Hey guys,
So what do you think? Tyson is younger, undefeated, has an unorthodox style, fights conventional and as a southpaw. I say this is def gonna be a test for Wlad!
Wlad hasnt looked great in his last few fights even considering his opponents. Jennings did ok, landed a few every now and then. Pulev, Leapai, Pianeta were all kos but was anyone really impressed? I know they were all mandatorys. Is age finally catching up to him, he def has slowed down, seen him breathing heavy too.
Also his jab jab grab style isn't going to be that effective with a fighter that actually has a height and reach advantage over him. Can Tyson Fury become the next Heavyweight champ.?
A unification with Fury and Deontay Wilder would be really interesting and would bring some much needed excitement to a lackluster division.
Its an interesting split here on the board. This happens a lot, these "eithor/or" situations. People seem to think either Vlad blows him away, or vice versa.
First off Fury cannot let this go to the judges. If he REALLY wants to win this he has to win big, but all Vlad has to do is use the same "shield of invincability" that Jone's had until Tarver got so mad he more or less said "fvk it!" and punched Jones as hard as he could in the face, ignoring Jone's feints, his speed, his ability to make one look like a fool.
Fury talks a good game but I intuite that he understands what was said above...he is acting like tarver before the Jones fight and his mentality is such that to Fury, boxing is a match of wills, who wants to punch the other guy in the face more. Fury has a good corner supporting him as well...his corner seems to instill in him the technical matters balancing out Fury's own simplistic view of the sport.
If Fury decides to do this...if he goes in and just goes at Vlad hammer and tongs I think he will do well. Again, he could be smacking Vlad around in a close fight and get tagged now and then and lose a decision so one realistic scenerio, is one where Vlad is obviously beat, but gets a decision. i will say this for Vlad, whom I otherwise think is overrated and easily beatable...he deserves at least some consideration vis a vis a gift decision, because unlike Lewis, for example, he has never had to rely on one. This is the most likely scenerio I see. I desperately want to join the Larry "Bronner will be the next best thing in boxing" bandwagon in laying this prediction out.
Beyond that, i don't see Vlad walking over Fury. Cunningham is a strong puncher, again look at history, the biggest punchers in the sport, including the heavyweight division, are not the biggest men. So the fact that he caught Fury is not a big deal to me.
Fury can exhaust Vlad and KO him but I don't see him risking enough to do this. Vlad can't counter punch really, but Fury will probably get tired as he is clutched coming in and will start to feel like he is getting shots in...which is probably why the first scenerio is most likely.
if I am Fury my BIGGEST consideration is to take the jab away from Vlad. either match it, use an ambush strategy of attacking, on't let Vlad set, or blitkreig Vlad when he throws it.
If I am Vlad, I want to get my jab going, tie up Fury on the inside and try to set up a big punch by backing off Fury, letting him come in to a spot and letting it rip. My win comes with the jab though, I have to be consistent and use it every time I can. Vlad could win the fight with his jab alone if he can establish it early, get set, and make Fury react to it.
Fury has more things he can do but they require risk...does he have the balls to risk getting Koed? We shall see.
Jennings rudimentary movement gave an older Klitschko fits. Its harder for him to establish his prodding jab, and if he cant do that then he struggles to land the straight right or the left hook. It was similar in the Haye fight, though Haye has such bad balance he could never turn his movement into decent punching opportunities. Everything comes off the jab for Wlad.
Fury when he is in shape and disciplined has pretty good movement on the outside and he wont be bullied on the inside either. He can also jab and punch on the move which a lot of WK's opponents cant do.
The key for him is staying disciplined for all 12 rounds, if he can do that he has a pretty good chance IMO.
Big if though.
Very true what you said about Wlad's jab, his whole style and arsenal is centered around is jab. Having said that, he def has slowed down last few years, granted his age and being a big guy with a big frame takes alot more out of you. Hence the ridiculous amounts of clinches. He holds wayyyyy to much and for the most part gets away with it. Heres where I think Tyson can capitalize he cant led Wlad hold, must control the pace/tempo of the fight. Also his jab needs to be on point, frustrate Wlad. Make the "old" man look old.
On a side note I agree that Fury def hasnt faced anyone of Wlads caliber yet, and being hit by a Klitschko is a whole different ball game! Its a tough task, gonna be interesting to see where he ranks at the top level.
Fury has many assets Wlad hasn't.
Height
Reach
Stamina
Endurance
Combos
Movement
Confidence
Higher work rate
Toughness
Inside ability
Adaptability
It's not as if Fury is in there contending with a Prime Ali, Tyson, Foreman or Lewis. He's just in there with a overly cautious stiff one dimensional, super chinny 40yr old.
I fancy his chances greatly.
Sure Tyson has a chance... but that chance is low lmao
His chin isn't great. He's a big lardass, overrated speed, and realistically he really isn't much bigger than Wlad.
I'd even put my money on Wilder knocking this oaf out
I don't want to take anything away from Fury because he is an excellent opponent, one of Wlad's best and entirely competent. It's just that his competition here is borderline invincible now.
So for me the reality is no. I don't think he has any chance to win. There is a slight chance he might win by decision or wear down for a KO I suppose but for relistic purposes that'd make Douglas have looked like a sure thing vs Mike Tyson!
The only guys who can really beat Wlad are hard punchers with iron chins who even then can only win by sheer flukes or by unconventional means (like sickness, injury etc).
They need to have sledgehammer fists and a titanium chin even before success an really even be considered.
And Fury possesses neither of those qualities!
Absolutely none whatsoever. He's a fun fighter and he's shown some improvement over time, but he's still the oaf that punched himself in the face. He's never faced anyone that can punch or a decent fighter that wasn't half his size.
Klitschko is going to be a very rude awakening.
I think Fury has a great chance of beating Wlad.
Wlad is pushing 40 and has never fought an opponent who is bigger than him and can move and box like Fury.
The same Fury that got put hard on his azz by a light hitting cruiser weight? Can't see him going 12 without eating something from Wlad he can't handle
I like Fury....He definitely brings some attributes to the table that could pose difficulties for Wlad...I just don't believe they are obstacles that Klitchko won't be able to overcome...
Fury must control distance with his jab and activity or he's cooked...He won't be able to bully Wlad like everyone else he's faced...
I believe Fury gives a valiant effort but loses a convincing UD...
People desperately WANT him to have a chance so they've convinced themselves that he isn't a giant oaf who has narrowly worked his way through a series of complete bums.. I like watching Tyson fight, and he's even shown improvement recently. But, no, he's not a legit threat. *
Hmm that pretty much sums up how I feel about it too
