Is it some thing should still be used?
Quite frankly, I think it should be held off for a while.
Over the last 10 years PPVs have been dominated by Floyd & Manny (with a few not involving them in between).
The only fights I can think of that would be PPV worthy are :
Pacquiao/Khan
Golovkin/Winner of Alvarez/Cotto
IMO, every thing else should be left to CBS, NBC, ESPN2, Spike, TruTV, Bounce, HBO & Showtime (and also the Spanish channels)
Boxing needs to go on a major revival if it wants to stay in the market. With Floyd retiring and the Floyd/Manny fight being the dud of the century the sport is going to have to make the best match-ups possible and who ever their golden egg(s) is/are need to stay healthy & active as fvck in the public eye
Biggest mistake being made is trying to ride the Mayweather and Pacquiao wave. Trying to replace them and expecting their Casual Fans to buy the next Boxing Star PPV's. That is not how boxing works, the next Boxing Star will have to find his own way and build up his own Brand. You're not going to keep the Pacquiao and Mayweather Casuals because they're only fans of those fighters and not a fan of the Sport Of Boxing
I think Cotto vs Canelo should be the last PPV for awhile until some LEGIT new stars are built up and they actually have the interest of Casuals. UFC will kick Boxing Ass going into the next generation and them getting Jon Jones back will further wide the gap that they're building because unlike boxing, they know how to market and they have the younger demographic
