Interesting match up considering the trouble Algieri had put Amir Khan through and the "weaknesses" of Keith Thurman surfacing in recent bouts.
It seemed Tim Lane didnt exactly have the keys to victory to let Algieri out of his cage and under JDJ a supposedly different Chris came to fight.
Where the f*ck is Chris Algieri? After a very exciting performance against Amir Khan last summer, he seems to have fallen off the map? There's tons of great matchups with him against some of other top welters. Rios-Algieri, Bradley-Algieri, Thurman-Algieri? Yes, please
Thurman's weaknesses seem to be a fear of getting hit hard and not being able to take punishment. Since Algieri is a light puncher he is no threat to Thurman. Algieri is not too hard to knock down but he always gets up so far. I voted Thurman by UD because he is much better than Algieri and he can punch with both hands.
I also thought the same. His jab could spell huge problems adding in his ability to apply pressure which seems to be embedded into an effective gameplan conjured up by Jackson.
Then again there is Keith Thurmans boxing ability and footwork that could counter Algieri and more importantly he can hurt him badly neutralising any plans he has.
Yes, Thurman's power is a major issue in this one but I'm not sure how often he gets through to Algieir. We tend to forget just how big at the weight the guy is, so tall and rangy too. It's why Khan, a superior fighter to Thurman, struggled so much.
Thurman has a punchers chance but it's a step in the right direction for Thurman. He needs to start fighting some live bodies now.
VERY interesting now that I think about it, at least the uncaged version of Algieri that fought Khan. I believe Khan's experience and boxing pedigree edged Algieri but I'm not so sure Thurman has that same experience and pedigree to do the same.
HOWEVER, I'd rather see Thurman fight an ESTABLISHED fighter, you know what I mean. Enough of IF type fighters, it's time to see him against guys who you know will bring a guaranteed challenge.
Algieri wouldn't be able to outbox, outwork or KO Thurman. Picking the winner is easy, it's a question of which method Thurman wins by. Algieri has shown toughness, heart and a decent chin, so maybe he could go the distance.
Algieri likely beats Thurman based on size and activity.

Depends how Algieri fights. If he fights like he did against Khan, I think ref would stop it. If he fights like he did against Provodnikov and keeps moving, he might steal a decision (though I'd still favour Thurman by decision)
It wasn't a different Algieri against Khan. People just know that Khan has no real power so they aren't afraid to just walk him down, knowing that he buckles under pressure and can be knocked out.
It would be a much different fight against Thurman who has genuine knockout power. Thurman would win and probably by KO.
Why wouldn't they fight! PAC fought him! If Thurman knocks him out, PAC should fight Thurman.
I think Algieri has lost his gatekeeper ability so Thurmans chances of getting a Pac fight are kinda ruined in that path as for Chris hopefully he gets a shot at notable names at 147.
Actually a good match up. I like this because we can gauge what Thurman can do to Algeiri compare to what Pacquiao and Khan did. Ranking WW is hard because of the state of boxing right now. Having a common opponent will make it more easier.
