That Golovkin destroyed Canelo in sparring? I keep hearing things like,
"Oh GGG blew Canelo's head off."
"GGG laid Canelo out."
"GGG send Canelo to the hospital."
"GGG killed Canelo and then gave him CPR to revive him..."
Ok maybe the last one was a stretch... but you get my point. GGG fans have been clinging to this fantasy that really... lets face it... never really happened. And I'm not hating on GGG, I've been a fan of his pre N'Dam. Love the dude to death but come on...
I spoke to Doug Fischer personally shortly after they sparred and he was in awe of GGG but also said that Canelo held himself well and that both will become stars and he was right. Doug Fischer is one of the best out their IMO.
Able was right giggi beat the bejezuz out of Canelo
Clearly neither guy is Golovkin and Canelo doesn't get beaten up at any point so what are you talking about?

Here's the story for their sparring session.
Sounds like Canelo got rocked during the second round. Of course, this is sparring. Golovkin's not going to try to murder the kid and finish him off. He gives a good enough description that sounds like textbook Golovkin: crisp jab that lands whenever he wants it too. Sounds like GGG didn't throw it out as much as he could have (like against Lemieux).
Lets give Canelo the benefit of the doubt anyways. He was 21 years old then, and around 165-167~ish pounds. This was right before he fought Rhodes.
Although, it's not surprising. Stories tell that GGG dominated JCC jr. in sparring horribly, and the same scenario presented itself with Peter Quillin and Alfred Angulo.
Here is the link to the original article on the RING web site. The story is from May 2011, before anyone knew who GGG was outside of boxing circles as he had yet to fight in the US.
As we cannot post links from RING, I have used bit,ly to create the URL.

As much as I detest the long and winding drive up to Big Bear Lake, Calif., I knew I would eventually return to the mountain resort town sometime this year.
I’d been hearing too many stories about Gennady Golovkin, the undefeated WBA middleweight beltholder coached by Abel Sanchez at the veteran trainer‘s gym in Big Bear, to stay away.
When Sanchez told me last month that rising Mexican star Saul Alvarez would not only arrive to train at The Summit, his high altitude training center, in May but also spar with Golovkin, I knew my time to return had come.

well, considering Canelo was what? 21? still getting rocked by the likes of Cotto's brother, I don't see what's the big deal. He was facing GGG in his prime.
Anyway, Sanchez has always been a sparring warrior.
Canelo landing an uppercut on GGG... I can also post random pictures of the sparring session too. What's your point?

that photo is clearly photoshopped. you really think canelo would be able to land an uppercut against tbe ggg?
Looks like abel told giggi to go easy
Here’s what I recall from the six-round session I witnessed in Big Bear, Calif. (which I wrote about in a Gym Notes column): Alvarez was preparing for his first title defense against Ryan Rhodes and Golovkin, who I’d never seen in person, was getting ready for Kassim Ouma. Golovkin’s trainer, Abel Sanchez, wanted his middleweight to get some work with Canelo in order to experience the faster hands of a naturally smaller fighter. Golovkin was not supposed to give Canelo the “full treatment,” and it was clear from the sparring I saw that he was indeed holding back.
Still, Golovkin “holding back” was a lot for Canelo,
Canelo reaching lmao

It was a close sparring session and Canelo must've been 21? Lol. GGG was in his prime. I'd expect the bigger stronger GGG to get the better of Canelo. From what I read it was close but GGG edged it.
There's a Ring TV report by someone who watched them sparring. It sounded like Golovkin got the better of him in a fairly competitive session but definitely not destroyed him or anything like that.
Sparring stories get way too much attention anyway.
Yeah I think it was the one interview with Dougie Fischer. I believe he said along the lines of "It was pretty good, but I saw Canelo's leg stiffen up a bit." Or something like that, I can't remember, I have to see it again. But yeah that's hardly "destroying" someone...
