Was there ever a time when Floyd fought someone at 1:1 odds?
Or, better yet, was he ever an "underdog" on the odds? I'm talking about both betting odds and reality.
Don't say Corrales-Mayweather because Mayweather was the slight favourite at the time. Diego Corrales +110. Floyd Mayweather Jr. -130
So, Mayweather has never ever been an "underdog" according to betting odds.
I would like to say this: I think Floyd is a great fighter, and is God gifted. But what would make him an ATG is if he fought someone as an "underdog" and beat him.
bro you don't know shyt about boxing...welcome to my ignore list :twak:
No surprise your a Mayweather fan taking the cowards way out just like him..:nana:
When did he decide to fight that fighter f the decade ? 5 yrs after his prime and don't give that Floyd is older crap because one he is a PED cheat who presented his body by cherry picking and retirements !
And you do know that Oscar offered Winky a fight yet he flat out turned it down and wanted more money or are you not aware of this ? There wasn't a deal in place like with Fraud !!
And I'm very are of the few garbage fights he had at 140 a who's who of bums but let me guess there was no one for him yo fight right outside of a **** shamba Mitchell or Gatti right ?
And with regards to Wright and Floyd it's clear you don't know what went down!
And all those belts they won mean very little in today's day and age just ask Broner who gets shots at titles after back to back losses but keep trying to elevate those titles like they were credible ! But we know he was so good for 20 yrs he couldn't find a worthy dance partner sure ,sure !

you left off fighter of the decade Pacquaio...is he still swimming in the pacific ocean??? You know ocean water is the new Epson salt
LOL....yea they were so weak that all four fighters won major titles in their careers
Winky Wright lol....DLH didn't fight Wright, why didn't he fight Wright? they both held titles at the same time at 154...Wright was a career junior middleweight, that fight was not gonna happen considering Floyd only had a few fights at 140 and up and Wright was moving up....Wrights last fight at 154 was in 2004 when Floyd was still at 140 dude, you sound silly....you need to learn more boxing and follow the sport instead of trolling
I know this sucks for you but everyone you say he ducked or avoided, he accomplished far more than they did

To beat Floyd you need to be a big cash cow which neither Castillo or Maidana were, If Pacquiao put on the performance Castillo/Maidana did make no doubt about it Floyd would have definitely lost.
Well put! We agree on that.
If PAC had done close to what those two did, he would have won.
I enjoyed watching Floyd deal with real adversity in the ring against Castillo & Maidana.
I especially enjoyed Floyd seeking help from Tony Weeks, but not getting what he wanted.
Thanks for your reply.
Best Regards,
Zaroku
Floyd being favourite is no big deal all his career. Jeff Lacy was favourite against Joe Calzaghe....so what? Whilst Floyd is only ever favourite against smaller guys like Pac coming off of Kos, or Miguel who was coming off of 2 kos to Marg and Pac, so why would Miguel be favourite against Floyd?
Take a risk. Fight a great fighter whos considered real dangerous is what its all about. That Floyd dont do. To be TBE you got to do extraordinary things, and Floyd being favourite in his fights isnt doing anything that is impressing anyone, just like Jeff Lacy being favourite didnt impress me and make me bow to Lacy.
Should have fought DLH, SSM, Cotto, Pac in their primes or Hatton at his best weight etc etc etc etc. Should have fought Sergio at 160....didnt. So fight GGG at 160 then. Wont!!!!! Because hes satisfied with what hes achieved. And so he should be, the average boxer would be. Just dont say your the GOAT. Because that you obviously didnt strive for
Floyd should fight Ward, Kovalev, Vitali, or Tyson Fury! Why not all at the same time??? This is what fools want to see, a completely unlevelled fighting field.
Pre-fight, many boxing pundits predicted Ployd/Floyd could be beaten by a cast of characters, De La Hoya, Cotto, Hatton, Corrales, Mosley, Manny, etc.. Etc...
The guy they thought was selling his title, Castillo probably actually beat Floyd in the first fight, but lost in the rematch. Maidana put them f-INGl thangs---laid non-healing hands on Floyd. Pounded him all over, and in secret places too!
But lost on points like Castillo.
Manny was easy "money"!
Floyd did more than enough to be a great. He is not TBE. Made more money... No doubt about it.

Opponents that had large followings that said before the fight Floyd would get beat , Oscar Canelo Cotto Manny , early on the same deal with Corrales Castillo Hernandez and even Gatti to an extent , the entire body of work is very impressive when he fought guys out of prime he was also out of prime or giving weight away to them .
People like to talk like Floyd never fought a challenge with a chance to lose , he fought many and always found a way to win , you dont achieve and accomplish what he has and not be an ATG , I dont buy the TBE deal at all but there is no doubt the guy is the best of his era and a genuine ATG .

Sure he was that much better that's why he backed out the Wright fight huh ..
He made matches look easy because he cherry picked the weakest opponents most recently Maidnada twice ,Berto Gurrero and Ortiz .. That's far from a murders row !

Diago was the favorite. And doesn't that justify his greatness even more? The fact that he was always expected to win shows how great he was. Winning as an underdog is great but to almost always be favorite tells you something. The guy was just too good for this generation.
Diego Corrales was favored and this fight was supposed to be a lightweight Leonard vs Hearns
Mayweather hasn'thad 1:1 type fights because he is that good and he has made so many so called even matches look easy once they happen
It started with Corrales and by the time he beat DLH in 2007, people knew better than to bet against him no matter how much they hate him

When there were possible legitimate challenges he found a way to back out of those fights
Martinez when he was on top called him out Floyd never answered
Winky Wright was already to go when he was atop the Jr MW divsion but for some reason Floyd backs out at the last minute
After he beat Oscar he could have either rematched him or taken on one of the ww's at the time, but what does he do he retires for two yrs only to back and fight a career feather weight ..Its laughable how this guy gets defended yet his most garbage opponents get elevated like Gatti ..20 yrs and the man could not get a meaningful fight my ass he wasn't that much greater than the rest like his fans led you to believe he carefully picked and chose his fights were he was the favorite he knew what he was doing he wasn't that much better he just chose not to fight anyone that would present him a legit challenge he just waited to collect names more than anything !
The point of this thread was to find out if Floyd ever fought someone who is as good as him. Someone who can challenge Floyd so we could figure out where to rate him.
Guys like Ali, SRL, SRR, have all been underdogs, and they came out victorious even against the odds. That's what makes them ATG's.
With Floyd, we have never seen him fight an opponent who was a favourite to win. The only guy who comes close is Coralles. That's it. Out of 50 fights, just one fight that's a close fight on paper.
DLH, Cotto, Mosley, Pacquiao - he fought them all when they were out of their primes.
And then you have folks like Gurrero, Berto, JMM (when he was the much smaller guy)- what was the point of fighting these clowns? These were wasteful fights for Floyd.
All I was trying to say was this: Floyd has never fought a man equal to him or better than him. It's true that Floyd is really good so he would be the obvious favourite in most fights, but there have been many occasions where he could have picked his opponents while they were still in their primes or opponents who could pose a threat to him (Khan, or GGG at 160)
The problem is you are not willing to point out the truth about why certain fights didn't happen. To blame Floyd for odh, Mosley, cotto and Manny fights happening late is to completely distort the truth.
Each of these men could've fought Floyd earlier but chose not to. The difference between Ali, srr, srl and floyd that you fail to point out- their top competitors never waited to fight them.
When srl waits 5 years to fight hagler you don't hold it against him. You give odh credit for the same thing you criticize Floyd for.
You are entitled to your own opinion but it would be nice if you reached it by considering everything, not forming it and then discounting facts that make it false.
Al Haymon and Floyd have consistently avoided the three best fighters since 2007:
The three best were avoided in 2007
1.Antonio Margarito at 147lbs
2.Paul Williams at 147lbs
3.Miguel Cotto at 147lbs

1.Manny Pacquiao at 147lbs
2.Paul Williams at 147-154lbs

NSB goes full retard when it comes to Floyd Mayweather. I mean look at this. You see posts like this daily and its hard to distinguish between troll posts and people who are so delusional that they believe their own BS.
And this guy could be the most knowledgeable boxing fan out there. But the topic of Floyd Mayweather turns Bert Sugar to Spoon23 for some reason.
How can you have Lara there for 4 years. He didn't beat Trout until 2013 and didn't fight Canelo until 2014
Erislandy Lara has been there since the beginning of July 2011, when he fought Paul Williams. Here is an example, from March 2012, of the best fighters Floyd could have fought 2011-2012:

You make a good point. What most people don't realize is that FM rarely fought a legitimate welterweight. Guerrero, Hatton, Maidana and Pacquiao were fighters who fought most of their careers at lighter weights. That leaves an overmatched Victor Ortiz an over the hill Shane Mosely and Zab Judah, a guy who lost every time he stepped up in class.
Its not Floyd's fault that he faced mediocre competition, but he shouldn't get cedit for it either
It's more like his competition was mediocre compared to him.
I detest Floyd and am the first to call him out on stuff. However, he is one of the best fighters ever, and to criticize him on these grounds is ridiculous. He's never been an underdog precisely because he's so great. He's fought most of the top guys throughout his career. For Floyd to be an underdog he'd have to fight someone much larger than himself. You don't have to beat someone you don't belong in the ring with to be one of the greatest.
