Naz was the greatest featherweight of the last 20 years, cleaned out his era in the 90s....was a title holder 6 years and lineal several of those years
In 37 fights he fought 10 champs beat 9 of them and held every major title at his weight
He oft gets overlooked or forgotten but was one the most dominant featherweight champions of all time
He doesn't get the respect as Barrera, morales, PAC, and jmm...maybe because he is British n was brash
I think he is alongside them....Naz dominated his era in the 90s...MAB, Morales, JMM, and Pac had each other in the 2000's at 126 for a short time but Naz was the more dominant champion.
He deserves to be mentioned right up there with them...He dominated a very good era at 122-126...beat a prime kevin Kelly, Wilfredo Vazquez who will be in the HOF one day, Vuyuni Bungu was very good at the time, Manuel Medina went on to win versions of the featherweight title after his loss to hamed, McCullough was a tough cookie.
In a short amount of time he did a lot of good work
IMO he doesn't get the respect he deserves in America because he is a foreigner, talked trash, and was brash
IMO Naseem Hamed was the best featherweight since Salvador Sanchez
Id take a prime, motivated, hungry Naz of 1995-1998 to beat Azumah Nelson, Lil Red Lopez, Bobby Chacon, and a host of others who get far more mention and respect
We're talking about a guy who's best win is probably Kevin Kelley. A fight he got dropped 10 thousand times in.
He's not even a first ballot HOF'er.
Morales beat;
Pacquaio
Barrera
Zaragoza
Chavez
Ayala
Espadas Jr
McCullough
Jones
Kelley
Hernandez
4 weight World Champion
How can you possibly compare Naz's resume to that?
Even without Pacquaio and Barrera it's still arguably better let alone with those two prime or close to prime ATG's
Naseem was just your average fighter with a padded record full of careful cherry picks. When he stepped up to Barrera he got embarrassed, and had he fought Morales, the same thing would've happened, if not worse. Naseem belongs nowhere near Morales or Barrera and really shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence because he doesn't belong in the same conversation, specially one regarding their greatness.
Naseem was obviously not the same athletically gifted and dedicated as he was when he was younger and at lighter weights. He is as great as people believe in him. Sure it was kind of dodgy to just pretty much retire after the Barrera loss but in some cases it's good for boxing. Every dog has his day and Naseem went out when he knew his time was up. It's something more fighters should keep in mind rather then fighting on into their 40's trying to prove themselves just one more time.

Alongside? Maybe. Not above.

My man... just Morales win over an ATG like Pac sh*ts on anything Naz did. I mean come on lol MAB and Morales are higher ranked than him whatever u try to say. Everybody is telling u, what more do u need? Only ones agreeing with what ur saying are UK guys, biased opinion is not even the word...
And btw I still watch some Naz fight. He was incredible and so fun to watch fight.
Why do you rate them higher
One win or loss doesn't make or break a career
Its the body of work n they guys they fought overall were not better imo
I put Naz right up their with them and he was also a better, more dominant champion
Morales beat Manny Pacquaio and some good fighters
Barrera beat Naz and Morales and some good fighters
Naz cleaned out featherweight from 1995-2000....neither one of them dominated a weight class
Why do people act like MAB and Morales beat a bunch of hall of famers and great fighers...they didn't
they are not levels over him....if it wasn't for MAB win over Naz he would even be considered a great fighter

Naz put the featherweight division on the map, did more for the sport than any other and was only defeated by his own lack of motivation. of course he is a greater ATG.
people seem to forget that barrera was moving up in weight to fight naz so that probably is a reason he boxed more and its not like he was pot shot floyd in there. he was bobble heading naz with power shots.
Because he knew he'd be going to sleep if he fought the way he did against Morales.

Naz was very much the predator in that fight. He wanted to knock Barrera's head off. Marco boxed to a very careful gameplan and had clearly prepared very specifically for Naseem's style.
Yea hence the stylistic issue, but yea that is how it went.
OK you can call that Naz a lion (even though the food chain example is sound), but the more powerful lion lost out to the craftier more experienced lion thus could not pass on his genes.
Lions eat things like antelopes, so using a play on Naz's words instead of being the lion he was the prey in the Barrera fight.
That had to do with him being a spent force sure, but there were style issues at play also.
It wasn't meant to be taken that seriously but if you want to debate that fight we can.
