Why I think Cotto beats Canelo fairly handily:
Experience: Cotto has a huge experience advantage over Canelo. He's fought some of the best fighters out there: Mayweather, Pacquiao, Mosley, Clottey, Martinez. Cotto has faced most of the top guys over the last ten years if not all of them. The best name on Canelo's resume is Mayweather, in a fight in which he was absolutely schooled in.
Footwork: Canelo's feet are practically like cement. He cannot cut off a ring to save his life and moves like a mummy below the waist. Cotto knows how to get in and out of spots better than Canelo does, although he may not be as fluid as May or Pac he is leagues above Canelo.
Handspeed is comparable but I believe the overall speed advantage goes to Cotto. He has the superior reaction time, can get from place to place in a ring more quickly than Canelo.
Defense: Neither guy is a defensive wizard but while Cotto was able to make Floyd miss Canelo could not. Floyd hit Canelo far more often and more cleanly than he was able to hit Cotto. Cotto is better at blocking and parrying blows and better at avoiding punches.
I also believe their power is comparable. Neither guy has Ko'd an elite opponent.
After watching these two closely I can't believe there are so many people who believe Canelo can pull out the win.

I have to disagree my dude. I see Canelo winning.
Canelo did lose badly to Mayweather, but was it worse than Miguel's loss to Pacquiao? I don't believe either hold any weight, they are both different fighters at this point who have learned.
Miguel has better footwork and a better jab to go with his experience edge.
Canelo has faster hands, better counter timing and the size/power.
It's a real good fight, but I expect Canelo to do the business.
i think that canelo at this point has faster hands than cotto and definitely has more power.
cotto will have to summon his inner bhops to pull off this victory, experience is the key here, great fight either way.
Canelo has the boxing ability to hang with Cotto, the size to wear him down, and is sharp and quick with his counters. I think his punches will both Cotto a lot more than the other way around. Cotto's looking great against competition no where near Alvarez's level.
I think the fight is close either way. Canelo has improved a lot. But Cotto is fighting better than he has in years. They say Canelo is bigger, he is a robust guy, but their dimensions are rather similar. Height and reach wise.
I do believe Cotto has the better jab and I think their power is compatible. Cotto does move better, but Canelo has good combinations. The thing is, whoever lets the hands go is sure to get countered. If Cotto applies the body work things will get interesting.
Both have suspect gas tanks. Both have recently had impressive performances, and both have huge fanbases. It'll be Cotto's experience vs Canelo's youth. Solid even fight that won't be easy no matter who wins, if in fact there is a winner at all.
I still hold that Canelo can't cut of the ring. Angulo was able to trap Erislandy Lara and hurt him while Canelo never did.
You left out an important thing, the style factor.
You can't simply measure the two guys by "who did better against Mayweather". First off since the Maywether fight Canelo improved but secondly and more importantly Canelo is a natural counter puncher. Not a Mayweather type outboxer/counter puncher but a Marquez style fighting counter puncher who mostly needs his opponent to come at him and then he stands his ground and trade with him. But he does is well so he collects less punishment and he gives more. This style's cryptonite was and will be always the smart out boxer. Just look at JMM vs Mayweather, JMM vs Bradley or Danny Garcia vs Herrera. Many people waited from Canelo that with his size dvantage and power he will just walk through Mayweather but that's just not Canelo's style and he also didn't change it for the Mayweather fight (maybe he should have). Canelo has problems with cut the ring off but he improved because at the end of the day he still beat twoof the best movers in his weight class in Lara and Trout. Neither of them was an easy win or him but he managed to win. With Cotto probably he won't hve any problem with his opponent moves too much so Canelo can fight his favourite type of fight.
Cotto on the other hand hasn't got problem with pressuring and this is why Mayweather struggled him a little before figured him out.
So as I said all because the styles. Cotto's style actually is favourable to Canelo not like May's.
I'm nout sure who will win but I slightly pick my man Canelo.
I watched both fights and Lara was moving a lot more in the Canelo fight.
And in the end canelo still won.
I think the smartest thing for canelo to do with cotto is to not try to cut the ring off too aggressively, box with him, catch him coming in and out and try to stay relaxed and reserve energy. both are known for fading down the stretch but I think cotto is the worse of the two.
Cotto will win some rounds, it wont be a shutout but canelo should win comfortably
Geale was complete ****. I swear, people's memories are only as good as the last fight. Nobody seems to remember the Trout fight now or how cotto does with guys who can actually box.
Canelo will still outbox Cotto, easily. Also Cotto was burning up a ton of energy moving around like that with Geale. It was ok because Geale was completely ineffective, but if he does that **** with someone like Canelo, the second half of the fight is going to be painful for him.
Canelo doesnt really have to cut off the ring with cotto, cotto isnt going to be able to dart in and out of range with canelo and not get caught with counters, canelo has faster hands, he will land counters, and his defense is good.

I will be rooting for Canelo but I would be lying if I said I wasn't impressed by Cotto's ko. I am sure the catchweight took its toll on Geale but I honestly believe that the end result would have been the same, Geale wasn't landing much. Cotto's jab and timing could give Canelo fits, but hopefully Canelo understands what's on the line here and prepares accordingly, because if he loses this one he is done. Canelo has a lot of good attributes(speed, power, good combination punching) but I don't think he has put it all together yet, while Cotto has because of his experience.
I don't agree with you that Canelo can't cut off the ring, he can, it's just his feet are slow and he needs to be set to let his hands go. Whereas Cotto has quite fast feet.
I think whilst being dominated against Mayweather, Canelo showed he is a good counter puncher, he countered Floyd quite a few times and timed him coming in often but just couldn't catch him clean enough often enough to win rounds. That showed me good ability.
Both have good jabs, but you have to say Cotto's is better, Cotto has a very good Jab.
Power I'm going to go with Canelo, I would also say he puts punches together better also, both of those are arguable but the difference is like I said earlier that Canelo needs to be set unlike Cotto.
Canelo has the youth and size advantage, quite vast in both areas. He's also been fighting better oppostion recently and this will be the first youngster Cotto will have faced in a while.
Basically, they match up pretty damn well if you ask me.
I think Canelo wins, I think he will hurt him a few times in the fight. But Cotto obviously is a live dog.
I can't wait

That's what happens when your favourite fighter goes from "almost famous" to "irrelevant" faster than a juvenile can nut for the first time.
The knee braces in your avatar more than substantiates my position on the Martinez fight.
