I am watching some early Cotto fights and this guy at 140-147 rehydrated to 160 at 154 i really doubt he only rehydrates to 160. This men must be in the 165-166 range. He is not as small as people make him out to be.
Diaz had Cotto training in Big Bear, than had him move camp to Florida very early for the fight. It rendered the high altitude training useless and made his stamina even worse. When you do high altitude training, you need the time your move to the fight at the right time. Too early and you lose the effects and can develop blood sludge as your body reacclimates to sea level.
:lol1: Is that why he lost to Trout?
Whats big bear have to do with it

Cotto is on a much healthier regimine these days, thanks to his new team. He stays in shape between fights now and seems to have a whole new outlook. His most recent photos from the press conferences, he looks to be in fighting shape.
He beat a Cotto trained by Pedro diaz who had him boxing from the outside against a boxer like trout plus he was burned out from fighting in big bear.
Whats big bear have to do with it
I re watched the Cotto-Geale fight and my memory was wrong. Cotto was not weighed on fight night so nobody knows what he weighed going into the ring against Geale. He may gain more weight between the weigh in and the fight than people think. Mayweather always kept his fight night weight a secret. Now Cotto is doing the same. Maybe Cotto and Canelo will be very close in weight when their fight starts.
so trout beat cotto at cotto's ideal weight.
look at the size, height, and reach difference. He used that to his advantage and boxed Cotto from the outside and did it well. Cotto tried to engage but Trout would work the jab and kept Cotto at bay for a majority of the fight. All in all Trout executed his game plain very well to get the job done.
People say Canelo will be too big and too strong but this Cotto is a big strong compact 154 pounder. I doubt the weight will be any different on fight night. There is a reason Cotto camp dont let people see his fight night weight anymore. He must be putting on a lot of weight and they want to fool people in to thinking he is small?I think they did show his fight night weight against Geale and it was under 160. I am going by memory so I could be mistaken. I think Canelo will have about 7 pounds on Cotto on fight night.
he's too big for 147, too small for 154
I still think if Cotto stayed at 147 he would have still been able to make the weight. He just hasn't had to make it in so long.I think he could probably make 147 and be ok but Cotto likes to eat well and who can blame him for that.
he's too big for 147, too small for 154I agree. His favorite weight is 150 and he tried to rematch Margarito at a catchweight of 150 but Margarito refused to go lower than 153.
He really isn't that small, I would wager he weights from 165 to 168. There have been smaller middleweights. He isn't that much smaller than GGG but compared to the bigger middleweights like Quillin, Lee and Jacobs he is pretty small.
He is a small middleweight surely, but he's filled in now as a JMW. Looked pretty good on the scale for Geale and was just shy of 154lbs. 5' 7'' is fine at 147 (though there are surely taller WWs), is on the short side at 154 and is quite short for 160. His 67'' reach doesn't help. He might arguably have the fastest hands and/or feet at MW, or at least I can't think of another MW fighter who is faster (including Canelo).
Even in the ring against Geale, Cotto didn't look like he was much more than 160lbs. But then, maybe the fact that Geale was in the territory of 180 made him look small.
Too small for 154? HMmmmmmm, no.
Cotto in 154 pounds has a middle size for the división.
I'm pretty sure that the average junior middleweight is taller than 5'7.
Cotto is one of my favorite fighters but he's doing that I'm too small to face certain fighters schtick like Mayweather and Rigo. Although is a small middleweight he has an incredible speed advantage over most of them.
so trout beat cotto at cotto's ideal weight.
Trout is a decent or pretty good fighter. Cotto's best weight is probably 147 but seems like he can't make that anymore.
so trout beat cotto at cotto's ideal weight.
Cotto is human, sometimes humans have off nights, Hagler lost to Monroe and Duran lost Laing, it's how u come back and he did, now he's fighting a good fighter in Canelo, enjoy the show and stop hating
