Mainstream media and fans are going to fall in love with this guy. He is already massively popular in the UK. He is going to take the torch from Klitschko and rule the Heavyweight Division. Here are some videos to show you the future. It is also rumored that Kell Brook, Lee Selby and other Matchroom Boxing fighters are going to be advised by Al Haymon. With this promotional muscle behind him he is going to have no problem getting the casual fans.
Wtf, so all match room is going to be absorbed into al Haymon and pbc
Haymon does near all of his business in the United States; his competitive advantage seems to be the trust/confidence that he's picked up from US TV outlets for years of delivering on his word; Haymon's history of delivering content for Warner Brothers (The WB) and his trust/loyalty with Showtime/CBS, helping to basically undergird FNF for the last how many years, and the confidence that he was able to establish the Fox Sports through Schaefer (notice how GBL basically started it's slow death the moment that Schaefer was pushed out of that picture).
Outside of the US, Haymon's business is basically non-existent; Yvon Michel is Haymon's sole access point into the booming Montreal market which Michel controls, Chavez Jr makes his own call in Mexico (TV Azteca having seeming ties to HBO likely had more to do with the move to Televisa than anything), and Haymon has no real ties to any UK/Germany/Russia/EU promoters (though Box Nation does purchase a ton of US shows to fill out their TV programming).
The move by Matchroon Sport is a lot like the move that GYM made; Matchroom still gets sole promoting rights to their home region, but now Hearn has a massive conduit to getting his fighters extra exposure in the United States whenever viable (via events abroad on PBC or simply having access to American TV vs Showtime).
In the end, Haymon gets access to Matchroom fighters who have moved beyond simply fighting at domestic/European level, with the chance of really setting up some fights that could draw world interest (Khan-Brook, Selby battling with the other two full titleholders with Haymon and the quality challengers with Haymon , the eventual build to a Wilder-Joshua showdown, James Degale being thrown in the mix, the eventual launch of Luke Campbell, etc).
everybody wins
that chin wont hold up long.
That's the only thing I'm unsure about with him, he clearly has talent but he hasn't been hit flush by a puncher yet, so it's hard to say at the moment, if he does have a suspect chin then that's a major disadvantage especially at HW, that's something we'll have to see sooner or later, for all we know he could take a shot well.
He's certainly marketable, if he can back up the hype he's receiving then I've no doubt he will be the next big star... He just needs to keep doing what he's doing at the moment, stay grounded and focus on bettering himself, if he continues to do that he definitely has the talent and the backing to get to the top.
It's funny that a prospect like Joshua is even being thought of as a potential opponent for a title holder even this early. I don't know whether that's a testament to how promising Joshua is or how crap Wilder is.
Not just Wilder. People are lining him up for Klitschko
Yeah its his personality. It just doesnt scream 'superstar' to me.
Definitely more of the quiet destroyer type. But I could see him in some huge money fights with Wilder and Fury. HW is getting fun again..
This. He hasn't shown anything yet, beating a washed up on a losing streak Johnson proves absolutely nothing. We don't know enough, at this point honestly I'd still favor Wilder over him.
What we do know about Joshua
- power
- can finish off washed up bums
- big heavyweight
What we don't know
- can he go 12 rounds?
- does he have a chin?
- is he actually Elite level?
I wish he was fighting Wach next, not Whyte.. oh well

If you watch his in-depth interviews, he has personality. He's obviously been media trained though so he usually remains calm.
He got really p1ssed off in one interview when Dillian Whyte's name was brought up. Guy who decked him and beat him in the amateurs. They are fighting in December - we might see Joshua's personality come out more when he's provoked.
aj has the chrisma of a gold fish, he cant be the next superstar, no way.
Yep, americans want personality in there athletes. Good or bad, doesn't matter, but a personality is a must to be a star here.
Tim duncan is one of the best players ever, but you'll never see anyone outside san antonio say he's there favorite player because he has 0 personality.
