Isnt that too little for such a big fight?
If you go into camp already fit, without the need to use camp to get back on weight, why would a fighter need a longer camp than 6-8 weeks? Especially for an older fighter, with sparring sessions three time a week, there's no need to extend the punishment that you put your body through.
For example, Marcos Maidana is going to need a 8-week camp to simply get into shape, followed by another 10-12 week camp to get ready to fight.
No. 8 weeks is normal for an important fight. It's enough time to get in great shape if the boxer is in good shape and not fat when he enters training camp. Cotto has probably been working out since this fight was signed. This fight is important to him and he will be in the best shape possible. Too long in training camp can burn a fighter out physically and mentally. Roach probably told him 8 weeks was the right amount of hard training. I think Cotto will lose but he will be in great condition.
He doesn't seem the type that balloons up between fights too much so 8 weeks is ideal if he's in fairly decent shape already.
^^^^ This. I think he already was doing conditioning training as he looked in pretty good shape during the promotional tour. Canelo too
He had a 10 week camp for Geale why go down for a fight with Canelo?
Doesnt want to over train. I think he thinks that he lost the trout fight cuz of over training. Also when he fought geale he was inactive for a year, so makes sense for a longer camp.
