noticed a thread earlier about past prime middleweights and people were arguing about who would win GGG or Hearns/Duran/Hagler
I'll make a poll but I don't want to forget any past greats with multiple voting so get some names going and tell me how each fight breaks down for either man,I'm sure theres some GGG fans out there that think he's the best middleweight ever aswell
:argue:
I know it was @ cruiser, but judging from Jirov/Toney...GGG would stand a great chance at beating Toney
In what way did Jirov fight like Golovkin ?, Jirov was awkward and a southpaw for one, his style wasn't like Golovkin at all really.
James Toney.
Toney would eat GGG alive although I think it'd still be fairly competitive.

Questions like this are crazy at this point in time. Based on what we've seen to date, there is no way to favor Golovkin against any of the great middleweights. There's a long list of guys who could beat him.
We've never seen anyone bring the best out of Golovkin, either, so this question isn't fair to anyone involved. Golovkin may have a level or two left to show us that blows away what we think of him now. Let's hold off on this topic until we see something worth bringing it up.
I agree with this.

This Eubank stuff is good... Eubank would box the ears of GGG and eat his punches like they were nothing
Benn's power would be unlike power GGG has ever faced ,I could see Benn getting walked down I suppose but I also see Benn landing a bomb and stopping GGG in a huge upset
infact Benn was most dangerous when trapped against the ropes
yep, every time Benn wobbled and goaded his opponents in with his hands down, you knew the other guy was in for hell, win or lose.
Man, just thinking about it, Benn v GGG would be a ferocious war, forget all this Lemming crap lol
anyways we just dont know nearly enough yet.
GGG is an amazing offensive guy, but we haven't seen if his power will put away fighters with proven iron jaws yet.
He is however hittable, and guys like hagler, robinson, toney, mcclellan, monzon etc will make you pay big time for being open on the way in. With shots that can KNOCK GUYS OUT.
Anybody can youtube some old fights that make the truth of what you're saying obvious.
Not saying he doesn't belong in that kinda' company. Just that it's pretty hard to make the case at this point due to his lack of that level opposition and so one must logically side with the established greats.
I dont even need to go back that fat.
Pavlik would have skull ****ed GGG. Even the Pavlik who stumbled around the bar throwing darts during training.
Hell even prime JCC Jr. Would have given GGG a hard time.
Lololol prime Jcc Jr, when was that? I get the post is a troll attempt, that's the funniest part
Hard to tell, since there is no blueprint to beat GGG, there wasnt a single fight that he didnt dominate or where he got hurt, so I assume he would give every MW a history a run for his money. Hagler vs GGG would have been huge, he would knock out Hearns who couldnt take GGGs punches and Duran who was small and not very good at MW, one of the hardest fights would have been prime Hopkins.
All the greats would be favored right now in my mind. He hasn't fought any real fights yet. It is not completely his fault, but until he fights Canelo, Cotto, Ward, Froch or someone who isn't cannon fodder, we won't know if he's legit or fake.
Ask this question in a 5 or so years, he could be Jeff Lacy or Tavoris Cloud be then.
Bernard Hopkins could neutralize GGG and rough him up on the inside while using his size and strength advantage.
The same Bernard who lost 2x to Jermain Taylor? Prime Nard had a tough fight first time around with Echols, even got stunned a few times. I could see Golovkin losing a decision or winning by decision as Hopkins resorts to an array of dirty tricks to survive.
Golovkin has long incorporated wrestling techniques into his training, we simply haven't seen him deal with a Hopkins type yet. We already know he'll hit you hard on the body, hips, and legs.

Certain to beat him, maybe a little too strong a word. But you would have to look no further than the best middleweights of all time to beat him.
Maybe Hagler though im not sure about that. Monzon or SRR. Im sure theyd take him the distance. BH maybe could beat him. Yes how could I forget the great RJJ, and McCallum and Toney. Chris
I find it funny people throwing Toney's name as if it was a no-brainer that he would've beaten GGG.
He could very well do it, but its not a given. Toney always had trouble against good pressure fighters. Just look at his fights against Dave Tiberi or Merqui Sosa. Both fighters way bellow GGG's level that gave Toney hell.
Nobody knows his level. He hasn't fought anyone of note. All hype.
Toney would have taken him to boxing school.
Golovkin would have beaten Martinez up. Sergio could move around big slow guys like Pavlik and Jr. He would not get past GGG. It's like people forget that even Kermit Citron had stretches where he was out boxing Martinez. He is not that hard to hit.
The guys who would trouble GGG are the ones that would make him fight going backwards. Pavlik and Jr. Would have pushed GGG backwards and kept coming forward with punches and pressure.
personally I think Martinez before the leg injuries would have beat GGG quite decisively
Martinez had some pop and he had a lot of Heart...he wasn't just gonna roll over like a lot of the guys GGG fought
Also Martinez had proven himself facing different styles and won...whether punchers(Pavlik), Swarmers(Paul Williams), boxer-punchers(Dzinzurik), pressure fighters with power(Jr was a monster size wise and strength wise at 160
I hate he got hurt before we could see it happen
Like I said, no certainty, GGG certainly hast he power to stop Benn or Martinez but Martinez, in his prime, beat bigger guys in Pavlik and Chavez and destroyed Williams. People forget just hot good, quick, sharp and hard hitting a prime Martinez was. I'd pick him 9/10 times to beat GGG.
Benn was just ferocious, a monster at times, a beast almost always. Resilient, brutal, so few fighters have fought with his anger. I'm not sure how GGG would have handled that, there hasn't been a middleweight like Benn in some 20 years or more. But he could be chin checked, he could be hurt and GGG has the power for that 50/50.
Eubank was just good, pure and simple. He could go to war or he could be scientific and boy could the man punch, he carried that power all the way up to cruiser, when past his prime by some years, he took the fight to Thompson, a much bigger man. I can't see a way round for GGG, Eubanks chin was so good, GGG doesn't even have a punchers chance.
