How about a Super Six at Welterweight?
Entrants:
Kell Brook
Keith Thurman
Amir Khan
Danny Garcia
Shawn Porter
Errol Spence (if people feel he's too inexperienced he could be replaced by Algieri or even Broner.)
Mayweather is about to retire (not 100%), so why not pit the new generation of Welterweights against each other to crown a new king. All the fighters are in their mid to late 20's and the Super Six usually lasts about 2 years-2.5 (it'll be better if they let them have longer breaks in between fights). I know it won't happen, mainly due to money issues (since they're all PBC and I'm sure Brook wouldn't have a problem competing in it); but it would be interesting nonetheless. Who comes out on top?
Say tournament starts early next year.
First round: Brook vs Khan
Thurman vs Porter
Garcia vs Spence
Second round: Thurman vs Garcia
Khan vs Porter
Brook vs Spence
Third round: Garcia vs Brook
Porter vs Spence
Thurman vs Khan
I made the rounds quickly, just tried to make sure we didn't have rematches in the first three rounds (examples: Brook vs Porter II or Garcia vs Khan II). So this doesn't have to be the actual rounds, just an example.
I think most of these fighters will be more than happy to avoid each other and eventually some of these fights won't ever happen (some will take losses to lower leveled fighters or they will become washed up out of nowhere). So why not try to force/make this? (of course there will be several problems with starting it, but it's all for fun right now.)
This is also one of the few divisions where a tournament is possible. The only fighter they would have to get on board is Brook (since he is not PBC) and of course they will all have to agree to participate (which is uncertain).
Well anyway discuss.
not a hater, he isnt that important in my life, but you are clearly excluding fighters that cant fight for haymon, so lets call it like it is...
Who cares? Those fighters are not needed and I've already broke it down for you.
Spence is a ****ing beast man, I've been saying it for ages! how people don't see it baffles me. He is a great boxer, catches shots really well (good defence) and walks guys down and punishes them. He's a spiteful guy in there.
Alongside Joshua and Verdejo, definitely the top 3 prospects below 26 years of age.
Because looks can be deceiving when you really haven't fought top guys yet. the guy he just fought has a better resume than him and he was thrown in there at the last minute (he fought Porter). He does look good though.
I think people are underestimating Spence, yeah he would be the least experienced without a doubt. But the other guys only have like one or two good wins under their belt anyway. Actually, the two most experienced going in would be Khan and Garcia and they probably won't be the favorites to win the whole thing. Ward and Dirrell didn't have a lot of experience going into the Super Six and they did well for themselves (Ward did beat Miranda though). So it might be a mistake to put Spence in there, but I doubt Spence is going to want so sit out for Two years and fight lower level opponents in the meantime. Getting Bradley in would be difficult because it's PBC/Top Rank and I'm sure Top Rank will have options for Bradley anyway. Rios is also Top Rank.
Plus, the tournament could begin early next year, which would give Spence the rest of this year to get a decent name under his resume.
Ward and Dirrell were about the same age Spence is now and also had around the same amount of fights.

So you're a Haymon hater, now? Well Haymon has the best Welterweights in the World. Brook is the only one not with him and luckily for us he probably wouldn't have a problem fighting on PBC. Bradley is done, he's been struggling against guys like Chaves (a guy even a less experienced Thurman handled pretty comfortably, at least better than Bradley). Marquez is old and probably will retire. Rios is a bum and will get his ass beat against Brook, if it happens next. Who else is left? Ali? Golden Boy.
The cool thing about this tournament it could happen if they wanted to. But of course there will be people like you that want to see PBC and Haymon fail at all costs. If this somehow became a reality, there will be people that will still find a way to complain.

Finally a breakdown, nice! Maybe Spence should get Khan in one of the rounds for a confidence builder and a potential victory lol. A lot of people were hyped on Spence from over the weekend I'm surprised there isn't more votes for him.
If it was 2017, the results would've been a bit different for Spence, imo; beyond that, Spence is facing the toughest slate of fights in the tournament.
See him kinda "Carl Froching" the tournament though, using the tough fights to sharpen his ability, before coming back after the tournament and trouncing every other fighter at 147 (sans possibly Kell Brook, who I view as the class of the division after Floyd).
Where the hell is Devon Alexander and Victor Ortiz (not for that poll, but just in general?) They haven't been heard of since that December Showtime card from last year.
Andre Berto was on the same Spike card as Shawn Porter and Berto has yet to even have a match scheduled, while Porter just finished up a fight. I know Josesito Lopez in on the shelf from an injury from his fight with Berto.
Not as much of a long shot as you'd imagine; tournament only took 2.5 years because of injury delays. 1st round fights in the Spring/early summer, 2nd round fights by the fall, and the third round by the Winter. Semifinals as a doubleheader (Kentucky Derby weekend 2017 for the four highest point getters), and then the finals come the end of the summer/early fall.
Anyway, on to the proposed tournament - {3 for T/KO, 2 to win, 1 to draw}
Phase 1:
Brook stops Khan
Thurman beats Porter
Garcia edges by SD over Spence
Phase 2:
Garcia beats Thurman
Porter stops Khan
Brook edges Spence
Phase 3:
Brook beats Garcia
Spence beats Porter
Thurman stops Khan
Brook - 7 points
Thurman - 5 points
Garcia - 4 points
Porter - 3 points
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Spence - 2 points
Khan - 0 points
semifinal:
Brook vs Porter
Thurman vs Garcia
final:
Brook vs Thurman
{sidenote: that was a lot trickier than I initially thought}

so lets call it the Al Haymon WW tourney then...

People keep bringing up Bradley but he's with Top Rank, I tried to make it as real as possible. Most of the guys I've named are with PBC and Brook probably won't have a problem fighting on PBC, unlike someone like Bradley or Rios. Ali is even worse because he's Golden Boy. Maidana is about ready to retire and definitely won't commit to a tournament that will last about Two years. I've also already discussed the 8 man tournament and Spence in posts earlier. Like I said Spence doesn't have to be in it and could be replaced by Broner, Algieri or someone that can actually fight on PBC, but I seriously doubt Spence is going to want to sit out for two years waiting for the tournament to end.
But I guess, it was just a thread for fun but like I said I was trying to make it as real as I could.

Good points. A shame the industry is this way.
Isn't it a bit early for Spence? I mean, no disrespect to the guy, but would we be talking about him much if Mayweather wasn't trying to push his career along further? Shrug, well even if he was in the tournament I'm sure he's skilled enough to be a factor.
Shrug I say make it an even 8 - you can consider adding Bradley, Sadam Ali or even Maidana if he is still able and interested in fighting @ 147. This way you could do elimination instead of round robin.
Would love some sort of tournament, allow us to develop some new fighters in the soon to be post May/Pac field.
