Getting knocked down a couple of times shouldnt disqualify one from this, nor should one fight. James Toney in particular had insanely good foot positioning.
i kindly disagreeeeeeee.
rigo is often slipping with his feet planted, and not exactly in position to punch..
james toney, i dunno, he always seemed more flat footed to me than anything lol
I don't think the foot placement is that important. I mean it is for the beginners, but there is always some unortodox fighters who are fighting on the elite level.
To explain myself, I want to give the example of trainers always telling young boxers not to cross their feet ever, but every elite pro does it whenever it is needed to close the distance, even Floyd did it often earlier in his career when he used to be a lot more agressive.
I don't think the foot placement is that important. I mean it is for the beginners, but there is always some unortodox fighters who are fighting on the elite level. If it works for them despite of an unortodox style there's no problem. For exemple take a look at Floyd: His legs are always very wide apart (and Rigo's, too) but it have it's purpose, it's giving his opponents a false sense of being at close distance from him meaning that they think they could reach him, PLUS his feet are always paralel and they arent pointed at his opponent in front of him, they are pointed at right from him, just like he was riding the skateboard.
Speaking of guys being always in place to unload, Louis, Tyson, Chavez, JMM and Chocolatito come to my mind.
Marquez, he's damn near always.in a position to counter. Canelo has very good foot placement as well. There are some very obvious ones that need no mentioning.
Ahhh...good one. Can't believe he hasn't been mentioned yet.
disagree with rigo and james toney.
if u look at rigo's getting knocked down, its all because of his flatfooted-bending-at-the-waist-defense that got him down
james toney vs rjj, nope.
ggg yesssss roman gonzalez yesssssss

Lomencheko shows good first placement.
can't believe i forgot loma. his footwork is mesmerising. i think i'd enjoy watching him even with his hands tied behind his back
Rigondeaux comes to mind.
He's always positioned to throw. Whether he is on the back foot or moving forward, he's always in perfect position.
James Toney used to be a master of it also, Mayweather similarly.

PBF/Benitez/Sweet Pea/JMM/James Toney just to name a few.

All great posts...i will also add GGG he has great foot placement

at the moment, gonzalez

If we are talking all time then Joe Louis
Front foot or back, if you made a mistake he was nearly always in position to land a KO shot
My vote goes to Roman Gonzalez as well. No matter what he does or how his opponent moves around the ring, his foot placement always has him in position to unload combinations.
Mayweather, Rigondeaux and Ward are the first that come to mind out of the current breed.
