would gladly accept his sanctioning fee money as they have many times before. But Cotto's team really dropped the ball. Now Cotto is looking like he is scared when all they really had to do is say they will negotiate with Golovkin should they win.
And Canelo has been boring too. There should be some Mexico/PR hardcore sh*t talking going on...but there has been none.
I will still be watching the fight, most likely at a friends house. But I, along with everyone here, am a boxing fan. The lack of excitement, promises of drama, trash talking could harm this fight when it comes to PPV buys in a market that is already starting to reject the ppv model.
I realized long ago that we pay for boxing on a fight to fight basis. The wise course of action is to pay for a match because you approve of the it.
The foolish thing to do is to pay for a so and so match because you expect the winning participant to make fight you want next.
You don't pay fighters in advance. There's no way to obligate them to fight your desired opponent.
I can agree with this because there are times when I buy a fight because its going to be a competitive match up than there are times where I buy because of what can come next, and than there are times where I buy a fight just as an excuse to drink with the homies, sadly this fight has gone from having all 3 qualities I mentioned to just having the last...
i have a few PR friends and I asked them if their excited for the fight they seemed like they didn't really care I was kind of surprised
Could be them fearing that Canelo is going to smoke Cotto out, I wouldn't be too excited knowing my countryman is going to get rattled about the ring but they'd be wrong to be so unconfident.
What's your proof to suggest he cheated in the Cotto fight, was he convicted and found guilty of cheating against Cotto wheres the proof?
The guy was caught red handed. Why do u think he'd feel the need to load his gloves against Mosley & not Cotto?
Cotto beat Mosley.
Margacheatos defence were that he didn't wrap his own hands & that he didn't notice anything wrong with them, therefore its not a leap to suggest he'd been fighting with loaded gloves for a while.
If you've boxed or even had your hands wrapped you notice these things
It'll only lose steam if Canelo comes in over the 155.
If he does Cotto should sit out & tell Canelo to fuk off
He's already had to contend with one Mexican cheater in his career

Nah this fights lost nothing, its still the most anticipated fight of this year besides May Vs Pac, I think with how bad the performance of both men in May 2nd was this fight will still be the fight fans are most hyped for.
Its got the makings of an absolute great fight plus Canelo can still win that title off Cotto, Cotto is stripped regardless win or loss but he only has himself to blame and that shouldn't take away the steam from this fight.
