Why ask GGG to go up or down in weight class? If Cotto (who was a great fighter as a welterweight before the cement glove incident) doesn't want to fight GGG he should give up his middleweight title. Chavez Jr didn't want GGG even though his promoter did. I agree he's untested because no one wants to fight him.
But what had Golovkin done to deserve a huge chunk of the purse?
Lets see: stayed very active, destroyed 5 Ring top tenners in 2 years, excellent ratings and live gate, p4p rated himself, Ring readers Foty, got offered a "huge chunk" from biggest star above 154 for ppv. Shortly thereafter got #1 active Smw, p4p rated Froch to issue those infamous quotes, and sent him into retirement
Its the same thing you were explained dozens of times but it never sinks in, go figure. Both guys would want a good chunk but its not ppv so not feasible. Hell just Wards purse would be beyond Hbos budget. Notice he said Ggg was offered a big chunk from Chavez' people, 2.5m guarantee or just under 30%.

July 2014. Almost a full year before Ward fought Smith.

Golovkin's actually a central Asian fighter. Kazakh boxing program is pretty distinct from European. I believe HBO did a short segment about Vassily Jirov being trained by a guy who would lock him in a room with attack dogs.
BTW - Ward opened that cut on Paul Smith with a headbutt in like the 4th round (just like the Kolle fight).
ward should have half his purse taken away for holding butting elbowing etc. I wish smith had plaster in his gloves to counter mental ward
Hyped up for his power, while yet to fight a real champion..Will Golovkin be exposed at the highest level?
could broner end up being the next Einstein?? that is as wild as your post
Got something a little more recent than Jan 2014? Like maybe something from the time period since Jan 2015 when Ward has been able to get in the ring for a fight?
Trying to make a point with a video from a year and a half ago. Talk about grasping at straws.
If Triple Groupies does become the next Lacy, he will probably kill himself.
Going from hype to Lacy is the worst thing that could happen to GGG.
"Man with shyt resume, gets clinic'd in Vegas..Mass suicides throughout California, Texas and Arizona..."
Lol you're saying this like there's multiple A class opponents in the middleweight division...i know what you'll say "but he duckin' Ward doe."
Naw,actually i was just literally trolling
Why is Joey zags coming out of retirement to put on a clinic?
No but seriously I think ggg Has already shown more depth in his game so far even though He is yet to face any real elite opposition Lacy relied way too much on his left hook and it's decent speed He was crude and just went out there to take your head off like Mike Tyson but after Five or six rounds if he didn't get to you he was easy to box Kelly Pavlik Have the skills to whip Jeff Laceys ass Honestly though GGG Still has to beat an elite guy before I'm sold I think he is much better than Lacey he has good fundamentals controls distance well And has dynamite in both hands But there are A few guys out there especially at 168-175 i would favor over GGG But nobody at 160
On a sidenote GGG versus Lemieux would be a war!!
Now are playing fast and loose with the chronology. Loeffler said that GGG would want a large chunk of the purse just before Andre fought Smith, NOT back at the time you were referring to earlier.
GGG had become a star in his own right, THE most talked about boxer in the game right now and probably a bigger draw than Ward. Why should he not want a large chunk of the purse to move up and fight the dominant guy in a higher division. Would Ward move up and fight Kovalev for peanuts - just for the glory?
Anyway, back to the time we were discussing before you dicided to jump into your tardis, hoping nobody would notice - Ward wasn't fighting and wasn't able to fight - his shoulder, his promoter, whatever. The option for GGG to fight him wasn't there, and it isn't there right now. The tune-ups, remember?

No...that just wasn't the point of my argument but you're down to scoring minor points now so I'll let you have that one.
There were no negotiations because Golovkin's team took a sh1t on the fight before there could be any. Saying they needed it to be PPV and they wanted a large chunk of the purse. Andre Ward had earned his right and was, at the time, drawing higher ratings than Golovkin on HBO.
Again....I don't know what they had done or what they've even done now to feel so entitled.
Ward had just done huge ratings fighting Edwin Rodriguez. Golovkin had just KOed Stevens. It was there to be made if Team GGG were willing to yield a little. They weren't.
So back to the Lacy comparison - Lacy didn't make any such demands, he went over as an actual world champion to England to face Calzaghe after just 21 fights. Golovkin's people, even at 30+ years old weren't willing to risk their investment in him.

Honestly if you had to pick a guy that will get Jeff Lacy'd it has to be Danny Garcia~
Left hook guy that doesn't have that much else offensively and not that great defensively.
Golovkin has offensive variety
No, because he's a legit world champion, not some American hypejob.
He won a vacant interim title and then was promoted to full and super champion.
is demonstrating feelings of british inadequacy on bscene all you do?
Monaco isn't in Britain either.
Stop trying to rewrite history, GGG was up on the points and would have won a decision anyway.
Didn't look that way to me at all. The video was too blurry to actually see the score but I scored it for Bute up until the KO...BTW I'm not a GGG hater...I'm a big fan.
Is that when Ward demanded of Ggg to make the A sider Ward an offer lol. GGG career high was 400k, Ward had just made 2m for a tune-up. That's called feigning interest, esp if you say no to HBO while the other guy says yes
Ward didn't do huge ratings vs ERod, it was good but not 3m license fee good. Regardless it's not about the GGG purse, its mostly about Wards and who's willing to pay for it. Even Roc Nation doesn't wanna go there, they also feel it doesn't make financial sense as does Wards trainer. Really Ward needs to get his team on the same jpage, provided he really wants it
Nope it was when Golovkin's people said that Gennady would need a "huge chunk" of the purse and would need it to be on PPV to fund the fight. If they were confident about winning the fight, they take a small chunk and win.
Andre Ward earned the right to make those kinds of demands. GGG hadn't done sh1t and still hasn't. Like I said, it shocked me when I found out he was 33 years old. Time is running out for him to be any more remembered than Jeff Lacy is.
I wouldn't compare Lacy and GGG. Lacy didn't not have devastating power by any means, nor did he look all that intelligent in the ring.
GGG packs some intelligence with his power in the way he shifts and cuts the ring off to deliver his power punches. Lacy was just a mess and for the most part I found his fights boring.
GGG has been wrecking everyone in dominating ways in which Lacy was never known for, but he's also getting towards the tip of his prime years and needs to make moves soon. By the time GGG fights a big name, it won't be that he was exposed, but just...old.
Lacy on the other hand you can say was exposed because he was young and peaking when he faced Calzaghe and basically got destroyed.
