Stiverne returns on Nov 14th with a tune up against Derric Rossey as he positions himself to recapture the title he lost against an apparently not-so-hard hitting Wilder, as Stiverne reveals in this interview.
"The only thing that surprised me is that he was known to be this puncher but, to people who might not know, Deontay don't hit that hard. I fought Chris Areolla twice and Arreola got much more power than Deontay- way much more power than Deontay."

i dont' think wilder hits as hard as he used to with the right hand. he's got a lot of hardware in there from when he broke the thing.
boxers don't talk about their hands, but they're never the same once they've been broken. it's a hugely significant part of boxing. people who have never hit anything hard with a small glove on don't understand the kind of beating your hands take, nevermind the kind of pounding you sustain as a professional boxer.
still, he hits harder than arreola. stiverne stopped throwing against wilder, and kept his hands at home. part of that was the reach, but the punches were also very clearly effecting him.
also, wilder has a better left hook than he used to. he used to just wail away, and guys would fall unconscious when he landed.
Stiverne been sitting on his ass for months. Wilder knocks him out in a rematch.
In the interview he said he's been training since March but didn't plan to fight again until late in the year so I suppose we'll see if he's back on form next week.
IIRC wilder injured his hand early against stiverne
from what ive seen it looks more like wilders punches are sometimes deflected... one of the reasons it looks like he could suffer another injury. but when he does make contact at a good angle the opponents are walloped.
his last opponent took shot after shot without going down. either the guy had a cement chin or wilders power is hugely overrated. he really hasnt stopped any guys that were known to be durable. I think he has good power but a level below wlads

Yawn.
Tired of hearing guys always say this kind of ****. The guys that beat their ass/brutally knocked them out supposedly didn't have much power, but the guys that they handily defeated were the best/biggest punching opponents.
Paulie Maliganggi is the KING of this ****.
If he would have said this before Wilder's last fight, I would of told bermane to stfu. But wilder landed every punch he wanted against his last opponent and that dude didn't drop once so I not so sure.
wilder's power is overrated but stiverne is talking out his arse. its obvious hes just bitter over the loss and doesnt wanna give wilder any credit

See, this is why you never listen to what boxers have to say regarding their opponents' punching power. Wilder clearly hits way harder than Arreola and nearly knocked Stiverne out in the early rounds (it was ruled a slip but Stiverne was stumbling all over the place when he tried to get up, Tim Bradley style). He then went on to seriously rock him multiple times throughout the rest of the fight. Arreola on the other hand was unable to dent Stiverne in the slightest in two fights and eighteen rounds.
If Stiverne is telling the truth then it's probably because Arreola's punches weren't hard enough to numb Stiverne's senses so he could still feel the pain of their impact. With Jonty the punches were one step away from separating him from his senses. I doubt he remembers much of anything in that fight.
Oh, and Earnie Shavers is one of the most overrated punchers in history.
One of the sorest losers I've ever seen. Wilder knocked him down and they didn't count it. Don't remember Arreola doing that. The truth is, he came to the fight ready but was so thoroughly outclassed that he feels embarrassed. He feels the need to make excuses for it every interview and it's been old for a while. Maybe Wilder can KO him in a rematch and send this lame into irrelevance.
Rossy is a good fight for stiverne & i think he has a point about wilder's power. I do think he overlooked Wilder & thought there was no way he would lose. He never got in shape. Wilder is always in shape.
Call him Cleopatra. He's the Queen of Denial.
There might be an element of truth to what he's saying because to me he just didn't look like the same fighter against Wilder. He seemed a lot slower and more sluggish. Some might say Wilder was entirely responsible for that but to me it did seem as if Stiverne just wasn't physically 100% from the opening bell. Like he said in the interview, he lost control of his diet early on and so training camp became a fat camp which would explain some things.
His power hasn't been tested against anyone decent, so we don't really know for sure.
He's fought one good opponent and it went the distance. The rest of his opponents have been dreadful.
I reckon Joshua and Wlad hit a fair bit harder.
