Tito vs Fernando was an excellent fight with plenty of "Big Drama Show" and a sensational ending.
Cotto has amazed recently, bringing his power up to 160 lbs. He seems to be reborn under Freddie Roach; it's like he's the new Pacquiao, fighting above his normal weight class and knocking fighters TFO.
I was sitting here watching the Oscar vs Vargas fight and couldn't help but think about how Cotto would've fared against a prime El Feroz.
What you all think?
What about.............
No...
Vargas 2000 beats up cotto 2015...
And vargas beats up Canelo as well....
Agreed BUT the jury is still out on Canelo. He is vastly improved and on the verge of being one of the best fighters in the sport. That is a 50/50 fight. Canelo and Vargas. I know for sure that Vargas would beat Cotto! I am done arguing with them on that one. Do you think that Cotto has a chance against a prime Tito? Because I don't. Trinidad was meaner than any fighter Cotto has ever fought. I doubt he ever faced that type of power before, either. He gets KO'ed in my opinion.
No......
What does Norris have to do with this? If Norris can't get to cotto his glass chin will be his biggest problem.
I just threw Norris in there because he was a career 154lb fighter. It's to show that Cotto is not a Middleweight or legit Jr Middleweight. He is stuck between a rock in a hard place, weight wise. He would have a serious problem taking that type of speed and power for 12 rounds. FACT. I also feel that David Reid would pound Cotto. And what you have to understand is, Cotto, Manny, and Ward are my three favorite active fighters. I call it like I see it. I am no Fanboy. There is no way Cotto beats a prime Vargas. There is definitely no way he beats Tito, De La Hoya, Lara, or GGG, either. He has gotten away with fighting OLD, less skilled guys the last 3 fights. His reign ends if he fights Canelo. Canelo is just about primed and ready to go to the next level. Cotto is that next level skill wise and he will KO Cotto. It'll be a great action fight for a few rounds, until Canelo's youth, size, power, and speed takes over. Canelo is also an A Level defender. Did you forget that? And gassing? When is the last time Canelo ran out of gas? He is not struggling to make weight anymore. His stamina is good. He will not run out of gas. What Canelo have you been watching, lately? The drained kid that Floyd fought? Because if you watched the Angulo, Lara, or Kirkland fights, you KNOW his stamina is no longer an issue.
As I stated in previous posts on this thread. Tito would KO Cotto. Cotto is too little, man. Vargas would KO Cotto because he is tougher, bigger, and stronger. Size does matter in this sport and nobody knows this better than Cotto. Cotto is not beating Tito and his place in Puerto Rican boxing history is not higher than Tito's. F what DR fat ass says. And let's get this straight. Tito lost to Hopkin's because Hopkin's was cheating on the scales for YEARS. He was a Light Heavy Weight disguised as a Middleweight. It's why Hopkin's beat Hoya as well. It was SIZE more than skill. When Tito fought Wright, he was drained and wasn't taking boxing serious anymore. He got up for Mayorga but not Wright. He blew up too much in between the Mayorga fight and the Wright fight. He lost to Wright but let's not get carried away with either one of those losses. You'll see what SIZE means as soon as Cotto fights a legit 154lber, like Lara or Canelo. If the Canelo fight happens, Cotto gets KO'ed. He is one of my favorite fighters but I'm not a Fanboy. I call it like I see it. He ain't beating Tito, De La Hoya, Vargas, or Canelo. Hell, you could throw in Terry Norris at 154 as well. I guess Cotto beats him, too? Ey? Get out of here, man.
What does Norris have to do with this? If Norris can't get to cotto his glass chin will be his biggest problem.
And??? Who KO's Mosley? He beat Mosley's ass! That's all that matters. Furthermore, Canelo is approaching his prime as we speak. He's tougher than Cotto. He WILL KO Cotto. Who do you think Cotto is, man? He's one of my favorites as well but I ain't stupid. I know that the Cotto I've been seeing isn't fighting PRIME opponents. Canelo is fast, strong, and tough. He will break Cotto down and show that size matters.
But he's incredibly flat footed and cotto's good at darting in and out with combinations. Plus he's gonna give it to Canelo's body like no one has before and if Saul still has gassing problems that could spell bad news.
vargas before Tito seemed to take the better punch and I think he had better power. plus he's the naturally bigger man. On the other side tho he's not as defensively aware as cotto or as good a boxer. Seems like a pick em fight. If Vargas can get to cotto early he might stop him though.
What?
Caneko couldn't KO a shot mosley but he is going to KO Cotto??? HAHAHA give me a break!

No. He would lose to Vargas. He is not as good as Trinidad and he can do the things Trinidad did. He will lose to Canelo by KO. Cotto is a good fighter but Trinidad was a great fighter. He ruined Vargas who was never as good after Trinidad as he was before Trinidad. I think Vargas would have defeated Oscar if he had fought him before he fought Trinidad. Vargas and Mayorga never took a punch as well after they fought Trinidad. I mean no disrespect to Cotto as he has many great wins. This just my opinion on how these fights would go. Nobody knows for sure until they fight.

What you all think?
Very interesting fight. That fight could have gone either way. Feroz was a big 154 pounder.
It all depends when Cotto fought him. If he fought Fernando pre-Tito then I'd take Fernando by close decision. After Tito, I'd take Cotto by KO.
Tito ruined Feroz.
Vargas is one of the most overrated, he shoulda gotten the L vs winky and he lost every time hr fought someone good
vargas was very good fighter. he fought in a solid era. wright, de la hoya, trinidad are hall of famers. winky was a great boxer with a great chin, and oscar and tito had genuinely great left hooks.
he was a capable boxer / stylist with good power. he was also gigantic at 154 lbs. he's several natural weight classes above cotto. vargas was a complete product in his early 20's. cotto was a JWW in his early 20's. for perspective, cotto is only three years younger than vargas. really. look them up.
if they were the same size, i'd take cotto. he's a better overall fighter. still size matters. vargas was a big dude who could bang, and had skills. he'd be much bigger, harder hitting.
the stules are different, but if trout can do it, vargas won't simply be outclassed.
Dig a little deeper.....

Wth?
Cotto knocks Vargas out faster than Tito did. It would be an entertaining fight, however. Tito was an extremely exciting, popular fighter, but Cotto is far better than Tito. It kind of makes you wish you could see these two fight, as well! Of course, Cotto would outbox Tito, but it'd be one heck of a fight. I don't mean to take anything away from Tito, though. Just my opinion. The one thing Tito will always have is his popularity, and that is very valuable. Not to mention he could knock people out cold!
What the hell? You don't honestly believe either of those statements, do you? If so, you are a Fanboy. You are only saying this because Cotto is still an active fighter. No way you know boxing with statements like this. Vargas took both Tito and Hoya punches for almost 12rounds. He had a good chin. What makes you think Cotto is a bigger puncher than Tito? Huh? How is Cotto a better fighter than Tito? Tito is a Legend and ATG. Cotto is just a HOF'mer. Do you understand this? So, wait. Cotto would defeat David Reid as well? Ey? Hahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think Cotto beats Vargas, but it's a competitive fight. Tito had crazy one-punch power and he absolutely brutalized Vargas. Cotto wouldn't do that and I don't think he'd stop him. I'd say Cotto by decision 8-4,9-3.
Listen good....
Listen. Some of these threads are not well thought out. Common sense would tell you WHY Tito, Hoya, and Wright were able to do what they did against Vargas. NATURAL SIZE!!!!!!!!!!! Cotto is NOT a Middleweight and is a small Jr Middleweight. Vargas was a BIG 154lber who fought at the weight his entire career/prime. Cotto would have a problem handling the power of Vargas, the size of Vargas. Vargas by KO. Tito would KO Cotto, Hoya KO's Cotto, and Canelo is going to do the same.
Agree. The confidence of the fighter who never been KOd shall not be overlooked. If we talk about pre-Tito Vargas, I'll give him an edge over Cotto. Albeit a slight one.
Well do it was pre-Margarito Cotto. Cotto did some serius exchanges with Mosley
this is actually a good question, Vargas like cotto, had excellent boxing ability and good timing. Im actually not sure how effective cottos body attack would be without vargas being able to time him on the way in because Vargas was very effective against guys who were smaller than him in that regard, Vargas reach and technical ability were excellent. Im actually quite puzzled as to who would win.
Pre-Tito Vargas -the guy that fought Winky and Quartey was determined and confident and willing to get in extended exchanges. I'd love to see that version of Vargas vs Cotto. Not sure who wins but it'd be entertaining. No doubt.
