to people who say one of the following:
-rigo beats loma @ 126
-rigo beats morales @ 122
-rigo beats barrera @ 122
-rigo beats hamed @ 122
-rigo beats junior jones @ 122
you are overrating rigo and im up for debate.
generic points:
-rigo's chin is weak as hell. dropped by
a) amagasa's off-balance "right jab". and this guy is someone who has NEVER fought at 122 in his career before. always at 126. DRAINED for this fight.
b) cordoba... a jab.....
-all this rigo hype began AFTER he beat donaire. and donaire's best weights were from flyweight to bantamweight.
-donaire is a counter puncher who relies heavily on his powerful left hook. arguably limited one dimensional boxer.
-rigo is too small
donaire win > pac win? :tragedy:
It was better then THAT version of Pac. I don't believe the shoulder excuse but from his fights before it was clear he was past his best.
No one says Rigondeaux would beat Morales. No one. Anyone who would even joke like that probably never saw Morales fight below lightweight.
Morales brutally KOs him. Brutally.
If you look at that ratio across their entire careers then it makes sense that Floyd would be better. Remember Rigondeaux didn't have that 10-20 fights against nobodies and contenders to build himself up, he was already challenging for the title in his 7th fight I think. It would be better to compare Floyd and Rigondeaux in their last 5 fights or so as they were both in championship fights then.
IMO Floyd is the better athlete but Rigondeaux the better pure boxer. I rate Rigondeaux' victory over Donaire better then Floyds over Pacquaio. Remember that time Rigondeaux was a huge underdog against the fighter of the year. Pacquaio in comparison was already KTFO a few fights ago and looked pathetic in his fights against Rios and Bradley 2. Their performance in the fight was similar in terms of domination, Donaire got a knockdown but that was more due to Rigoneaux being caught of balance, he got back up unfazed. Also it was far more impressive watching Rigondeaux moving around beautifully and skilfully picking apart the giant Donaire as opposed to Mayweather pottshotting a midget.
donaire win > pac win? :tragedy:
Mayweather still has the better plus/minus ratio when it comes to punches landed vs opponent punches landed. Rigo is sharp, and defensively sound, and I would say more graceful than Mayweather but Floyd is more well rounded, more solid than Rigo.
Who does the OP think is the better pure boxer? Floyd or Rigo?

Freddie roach is quick to criticize anyone that he perceives is on the other side of what he's doing. Sometimes the sh*t he talks is just absurd. He used to train rigo and rigo left him and Freddie could easily sh*t on him if he wants to. Instead he raves about his skill level and says he wishes rigo would come back to him. I think that says a lot.
However, I agree he has a weak chin.
It's hard to really assess him with his record because in reality no other champion in his weight division wants to fight him. The only challenge out there for him is at 126 a division where he's a midget. Rigo's size is really that of a superflyweight, bantam. However I do think he's a great defensive fighter, if any other 122 lb champion were as sure as you they would've taken his belts by now.
Roach praised Rigondeaux, any trainer he's worked with has praised him so to call him overrated is pretty ridiculous. I'd take Roaches opinion on a fighter over yours anyday.
“Rigondeaux's one of the best fighters I’ve ever trained technique-wise. He’s very skillful, he’s a great counterpuncher, and I think those two guys together would be a great fight (Donaire vs Rigondeaux). Working the mitts and stuff, when I’m trying to get shots in and show him his mistakes, seeing the openings and so forth, he’s the only fighter in the world that I’ve never hit once. I’ve never caught him. One time I was going to go to the body after a right hand and he stuck his elbow in there and bruised my arm for a month. I’ve never got to him in like six months of training,” declared Roach."
Rigondeaux has a lot more to accomplish for me to ever say anything like that. On top of not having the resume, I don't see anything that indicates he's one of the most skilled fighters either. I don't even say that about Andre Ward and Ward is more skilled.
agree, definitely needs to accomplish more. with his size though, i dont expect him going up.
hes one of the most skilled fighters to ever step in a ring, if ur saying his resume is overrated then maybe but whos overrating it. rigo is a once in a lifetime talent that we should be seeing more of but....

and btw, im a big lomachenko fan. but theres no way im biased for him.
i know hes not ready to be ranked in p4p like a lot of people are saying yet.
he lost to salido, and size was barely a factor (salido was quite sluggish cause of the weight too).
im a fan because hes out there to fight the best right away, not because i think hes p4p god or whatever.
and if you disagree that hes trying to fight the best right away, ok, we can agree to disagree. but lets not talk any further about lomachenko here.
and while all of you are talking about lomachenko,
do u guys really see rigo standing up to jhonny gonzalez, walters, or gary russel jr's power and size??
everyone's using donaire as an exmaple of rigo schooling a big guy, but donaire was best from flyweight to bantam, superbantam is stretching it already for him.
he was getting outboxed by darchinyan for christ sake lol.
:boxing::boxing:
Same footwork he used to curb stomp both of them throughout the rest of their fights too.
who's amagasa?
thats right, a featherweight who drained his ass off for a fight with rigo.
never once did he fight in 122.

you know theres something wrong when you have to say
"who is the better at pure boxing"
he's either good or bad at the sport. thats it.
and rigo is definitely good. but the point is, is he as good as most ppl claim him to be? lol.
hes one of the most skilled fighters to ever step in a ring, if ur saying his resume is overrated then maybe but whos overrating it. rigo is a once in a lifetime talent that we should be seeing more of but....
hows he one of the most skilled fighters to ever step in a ring??
coz he won 2 gold medals?
amateur and pro are almost 2 different sports.
15(10)-0-0 against......?
Don't need to read the whole thread to know it went like this.
:lol1: mentioning Amegasa so sad poor guy got disfigured for his luck of landing that punch even that Rigo couldn't believe landed that spaguetti was longer than he thought.
mentioning amagasa, whos amagasa? exactly. spaghetti longer than he thought? exactly. this spaghetti is dry as **** at 122. when did spaghetti man ever fight at 122 before??? his whole career was at 126.
I don't understand the point of this thread. You are basically saying Rigo is a badass vs the level of guys you are throwing out there in comparison to him (3 being HOF caliber guys), but your argument is that he isn't THAT badass that he's capable of winning 1 of 4 potential ATG fantasy matches lol.
The only thing really worth debating is the Loma fight & I myself as a Rigo & Loma fan feel that is a pretty even toss up type of fight. Rigo is clearly a small cat so him moving up to a higher weight could prove to be the deciding factor vs Loma legitly so I'm not exactly super passionate that Rigo is gonna mop the floor with Loma's ass, but then again I'm not super passionate that Loma is gonna mop the floor with Rigo's ass cuz I do still believe while smaller Rigo's boxing IQ is much larger than Loma's.
the point of this thread is:
1. rigo is good.
2. but rigo is not good enough to beat morales barrera etc.
3. ^people who disagree with 2, are overrating him.
4. who has he really beat at 122 to be ranked so high all time?

Just have a look through Rigondeaux stats if you need any reassurance on his skills. Look at his connect rate and how often his opponents connect. Think his stats are better then Mayweathers. This guy is fighting in a division higher than his natural weight and the guys there are ducking him, give the man some credit. He's been dropped a few times and yeah he does have a bit of a chin issue but that doesn't have anything to do with skills.
