I dont get why people care if someone has a champion belt or not in this day in age. Floyd Mayweather is the best WW right now, so he is the champion. Why do people care who the WBO champion is or that brook has a championship belt, if your not the best in the division, then you are not the champion. It lost its meaning. The best fighter in the division is champion, the rest are not. The belts mean nothing.
HA! Yea welcome to the world where these are the 'REAL' champions in each division
HW- Deontay Wilder
CW- Division doesn't exist in PBC
LHW- Adonis Stevenson
SMW- Badou Jack
MW-Peter Quillin
JMW- Erislandy Lara
WW-Floyd Mayweather
JWW- Adrien Broner
LW-Mickey Bey
JLW- Division doesn't exist in PBC
FW- Gary Russell
JFW- Leo Santa Cruz
BW- Tomoki Kameda
JBW- Division doesn't exist in PBC
FW-Division doesn't exist in PBC
SW-Division doesn't exist in PBC
Can't wait guys!
The answer to this question is not adding more belts.
Don't forget the DGW (Danny Garcia weight.)
Exactly...
This is why I can't wait till PBC makes and sanctions their own belts. Everyone will want a PBC belt because it'll be considered the "REAL" belt and champion in the division since his stable is so Deep.

I think the 4 belts have become increasingly irrelevant lately and everyday that goes by they lose their lustre. Most fans of the sport realize who the #1 guy in the divisions are, and it's not a coincidence that often the #1 guy has trouble finding suitable candidates to face in their weight ( GGG, Rigo, Ward ) with or without a belt.
But at the same time I don't mind having 4 legitimate belts. At least with 4 it gives more opprotunities to fighters to become World Champs.
I'd also be down with a PBC belt when it comes.
The belts are absolutely meaningless in boxing...
Which is why Floyd is making such a fuss over the WBO belt that may be taken from him and why Cotto will do anything he possibly can to make sure he doesn't have to vacate the WBC title. And their respective fans are so adamant that they should basically hold those titles until the end of time and never have to defend them.
Meaningless. Sure they are.
Floyd have made his own championship belt a long time ago. **** the sanctioning fees and other bull**** that comes with these corrupt, biased, for-profit sanctioning bodies.
Titles are won in the ring from other champions,of course as a GGG fan you know nothing about that since he has 3 pretend titles and has faced 0 world champions
And now we see the reason for the other thread you started. I would call you an idiot and an asshole but I'm sure that you are very accustomed to being called those names by now. It's difficult to win titles when those holding them are too cowardly to get in the ring to defend them. Or when they will vacate rather than fight or when they need multiple tune up fights before fighting you or when they will just fvcking retire instead of fighting you.
How about you ask Cotto why he won't abide by his mandatory defense? Ask Lemieux why he is not interested for at least another year? Not a spine between them.
You mean the belt that Floyd has not paid the sanctioning fees on and has not abided by WBO rules and vacated his titles in another weight division? The belt that WBO will be declaring vacant and hand to Bradley if Floyd has yet to take a decision this week? Floyd may be above the WBC's rules and the WBA's rules but at least one sanctioning body is standing firm and treating him like any other fighter and forcing him to make a decision. What a shame.

When a world series, superbowl, or stanley cup champion gets stripped for not paying fees you can compare them till then belts in boxing are irrelevant.
To show you, bradley just won the WBO belt. Same belt Floyd won in May and never lost.

Well then floyd should have no issue with fighting thurman instead of ducking him and getting spence to take out his laundry.
First berto. Then broner . Now spence.
The reason there is 4 belts and not 1 is because the champions in the past consistently refused to fight the next best.
If you don't fight the next best, what's your champion belt worth?
It's like Martinez was the champ and he steadfastly refused to fight Golovkin.
We knew who the champ was but if it wasn't for the WBA belt, Golovkin wouldn't have been a champ at all and the ducking Martinez would have been the only one with champion status.
If Martinez had cherrypicked better and there was only one belt he could still be sole champion today, that's the kind of situation having 4 belts avoids.
I will say though that 4 is probably too many, we only need 1 with credibility that forces it's champ to fight the next best every time but this is boxing, it's never happening.
Then once we figure out who the "champion" is, however they got the belt, then we get to fogure out if they are the interim, regular, super, emeritus, or maybe even the super-duper champion

Why do people still care about the World Series or the Superbowl or the Stanley Cup? Because in sports, we love to know who the best is. Because the athletes need to have a goal to work towards. Ask Cotto or Mayweather or Wlad or Golovkin or any other champion why they care about winning titles. Ask Quillin how he feels today about the title he gave up and the fact that he will probably never hold another again.

Is this a not so subtle attempt trying to justify Khan not fighting Brook?

Why do people care about branding?
You could get the same thing for cheaper with out the label.
End of the day its all about image, perceptions and that apparent prestige of own something other people want and desire.
