Can't recall the source, but Ward's deal to be on the Cotto-Canelo PPV as the co-feature (first of three fights owed to HBO) is apparently almost done and Murdock was being mentioned as the possible opponent (BoxRec shows that he was already targeting a late November fight on his own, so he's already in camp).
Height/reach seem to pattern Kovalev, a quick highlight video of Murdock on Youtube show him kind of fighting like Kovalev (trying to keep range, heavy straight shots, lunging in on the attack, etc), but the fight has the added caveat of Murdock being a bubble super middleweight/ light heavyweight.
Ward should just retire. No one cares anymore. Acting like he calls all the shots while trying to make a no-hope 168 pounder come up a weight class just to get destroyed + give himself an easy paycheck. Can't wait until the Krusher gets to him and we get a "Ward be like" thread
Why should he retire when hes got a 2m guarantee for mismatches so bad the commission has to step in
As much as I want to see Ward back in the ring, I'm sure as hell not co-signing a fight with Rodan The Dude from the A-Team for his next fight.
Fuck that.
A reliable poster on BoxRec says the Nevada Commission wouldn't approve Rohan Murdock as an opponent for Ward.
I tweeted it to Hougigo, who in turn tweeted to an Australian sports journalist who first broke the story. The journalist favorited a tweet from Hougigo when asked "is this true? Is Murdock out for the count?"
Props to the Nevada Commission for not allowing this ugly mismatch that could ruin an inexperienced kid's career.
Both parties have agreed but now the Nevada commission looks likely to block this fight. Ward wanted it at 175lbs (en route to Kovalev?).— Ben Damon (@ben_damon) October 22, 2015

rian @rian5ca
steveucnlive Murdock agreed to 172 and then Ward's team changed it to 175
That's hilarious but there's a reputable poster on boxrec saying Murdock is out, the Nevada commission nixed him
Have a feeling that Murdock will become a household name around here the same way Salka has.
His name is freaking Rohan Murdock. There are so many potential jokes in there my head is clogged with them.
According to boxrec he's the 3rd best Aussie Supermiddleweight so you know he's legit.
Speaking of which I wonder if they considered Blake Caparello. Not that he's a top guy but he has some recognisable names on his record, already fought Kovalev and was already in prep for the Dirrell fight that got cancelled.
But Ward is forcing him to fight at LHW. So he is totally unranked at that weight as he has never fought there. This is a joke and HBO should be ashamed of themselves for allowing it.

Whoever sanctioned an 85 year old media mogul to fight in a professional boxing match is a disgrace. I hope Rupert doesn't get killed. He only just recovered from the phone hacking scandal.
Well he'd probably best get a jog on ... if the reports are correct he'll only have one fight between the Nightmare from Nerang and Kovalev, and the talent gap between Murdock and the Krusher is, to put it mildly, immense.
I agree, Ward doesn't need another extended layoff between fights. Hoping Ward has finally found the motivation to fight on a consistent basis again.
Embarrassing to who? Ward's last fight was after a long lay off and wasn't at 175lbs. Although Ward's opponent has yet to be officially confirmed, this is still his first actual fight at LHW.
I'm sure Ward will step up the competition before he faces Kovalev.....something many of you claimed he would never do.

This is embarrassing though. Yunieski would be fine for the slot, nice suggestion HBO but its too much risk for p4p Ward climbing those 3lbs

All these haters be like ward aint gunna be fightin anybody thas any good he jus lookin for them tuneups. so what now lil g stans? wat yo punkasses gots to say bout this now huh? smh at these fools.
That's OK.
Andre won the Super 6 when Rohan was 19, he doesn't need to prove himself anymore.
His legacy is set, he's p4p no 1. Fvck the haters.
The only issue I have with this fight is Murdock's name.
I've always liked Gondor more than Rohan.
I like Rupert
Sounds about like the best guy that could be expected at this point.
Its really disappointing to see Ward, one of the best boxers out there, as having done nothing for 3 years that anyone can get excited about. Ward & his team really need to try to make something, anything, really anything at all interesting happen in his next fight to break that cycle. Move up, move down, catchweight, unify some belts, whatever they need to make happen needs to happen.
They had plenty of time to make something happen, some better fights to be made like the 2 Cubans but this is probably the caliber Ward was looking for. Remember they approached another Aussie, Zac Dunn, not long ago
