Tonight I've noticed both SI writer Chris Mannix and UCN Live's Steve Kim tweeting about a potential matchup between these two going down on October the 17th, potentially at MSG. Mannix in particular says that there are real talks ongoing, and the money is there to make it happen; it's just a matter of Lemieux himself saying he wants to take the fight.
Can you imagine this and Cotto/Canelo in the span of a month? And the fact that Klitschko/Fury, Lomachenko/Rigondeaux (maybe), Matthysse/Postol etc. are all within a relatively short space of time? Seems like the last half of the year might be enough to wash this awful PBC taste out of our mouths.
If you see all of these fights (we will be lucky to see two of them), you should thank the PBC for forcing HBO to step up its game.
HBO has classic fights under its banner. You can't name one from PBC.
Funny how that wasn't the sale's pitch when Postol was in line to fight Danny 'Swift' Garcia.
Yea, it was more "Danny stop ducking your mandatory and fight Postol."
People wanted that fight and want this one.
HBO nuthuggers are funny. Matthysse-Postol wets their pants. That fight is meaningless.
Thats not a bad fight
An upset is certainly possible in that one
How so? an undefeated top 10 boxer fighting the #1 boxer for a world title on neutral ground.
There are more meaningful fights in the division to be made, but I don't think you can argue it's meaningless.

You should be thankful for HBO who have Pacquaio, Klitschko, Golovkin, Canelo, Kovalev, Cotto, Roman, Crawford, Fury, Matthysse, Ward (potentially), Walters, Lomochenko, Lemieux.
PBC has Mayweather (for 1 fight), Thurman, Garcia, Lara, Stevenson, Khan, Porter, Quillen, Wilder, etc.
Besides Mayweather and Khan, which fighters for PBC are stars? Wilder may have potential but i see him getting KTFO against real competition. Thurman can be a star but it's clear when you compare lists of fighters HBO has the real stars.
How many of the names on HBO's slate are still bankable by the end of 2016? Pacquiao is on his way out, as it Cotto and Klitschko isn't all that far behind them. (Golovkin being 35 by that point should also raise some looks)
PBC loses Mayweather but likely keeps everybody else, with fighters like Errol Spence Jr, Abner Mares, the Charlo brothers, Carl Frampton and Hearn's Brit contingent, and other young talent stepping into the void.
HBO is on the wrong side of the next talent flush, with the PBC model set to also clean up the top amateur talent coming out of the coming 2016 Olympics. Would hold off on the gloating for a bit.
PBC is still in its infancy so idk why people keep dick measuring rosters. HBO has been around since Ali was fighting. PBC has been around since Prince Patel has been fighting.
Of course HBO has the more impressive roster. I do think if PBC is able to learn, improve & grow (as HBO was able to do when they first got in the boxing business) & not go out of business through net losses (which I think are overblown, but who knows except PBC's accountant) or lawsuits in 2 or 3 years we can compare rosters & it'll be more competitive or PBC will have the upperhand. Bottom line for how long PBC has been around there roster is incredible & just going to get better from most indications.
Didn't they grab most of showtimes guys.... who in turn grabbed them when they were fighting on HBO?

Why not Ward?? he says he wants the fight NOW!!!
There are plenty of fighters Ward can fight: Degale, Dirrell's, Groves.
GGG has the opportunity to unify the division if he fights Lemieux next as he is already set to fight the winner of Cotto/Canelo
I believe Golden Boy is seriously thinking about putting Lemieux in with GGG in the fall. Would be at MSG on Oct 17th, possibly #boxing— Steve Kim (@steveucnlive) July 21, 2015
If Oscar would give Lemieux to GGG next, this means that GGG is ready to give a (long) "pass" to Canelo...

This would be a nice solid win over a young champion coming off of a good win himself and y'all will be posting up a storm about how he's a cab driver and how GGG ain't gettin any younger. :fing26:
Also might catch this if it's at MSG.
Lem v GGG is very likely, it gives GGG a easy unification, gives Cotto some time to make up his mind and gives GGG his most relevant opponent in a while.
When Mannix says there's enough money, I remember back to what Loeffler said they would make Golovkin/Lemieux a ppv fight. Not happy about this going to ppv, but maybe it'll be one of those cheaper $50 ones.
IDK if I'd count O'Kane out as a sure win for Johnson. I'm thinking this fight ends up in Belfast and there might end up being enough close rounds to give it to O'Kane.
Might only be PPV in Canada like Kovalev-Pascal?
Funny thing is it was said K2 were looking at MSG, but surely this is a Canadian bout?

LOL.... what happened to us... 50 dollars on the cheap end.
But it's because I think O'Kane is garbage and Johnson could definitely stuff/smother him to death
