I think out of desperation, people will target the fact Lemeiux was an in experienced champion.
Edit: No credit for taking on a raw punching World champion in a unification, yet they want him to fight Lara, a LMW who has 0 bouts at MW. When was the last time Mayweather not a favorite to win a fight? Does he not get full credit for his resume?
Note: Many of these will be Froch fans.
So far he has displayed by far more balls than Miguel Cotto or Sergio Martinez by actually taking the fight whereas Cotto just fights the left overs lol.
Lol martinez is a left over? Khan whole career has been left overs.
Mayweather, Pacquiao and the likes. When were they not favorite to win a bout? They're given credit for taking on guys similar to Lemeiux's stature or even less i.e. Guerrero-Mayweather.
because Floyd, pac and the likes has already proven they are ATGs before the age of 30. They beat ATG fighters and create multiple ATG moments since they were youngster.
For me personally since 2010 i dont give a crap whom flloyd or pac opponents are, just being able to see they perform are enough to give me an erection. the only fight i super excited about is the fight between them and that already done with Floyd on top and semen on my TV screen.
Is fine GGG can follow B-Hop route, fighting tomato cans in MW until some ATGs(oscar/Tito) willing to test him at the age 36/37. GGG will win everybody respect if that's happen, assuming GGG win the fight ofcourse.
That says more about what people think about Golovkin than anything else.
For me, this fight is better than recent PPV's like Pacquiao vs Agleiri, Pac vs Rios, Floyd vs Guerrero, Floyd vs Ortiz, which I had absolutely no doubt in my mind who the victor would be but I ordered anyways because I enjoy watching Pac & Floyd fight.
For me, Lemieux is a bigger risk to Golovkin than Algeiri was to Pac, or Guerrero was to Floyd because Lemieux actually has legit KO power. I don't care what the Vegas odds were in those fights no one was going to tell me Algeiri would beat Pac or Guerrero would beat Floyd.
That isn't to say I think this fight DESERVES to be on PPV. IMO this is high quality HBO championship boxing, but I do believe the amount of cash required to make this fight happen right now is the entire reason it's on PPV (HBO couldn't afford the purse, or didn't want to pay that much).
Was I dreaming when you said Guererro was the next big thing once upon a time?
But I agree, it's a solid fight.
I think it's Floyd-Ortiz, Floyd-Guererro level. IMO.
The fight was just signed recently. As time progresses we may see pundits picking Lemeiux all because they want to see GGG fail same way they do it with Floyd not because they actually think those guys have a chance against Mayweather. After all it would be an upset.
Call it power fading away, hand problems or not taking the initiative, but we know Floyd isn't stopping any of his opponents and vice versa (for most).
GGG is a monster and a very calculated one who has an Olympic pedigree and you can't even run away from the guy. This fight will end in KO whether it is David or Goliath.
Lemeiux is a good name to have on a resume especially coming in the fight as a young, raw punching World champion. So, will be winner of Lee-Sauders regardless of takes that. It is great a guy wants to clean the division.
It is funny how fighting Cotto the LMW masquerading as a MW would get GGG more credit. Then again he is a name.
No pundits will pick him. That I gurantee. Maybe, MAYBE 1 out of 20 or something. Maybe.
It might not be much of a risk given no one can touch him at 160. But is he not picking a top five-ish fighter in his division? Is he just never gonna get credit just cause he's better than the best his division can offer? Imo he's still gonna be a big favorite over Canelo, Cotto, Quillin, Lee or basically anyone, big name or not, if the fight is at 160lbs.
It's a good win IMO for sure and its a logical fight to have as he's a belt holder and like you said Top 5 fighter. You can't complain then hopefully fights the Canelo-Cotto winner.
I'm not discrediting the fight.
But it's a forgone conclusion whats going to happen and everyone knows it. Lemieux is a good fighter but let's not act like this is a fight where people are picking the upset, literally no one is.
Mayweather has been the favourite in every fight since Corrales but that's not the point.
When Mayweather fought Oscar, Mosley, Canelo, Pacquaio etc he was favoured to win but plenty of people, pundits also, predicted the upset.
Whereas literally no one is picking Lemieux, literally no one. No one is even picking him to last 12 rounds.

Lemeiux lost, but the flaw that was exposed has been ironed out.
Lemeiux basically has power which takes people out with one shot and poof. He was used to taking people out until he stepped up to Marco's level, which was a step up at the time for a young prospect. He burnt his energy trying extra hard for the KO. It was clear as day when all Rubio did was keep his hands up for the earlier rounds. As for him being stopped it was not even his chin, but the ear area messing up his equilibrium and add the fatigue, which prevented him to even keep his hands up. Same thing with Alcine, he saw a fading champion.
Problem was pacing himself, but as we've seen over the years David has learned to pace himself and personally I believe those losses aren't relevant to this fight in particular.
But of course those losses are the pre-made excuses if GGG wins.
I agree that Lemieux has looked pretty good lately so I hope he doesn't fight scared and lay down for GGG like the others.

Look, I'm not saying Lemieux is some awesome fighter. I watched the Rubio fight myself I saw what happened. Lemieux is a champion now though and has looked good recently. Perhaps Lemieux has improved since that loss against Rubio, or perhaps he's the exact same guy. Doesn't matter since he's a champ and this is a unification bout which on paper appears to be an entertaining fight. People like power punches so any time you put two in the same ring there usually is a bit of a buzz at the very least.
It's a solid fight but more importantly it's a unification bout and that's what we want to see here. It's so annoying when divisions have four champions.

.
Rubio Destroyed Lemieux and thats bad because I think Rubio is simply trash. With that said, I feel GGG needs to make a big statement in this fight and absolutely dominant Lemieux in his PPV debute.
You don't watch many PPV's do you? You never seen any Pinoy Pride or Latin Fury PPV's? They are usually always lopsided main events. There are usually dozens of PPV's every year in boxing, but only a few that are really mainstream (like Floyd, Pacquiao, Cotto & Canelo). Typically these PPV's are a way to make the fights that networks wont pay for, which I assume is a huge reason why Golovkin vs Lemieux is on (HBO didn't want to pay the big purse). Often times these types of PPV's are only set out to "break even", as they do small time numbers and basically it's a way to pay for all expenses involved.
In any event, Golovkin being a big favorite over Lemieux has more to do with how highly people think of Golovkin versus some kind of indication that this is a poor fight. There isn't a middleweight in the world that would be that large of a favorite over Lemieux right now (would Cotto be a favorite over Lemeiux? Quillin, Lee, Geale, Murray, Jacobs, N'dam etc.). This is a very solid middleweight showdown between two title holders in a much needed unification bout, in a fight that pretty much everyone agrees will be entertaining to watch.
Nope I only watch big PPV fights, people who have earned it. If you do great, you're a bigger boxing fan than I. Congrats.
There are no excuses.
Why are you acting like there's a large amount of people considering this a risk for Golovkin?
I have literally not seen a single person who hasn't picked him to win by KO.

When was the last time Mayweather NOT a favorite to win a fight? Don't you then talk about resumes and all. Some people are just that dominant.
GGG is attempting to clean out the division. WBO belt is being contested and seems like Canelo-Cotto (WBC) will be fighting soon. What's left? IBF and WBA to unify.
It is just that people really really want to see the guy lose. Add the fact the catch weight demand for Ward hasn't helped him win new fans.

No, I'm not lying. You need to bet 1400 on GGG to win 100. I can't think of a PPV fight with such lopsided odds aside from Tyson/Douglas. As stated even Floyd was thinking about giving that kind of mismatch for free and that fight is going to flop. At the end of the day, GGG is asking you to pay $50 in a fight he is favored to win 14-1.
Bovada has it 16:1 for GGG while Floyd is a 100:1 favorite to win. Floyd will be charging people $80 for a fight where he is 6 times more of a favorite than GGG is. Now that's scary. :boxing:
I'm a fan of boxing and I don't need to have a horse in every race. I asked for excuses and they're apparently pre-made "oh he was the favorite". GGG is a divisive character.
You stated Khan shouldn't get sh1t for Prescott when you were high on Khan. Then you're mocking the same loss. You know f.cked up because you were trying so hard to come off as this righteous boxing fan and been on damage control and to cut the convo short you keep claiming imaginary points.
Clowning? You're literally living through me over the last few weeks. Your existence on this forum, which let's be honest makes a good chunk of your life revolves around me, again, me. Actually, wait a sec, I guess you're right when you say you're clowning me, you are budget version of me. Box-Office Lite.
There are no excuses.

I don't think the matchmaker odds is a real good way to determine whether or not this is a compelling fight on PPV. The odds are more a testament to GGG's reputation than Lemiuex's inability.
Lemieux against Cotto or Canelo would be good PPVs, and the odds would be reasonably close. Does GGG being abnormally good make this less interesting? No, it makes it more interesting.
This is a PPV unification match between two all action fighters who happen to be p4p punchers, it will be stacked with a good undercard, and will be sold at reasonable price. Seriously, just be a boxing fan for a moment and enjoy instead of being a bitch.
