This guy seems to possess freakish ability to cut off the ring, seemingly has an iron chin, brilliant punch selection and blow guys out the water (maybe the competition is abit lackluster but still)
Which other fighters in history seem to possess his type of aura and ability?
The only 2 i can think of is Mike Tyson in his prime and Julio Caesar Chavez Sr.
P.S I am a Ward fan and think he can beat GGG but you cant deny that GGG is a great talent
Why would unifying against subpar opposition make him the real deal? Cotto and Canelo are good but Cotto is too small and isn't a full middleweight. Canelo will fight him and can definitely beat and end this hype job.
Cotto and Canelo are proven A/B class fighters though naturally smaller......Fights with Quillin, and Andy Lee would be good match ups of boxer punchers
the harder tests are at 168 but hey it would make his resume better unifying
He has a lot of talent
I haven't seen a fighter who accomplished his level of things get his level of hype
You'd think he'd be a lineal champion or unified with a dozen title defenses
He is a good fighter but the hype level is ridiculous for what he has done so far
Unify 160 and he is the real deal in my book......he is a good fighter but that shows me he is a great fighter

There hasn't been. I've never seen a 34 year old with a non-existent resume get the full backing of HBO Boxing in my lifetime.

Problem is, the critics are criticising him for trying to do just that. According to them..."He's too good for his weight class and should move up if he wants to prove himself".
If he fights and beats Lemieux and doesn't get any title holders by the end of next year, he should move up
He probably has a solid 3-4 years before he starts visibly declining...He is almost in his mid 30's....running short on time.

I am a fan of GGG. He is fun to watch. It remains to be seen if he is really the man as many say he is... myself included. I am being serious now, what elite guys have even called GGG out? I would consider Ward elite, but that is a rather large jump. Historically where guys like Hagler or Monzon moving up when they were in their prime? Maybe down the road... but I doubt it. Look at Hagler or Hopkins. Elite fighters were moving up to take a shot. Who will be the next to pull on some big boy trunks and step in with him?
Good fighter that hasnt fought a single elite guy yet , many times when that happens the bubble pops so we will wait and see how it goes , the thing I like about GGG as far as his potential goes is his outstanding amateur record says he will have top class boxing ability along with power , Id like to see him fight Ward that fight would show us where GGG is .
To your question there have been lots that started off knocking over everybody until the comp got to the top guys and some went on some didnt .
While i appreciate what you said im also looking at fighters with similiar skillset that have reached the top or just shy in terms of his switch hitting, cutting down the ring so well and punch selection (although i should have put that in the thread lol)
Trust me i was a GGG hater before until i looked into his skillset and the guy i think could possibly be the 160 version of JCC sr. But yes i agree and elite boxer on the level of ward will beat him in decent fashion i think.
At 168 id love to see him vs James Degale that will give a gauge i think how good he is.
Many of them!!
WE will see soon, or at least we hope to see, if he is a step above them or just hype like they were.
Hes old for fighting no one i will say that.
The difference being tito actually smashed some high quality guys. Golovkin has only fought mediocre champions, contenders and pretenders.
True but I don't think you can knock Golovkin for that
Canelo, cotto, sturm a few years ago, serg, quillen, froch, chavez jr, Jacobs.. None want to fight ggg
Tito had much more star power to make big fights happen. He was highlighted on chavez and tyson undercards for years, plus had the built in Rican fanbase.. Golovkin hasn't had those advantages, but I do think by 2016-17 he will be able to land the major fights
Golovkin is basically this era's tito trinidad..
He is gonna smash everyone till he runs into a hopkins (Ward)

Why shouldn't he be hyped? The guy is exactly what typical boxing fans want.

Yes he is fairly overhyped. He has talent I can see that but most overhyped fighter Ive seen in years
1. Hes good but good but its not freakishly great. You understand when you watch more knockout artists. They go through the exact thing on the come up. He reminds of prime Bob Foster. If you search him up they fight really similar hunt you down power till you drop strategy. But he was a light heavyweight
2. Sorry to sound so blunt but I dont get why you get the idea that he has an iron chin. I personally watched all of his pro fights and he has by far taken a small amount of punishment and all his pro fights except for a few exceptions. One fight in the beginning when he fought a tough undisputed fighter like him but he couldn't knock him out or when he fought a tough southpaw when he first hired Abel Sanchez that went the distance. Last is probably Curtis Stevens who didn't land nearly as nearly punches. If its because of his amateur record stop yourself. Most fighters who go through that many fights find ways to take less punishment even if they exchange like Lomanchenko or Rigondeaux
3. One thing thats sets people off is cutting off the ringvis suprisingly easy to do. It baffles me how many pros cant do it. Track your opponent with your lead footwork. If they try to circle out just take a step back and lstep to your right or left. Mid range is your opponents worst enemy since he can't fight with his bsck against the ropes yet he doesn't wanna run into my punches. Hes trapped. If they escape immediately return to the center and start again
No way. GGG is the best fighter I've evuh seen. Probably shouldn't be allowed to fight cause he's inevitably gonna kill someone. Ban GGG like a hardcore lib wants to ban guns
It's amazing how thick certain people on this forum are. Before Ortiz quit against Maidana, he was in a similar position; people were calling him a mini Mike Tyson, the next De La Hoya, and were mesmerised by his string of knockouts. He ran into a quality opponent and the hype ended.
Ergo what I said was correct. The history of boxing is littered with fighters who were able to run through lesser opponents. The fighters that stand out are those that do so against good opposition.
Ortiz was fighting lower caliber guys than golovkin when he was on that run. And if you can't tell the different level of skill between the two then you can't be helped. It's not even close.

Unifying 160 wouldn't prove anything. It's a weak ass division. GGG does have talent but he has to take his talents elsewhere, where they can actually be tested.
He's good because he makes his opponents look inferior. Give others the same
type of opponents and they'll look as if they battled King Kong.
The hate he gets is Broner level, which, incidentally, used to be hyped to the
max. He got clipped eventually by a mere Maidana, not Pacquiao or Thurman.
Broner also called out all the top fighters you can think of. He even called
out Khan, then Khan called his bluff and Broner answered by saying he will
fight him at 140.
